I'm using dual screen.

I've also got an update: with kde 6.1.1, the unlock screen works, I don't need
to switch to a console, but still there are crashes.
Now apparently kmail also crashes, but I'm not sure if it is related.

I'm seeing the same problem.
Archlinux, kde 6.1.0, amd ryzen 9 5900X, radeon 7600X.
It seems to crash when the screensaver kicks in *and* the monitor shuts down.

I think I'm starting to see the same issue: it happens when the screen saver
kicks in *and* the screen(s) turns off. If I try to log back in, I'm greeted
with a black screen and the writing
"the screen locker is broken and unlocking is not possible anymore". Then there
are instructions about switching to a console and "manually" unlock the screen
with the "loginctl unlock-session" command.
Which works, so that is an inconvenience but not a show stopper.

Journalctl reports:

SUMMARY
This happens with Blender (and also telegram-desktop under certain
circumstances), under X11 and gnome-wayland when you minimize the just-opened
window it minimizes to make space, while on plasma Wayland it does not. This
might have to do with faulty clients (both Blender and Telegram use custom
toolkits).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Blender on Wayland session
2. Drag the window down

OBSERVED RESULT
The windows remains of a bigger size

EXPECTED RESULT
The window should be smaller

I get the same on my setup, but I don't even need to disable a monitor.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure multiple monitors
2. Add a panel with a task bar to each monitor
3. set task bar to only show tasks from current screen.

OBSERVED RESULT
The panel on the left most screen shows all tasks. Tasks are still shown on
other screens but can't be left clicked to activate the application or right
click for more options.

EXPECTED RESULT
Tasks are only shown when on that screen and can be clicked to activate.

So, to recap:
- existing user, upgraded from kde5 to kde6: keyboard stuck in US English using
wayland, works using X11
- new user, on wayland, without a restart: first mapping works immediately
after being configured, indicator in systray area not present, can't switch
using hotkeys (alt-meta-k in my case)
- new user, on wayland, after a plasma restart: everything works

It seems that you need to restart plasma to make that indicator works as

Another update: the very first keystroke sent to a new application is actually
correct: the character typed is the one corresponding to my selected mapping.
But only the first one; all subsequent characters are taken from the US layout.
Very very odd

[plasmashell] [Bug 482711] New: Switching keyboard mapping doesn't work

2024-03-07 Thread Simone Lazzaris
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482711

Bug ID: 482711
Summary: Switching keyboard mapping doesn't work
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.1
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Keyboard Layout
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sim...@omni.it
CC: butir...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I have a keyboard with an Italian layout, and I used to use Italian keyboard
mapping. I've upgraded to KDE6 and now I'm stuck with the English layout.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to system settings -> keyboard -> mappings
2. Enable keyboard mapping
3. Add any mapping (I've tried Italian and German)
4. Click on `apply`
5. Try to enter text using non-alphanumeric characters, and see that you're
still using English layout

Note that the OSD display shows the correct language if/when "switching" layout
using the meta/alt/k combo. The systray indicator, instead, always says "EN".

I also like the idea of multiple shortcuts.

My personal preference is that the defaults mute all input/outputs.

My rationale regarding muting all microphone is that I mainly mute the
microphone during online meetings so I want to be 100% sure to be muted. When I
have multiple microphones (plus virtual input sources like the noise cancelling
one) that can be associated to multiple applications (messed up ones like
Microsoft Teams) and considering the various quirkiness of bluetooth audio
devices, pipewire and so on I never trust that muting the default input is
actually muting the application I am using for the meeting.

My personal preference:
- text: normal because a hard link is a normal file at the end
- icon: little number mark

Regarding the text. I would exclude italic because it can mislead the user in
thinking it is a symlink. I would exclude semi-bold because the icon becomes
too flashy respect the others.

specifically mark a file whose hard-link number is greater than one. Possibly
we could add a small overlay number with the link count over the file icon.

SUMMARY
When a file is drag and dropped a menu opens with three options: move, copy and
symlink.
It would be nice to have a fourth option to hard-link a file.
I suggest to make this fourth option an opt-in feature that the user should
enable in dolphin settings to keep the drag and drop menu simple-by-default.

Hi, I installed Krita for desktop and my old files look normal. The issue is
with Krita on my Samsung Galaxy tablet S8 Ultra, SM-X900.

I tried an experiment:

1. Save a file in Krita as psd (I noticed that after saving, the file name does
not show in the header, even though it shows correctly in the recent files)
2. Open file in Clip Studio Paint and draw, save it as psd
3. Open the file in Krita

Please check the attached files, it's all white after opening in Krita.

Forgot to add the summary...

Basically if one configures different settings for the case of open/closed lid,
the specific configuration file for the open lid is overwritten by the one for
the closed lid.

[kwin] [Bug 460591] New: Add shortcut to simplify window tiling on the open side of desktop of multi monitor setup

2022-10-17 Thread Simone Gaiarin
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460591

Bug ID: 460591
Summary: Add shortcut to simplify window tiling on the open
side of desktop of multi monitor setup
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.5
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: simg...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The tiling operation of a window on the "open" side of the screen next to
another screen on a multi desktop configuration requires a pixel-precision. it
would be nice to add a shortcut that (e.g. `Ctrl`) that if hold down creates a
"virtual wall" that can be hit by the mouse to allow the same tiling behavior
of the "closed" sides of the screen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Configuration: two monitors side-by-side. Screen 1 is on the left, screen 2 on
the right.
1. Drag a window to screen 1 right side to tile it

OBSERVED RESULT
Mouse overshoot and ends up in screen 2 without showing the tiling preview

EXPECTED RESULT
Mouse hits the side of screen 1 and the tiling preview is shown

I agree that assigning multiple vat to a category would be useful. Moreover VAT
is a bit restrictive. For example on my income, I may want to track different
components besides VAT, for example:

Gross income
  VAT 5%
  Pension fund 2 %

SUMMARY
The lock screen gets confused by multi monitor setups and shows a black screen
with the mouse cursor if we change the monitors configuration while the
notebook is sleeping.

Note if I disable 'lock after wake from sleep', the problem disappears.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. With an external monitor connected through Notebook-DP > DP-HDMI adapter >
Monitor-HDMI, put the notebook to sleep (it locks the screen)
2. Disconnect the HDMI cable
3. Wake the notebook up

ALTERNATIVE STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. With an external monitor connected through Notebook-DP > DP-HDMI adapter >
Monitor-HDMI, put the notebook to sleep (it locks the screen)
2. Wake the notebook up (lock screen is visible on both screens)
3. Disconnected the HDMI cable

OBSERVED RESULT
Black screen with cursor on the notebook screen

EXPECTED RESULT
Lock screen where I can type the password should be visible
