For me it only happens when i plug in my second monitor via USB Type
C/Thunderbolt dockstation. When monitor is connected directly to the laptop
then there is no crashes.

[systemsettings] [Bug 472642] New: KDE applications crash when external monitor is connected via dockstation

2023-07-25 Thread Yurii
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472642

Bug ID: 472642
   Summary: KDE applications crash when external monitor is
connected via dockstation
Classification: Applications
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.27.6
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: yurii.zi...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: systemsettings (5.27.6)

Qt Version: 5.15.10
Frameworks Version: 5.107.0
Operating System: Linux 6.2.0-10018-tuxedo x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Distribution: TUXEDO OS 2
DrKonqi: 5.27.6 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
Every time i try to launch any of the KDE apps (system settings, konsole) when
external monitor is plugged in via Type C dockstation it crashes immediately.
When i unplug docking station everything is back to normal. I've tried it with
different docking stations from several manufacturers with the same result.
When i switch to Nvidia Prime performance mode the apps don't crash anymore but
the whole interface is laggy and it's probably a topic for another bug report.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

[systemsettings] [Bug 466730] System Setting Crash when Multi-Monitor Docking Station plugged in.

2023-07-14 Thread Yurii
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466730

--- Comment #11 from Yurii  ---
Hi everybody. I'm new here so i don't even know if such message is appropriate
to but i'll take the risk. Just wanted to ask if somebody taking a look at it
right now or planning to? I'm asking because this bug seems very serious and
critical IMHO. It basically makes my docking station a useless brick i can't
neither work with nor return. There is a workaround for this issue, by the way:
enabling Nvidia Prime Performance mode helps, but since Nvidia drivers are bad
it makes my whole system very laggy.

I'm sorry for wasting your time. This is some heisenbug, it happened about a
week ago with 3.4.5 and yesterday with 3.4.6, but today it's gone. And nothing
from its dependency tree was updated from yesterday. I didn't touch any
environment variables either, and brew cleans them out before every build in
sandbox anyway.

Anyway, here is brew gist-log for the successful build, if you're interested

Regression was introduced by commit 5b270191 [0], which makes test to use new
KWindowSystem's KX11Extras class [1] that is obviously shipped only on
platforms with X11.

Luckily this issue only affects test, but not framework itself, so in
Homebrew-KDE we just temporary disable test by a cmake option
"-DBUILD_TESTING=OFF".

The very first thing a new owner of Apple Silicon may want to do is to install
Rosetta 2 via: `softwareupdate --install-rosetta`. The anecdote of Rosetta 2
benchmarks is that some x86_64 binaries work even faster than natively on
previous Intel Macs. [1]

Fixed by disabling BUILD_QCH in kf5-kxmlgui and those removing its doxygen
build depenency, which seems to be the source of error. In this commit:

--- Comment #9 from Yurii Kolesnykov  ---
I reopened this ticket since it keeps being submitted. I have no idea why some
users observe this issue, I can't reproduce it on either Intel or Apple Silicon
Mac.

Error message is:

libc++abi: terminating with uncaught exception of type std::bad_alloc:
std::bad_alloc
/bin/sh: line 1: 55767 Abort trap: 6   /usr/local/bin/doxygen
/tmp/kf5-kxmlgui-20211104-55601-1psrc3e/kxmlgui-5.87.0/build/src/KF5XmlGui_ECMQchDoxygen.config

According to std::bad_alloc reference[1] there is some fail while allocating
storage.

--- Comment #7 from Yurii Kolesnykov  ---
Actually, the same problem was already reported recently. My guess was that
according to std::bad_alloc reference user has low space in /tmp, which is used
to build Homebrew packages. But, the second report in a row for the same
package is a sign that something broke upstream. We haven't any changes in this
formula except usual version bumps from March.

[plasmashell] [Bug 416739] Panel disappears from time to time and after a while re-appears

2020-11-09 Thread Yurii-Stefan Zhydetskyi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416739

Yurii-Stefan Zhydetskyi  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||zhidets...@gmail.com

--- Comment #45 from Yurii-Stefan Zhydetskyi  ---
I have the same problem and here are what I have found.

Operating System: KDE neon 5.20
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0
Qt Version: 5.15.0
Kernel Version: 5.4.0-52-generic
OS Type: 64-bit

I have a laptop and two external screens plugged via a docking station.
Laptop screen I always keep closed and disabled.

Here is what I have in the plasmashellrc file in the [ScreenConnectors]
section, just after installing the system:
0=VGA-1 <-- external screen that Plasma sets as a primary screen
1=eDP-1 <-- laptop's screen
2=HDMI-3<-- external screen

1) I added the default panel to the second screen, rebooted the computer.
Everything works fine.

2) After I had disconnected the laptop from the docking station and had turned
it on, the plasmashellrc file was changed.
0=eDP-1
1=:0.0
2=VGA-1
3=HDMI-3

3) Had returned the laptop to the station.
0=VGA-1
1=eDP-1
2=:0.0
3=HDMI-3
Obviously that on this step I reproduce the defect: the panel on the second
screen disappeared.

4) Disconnected the laptop from the docking station again, turned it on and
connected TV via HDMI.
TV was added to the end of the list. So I got hope that the panel on my second
screen won't be broken again.
But after returning laptop to the docking station I got
0=VGA-1
1=eDP-1
2=:0.0
3=HDMI-1   <-- TV
4=HDMI-3   <-- external screen

I don't know why, but my second screen is always at the end of the list.

5) Now I won't be faced with the problem until I will have plugged to my
laptop some new screen

OTHER SIDE

There is a way to have the defect constantly.

Set as a primary screen not the screen that was by default assigned as primary.
After that VGA-1 and eDP-1 starts to swapping places every time I reboot my
computer.
The behavior is so strange.
It lasts while I don't change the primary screen back, or enable the laptop
screen.

ABOUT MANUAL MODIFYING THE plasmashellrc FILE

1) You can remove from the list any screen, but it'll come back after you'll
have plugged it again.
2) You can change the order of the list and it'll work even after rebooting,
but it'll be returned after you'll have changed the list of the enabled
screens. (etc. Disconnect some screen, disconnect the laptop from the docking
station, connect TV via HDMI)
3) You can't remove from the list the screen that is available now. Plasma just
will restore the last working version of the file. The same will happen if you
move the primary screen from 0 position.

   Product: umbrello
   Version: Git
  Platform: Homebrew (macOS)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED

  Reporter: r...@yurikoles.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The latest release as well as master of umbrello tries to install qch files to
/qch. Full log is here [0], while most important part is:

CMake Error at cmake_install.cmake:49 (file):
  file cannot create directory: /qch. Maybe need administrative privileges.

FAILED: CMakeFiles/install.util
cd /tmp/umbrello-20200928-53058-pdjdvm/build &&
/usr/local/Cellar/cmake/3.18.3/bin/cmake -P cmake_install.cmake
ninja: build stopped: subcommand failed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to install umbrello via homebrew formula [1].

OBSERVED RESULT
Umbrello tries to write qch files to /qch, ignores cmake option to disable the
building of qch files (-DBUILD_QCH=OFF), ignores manual specification of qch
installation of qch files (-DQCHDIR=doc/qch -DQTQCHDIR=doc/qch).

EXPECTED RESULT
qch install location should work as in other KDE software stack.

[systemsettings] [Bug 425282] New: There is no way to stop full content index of home folder

2020-08-13 Thread Yurii Kolesnykov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425282

Bug ID: 425282
   Summary: There is no way to stop full content index of home
folder
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.19.4
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_baloo
  Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: r...@yurikoles.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Full content indexing of home folder keep returning to the settings, no matter
how many times I remove this specific folder settings. And there is no option
to disable full content indexing in a folder drop-down menu. I see only 2
options: full content indexing and disable.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open search settings in system settings.
2. See that your home folder has full content indexing.
3. Try to disable it via drop-down menu.
4. See that there is only two options: full content index and disable.
5. Remove this folder's settings by clicking red trash icon next to it.
6. Switch to some other settings section and back to search.

OBSERVED RESULT
Full indexing of home folder keeps returning.

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be at least some way to disable full content index of home folder.

2020-05-20 Thread Yurii Kolesnykov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421810

Bug ID: 421810
   Summary: kdenlive doesn't search for deps in /usr/local/bin
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 20.04.0
  Platform: Homebrew (macOS)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Installation
  Assignee: vpi...@kde.org
  Reporter: r...@yurikoles.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
kdenlive doesn't search for deps in /usr/local/bin

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install kdenlive via brew
2. Start it first time or re-run config wizard

OBSERVED RESULT
Config wizard doesn't see deps like melt or ffpmeg which are located in
`/usr/local/bin`

EXPECTED RESULT
`/usr/local/bin` is common Unix path for non-system packages, so it should be
picked.

2020-05-12 Thread Yurii Kolesnykov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421428

Bug ID: 421428
   Summary: Scrollbar is hidden in Dolphin under macOS until you
use arrow keys
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 20.04.0
  Platform: Homebrew (macOS)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: view-engine: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: r...@yurikoles.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

no scrolling normally
https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/4255480/81734876-7b203380-9494-11ea-90b6-35a49096fdf5.png

but if you go down with the arrow keys, the scrollbar appears and you can
scroll for about 1 second, until the scrollbar disappears again

https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/4255480/81735118-dce09d80-9494-11ea-8445-fb304e997a25.png

actually the only view layout which always works is the middle one

https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/4255480/81735736-c850d500-9495-11ea-9478-dad3e74065af.png

and if you switch to the middle layout, scroll there, and then switch back to
the initial layout or to the tree layout, the scrolling is again enabled for a
second, and then disappears again. Like you would have "scrolled" using keys.

It seems as soon as you somehow can activate the scrollbar in general, it works
again for all three views, and not only the middle one (but only very short for
a second or so)

EXPECTED RESULT

Observe scrollbar.

This is definitely a bug in CMake script, because brew uses sandbox to build
software.
