Sorry guy to answer frankly without waiting, but your theories about FLOSS devs
in general & kdenlive in particular are getting on my nerves. There might be
some real things, but so many at the opposite of all our efforts, it's really
disappointing to read that.
All versions (expect 15.04 that we warned against) were usable for at least
basic work by many people, I'm not convinced that 16.04.3 is so special.
If you want to downgade, use your distribution package, and not our "amateur"
PPA.
I'm really demotivated to take on my family/sleep time to offer you the help
you ask so inefficiently.
Your *technical* problem seems to be 1) a user setup problem (try setting up a
new test user sometimes to have a blank config) 2) a distribution/packaging
problem.
Then there are organization problems (don't switch your work config while in an
urgent process, test on side config), etc.

I'll set up an oldstable repo hopefully this evening.
We don't ask you to debug our fancy bits because 16.8.1 has already been tested
quite intensively in beta path and since 16.8.0.
I haven't read your other posts (where?), did you explicit the usability
problems?

For composition, we use transitions rather than filters. Is it what you are
actually doing?
And for better precision we recommend to use Affine (or cairoblend) rather than

Many filters from FFmpeg (avfilters) are not yet properly handled by
MLT/Kdenlive.
You should pick the MLT equivalent.
>From 16.07.80, we have blacklisted the problematic effects ; a better solution
would be to create the XML description to handle them properly.

Every time I open a feed with a video inside, the feed list display gets
corrupted
(1st line truncated; if i reduce & reopen the window, a black rectangle appears
on the top left corner).
Then if I navigate in the list & come back to the one with video, I get the
crash.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

Hello,

I'm the happy assignee of this bug ;)

speed effect is not so trivial, especially with large GOP sources, and alpha
compositions can be quite slow either.
(check if it is also slow when running "melt yourproject.kdenlive")
For slow effects previewing at normal speed, I use a quick render profile to
export that zone.

I also see your post dates back from 15.04 times, improvements have been done
since then, in both Kdenlive (currently 15.12.2) and MLT (6.0.0), regarding
multithreading (and GPU offloading, but sometimes unstable).

Maybe you could also try reverting to the default settings by renaming your
~/.config/kdenliverc.

Yes, was during the UI review with the KDE Visual Design Group guys.
They didn't like the redundancy and misalignment between panes with/without
tabs, so we agreed it all should be in tabs. Tabs should be drag-able to allow
undocking, but don't simple/tedious it will be.

all crashes in QFontEngineFT::shouldUseDesignMetrics come from our titler
module in MLT that is not thread safe, and we haven't found a solution for
long.
as a workaround, you should try to reduce the number of processing threads in
Kdenlive settings/ Environment (and maybe same for encoding threads in render
dialog), or avoid using Kdenlive titles and rather prepare SVG/PNG from
graphics editors.

Sorry I can't reproduce this issue...
I guess it might be related to a Qt bug in 5.4.0 (5.5.0?) in which the file
dialogs where under certain conditions never showing => the workaround was then
to press "Escape" to dismiss the dialog and try again, several times until
success.
Can you confirm with updated Qt5/KF5 libs?

Allow building on ubuntu armhf (OpenGL!=OpenGLES)

applying:
kdenlive-15.08.3-define-gl-unpack-row-length-if-missing.patch
kdenlive-15.08.3-only-delete-opengl-3.2-core-functions-on-windows.patch

The two patches fix all serious warnings in the glwidget.cpp file
and make kdenlive-15.08.3 compile.

GL_UNPACK_ROW_LENGTH is part of OpenGL ES 3.2, but not of OpenGL ES 2.0.
This it is defined in different headers (gl3.h) in OpenGL ES 3.2 and as an
extension with _EXT suffix (gl2ext.h) to OpenGL ES 2.0.
I chose the route to fallback to the _EXT definition, in case the regular one
is unavailable.

The other patch fixes a warning about calling operator delete on
QOpenGLFunctions_3_2_Core (its class definition is incomplete).
It is only ever instantiated on Windows anyway,
so I took the liberty to also guard the deletion with Q_OS_WIN.

Volume is a basic component part of MLT.
Aren't you pointing to a wrong MLT installation through environment variable or
~/.config/kdenliverc (maybe try to rename that file to retry from scratch).

When you build MLT from source, do you add flag --enable-gpl and --enable-gpl3
?
Because volume filter is GPL, but by default MLT enables only LGPL modules.

freesound interim fix and clipart fix

 Fixes download of clip art.
 Fixes license parsing of clip art.
 Interim fix for search on freesound
 Freesound downloads high quality mp3 preview instead of the high quality file.
 This is because new freesound API needs you authenticate as user to get the
high quality.
 There is a way to do it but I have not implemented this yet.
 Default file extension to mp3 on all freesound disable the import button while
download is running -
 don't start two download jobs
 Fixes Auto play of previews in freesound.
 Preview button toggels on of the playing of the preview
 sound Preview button goes to "Stop" when playing preview and automatically
back to "preview" when preview finishes
 Warns if you are about to overwrite an imported file I note that duplicate
clip in bin checking is commented out in the code
 in ClipCreationDialog::createClipsCommand. And duplicate clips get created if
you choose overwrite.
 Confirms the file download has finished.
