[kdenlive] [Bug 407778] Saved Project File Track Times Change Randomly Causing 'Invalid clip producer4 on track playlist at ...'

2019-05-21 Thread alcinos
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407778

Thank you very much with the in-depth exploration!

When you don't accept to create the profile, or switch to an existing profile,
it means that potentially the fps of the project and the fps of your video
samples don't match.
My theory, based on what you show, is that the fps conversion math (used for
example to compute the length of the clips in frames), will create small but
real rounding errors, and when you repeat that over and over the errors will
compound.

I'm a bit short on time right now but will definitely take a look soon, if
confirmed it would be a serious bug.

To be sure I reproduce exactly what you did, would you mind giving me the
default fps of your projects in kdenlive? It should be displayed in the title
of the app when you open a fresh kdenlive.

The difference you see is in the encoding of the groups, it doesn't matter for
the issue at hand.

Where is the media located? Is it on an external hard-drive for example? Is it
possible that you have a faulty disk that causes the file to be read with
errors?

The appimage should contain everything you need, I wound not worry about that
at this point.

So, if this simple test with a color producer works, we need to look further.

Can you try to reproduce the same test, replacing the color producer with one
video clip that you know for a fact it was getting flagged as "invalid clip" by
kdenlive?

Ok, let's try to get to the bottom of this.

First note: your Qt version (Qt: 5.9.5) is old, and it has known bug. This
means that you have to stick to the AppImage.

Now, using this appimage try this:
1. Create a new project
2. Go to Project -> add color clip, chose whatever color you want
3. It will add a color clip to the bin. Check whether you can visualize it
4. Add it on the timeline, resize it and move it a bit, and check if you can
preview the timeline
5. Save, close the program, then open again the project and see if you can
continue editing.

Disclaimer: I haven't looked deep into that yet.
I just want to point out that if showing a red producer with melt doesn't work
for you, there is a stream of things that may break, since your melt
installation seems broken. We need to make sure the simple things work before
attempting more complex ones.

Maybe you can try to build melt from source, and install it with sudo make
install (make sure to uninstall any previously installed version / package),
and report what happens when you try to output the red consumer.

Ah, there was an error in your bug report, it was indicating kdenlive 19.04 as
the version.

Please note that the speed management has been *completely* rewritten in 19.04,
thus I don't expect any bugs to carry over to the new version (it doesn't mean
that no new bugs appeared). We are aware that the speed effect was causing a
lots of issues in 18.x.

We are not going to fix the old version, so I encourage you to try in the new
version to see if it works better for you, and reopen a new issue if you
encounter issues.

If you have issues opening your old projects, feel free to open an issue about
that. A common source of bug is the GPU acceleration (Movit). Make sure it is
disabled in the preference, especially when you save your project in the old
version.

Hello,
The behavior you observe is intentional. Custom groups can be arbitrary, hence
it would not be sensible to apply the same trimming to all the objects of a
group simultaneously (in some cases it's not even possible, consider the case
where two consecutive clips are grouped)

If you mistakenly ungrouped audio and video from the same clip, you can right
click on the video clip and choose "split audio". Make sure there is room on
the audio track for the audio clip to be inserted.

I don't think it's the same as the windows bug, since the windows bug occurs
only on first startup, while what you describe seems to happen all the time?

It seems that the arch package has lead to some issues, it might just be the
cause. Maybe try reporting that to the packager? I'm running arch to develop
the application and don't have any such issues...

I'm not sure if there are debug symbols in the executable, but could you try to
get a gdb backtrace?

SUMMARY

It seems that it is impossible to use Heaptrack with asan linked. I get empty
stats when I try (0 allocations), and I assume this is because of Asan's
instrumentation of the alloc/dealloc primitives.

Is there any known workaround to this?

Thanks in advance

Currently, the best way to have a preview of the next version is to build it
yourself from git (branch "refactoring_timeline"). We are working to provide
some appImage builds but that's not available yet.

Be aware that this is still under heavy development, and important features
might still be missing.
Also note that the projects won't be backwards compatible. If you save in

Hi Roxane,

Double clic on the project monitor (make sure it is not the clip monitor)
should never trigger start playback.

If you have no effects or have disabled on-screen widgets, it should toggle
full-screen. If you do have a rotoscoping enabled for the current effect and
double clicking toggles full-screen, make sure that on-screen widgets are
enabled (square icon just on the right of the volume control icon, below the
project monitor)

Hi,

I am unable to reproduce on 17.08.
Try the following steps:
 - add rotoscoping effect to your clip
 - seek to a position in the middle of the clip (where you want to add keyframe
for example)
 - clic or double clic on the project monitor (not the clip monitor). That
should create a new anchor on the screen (in red)
 - clic several more times to create your shape
 - right clic to close the shape
 - In the effect panel, you may now add a keyframe with the + button

--- Comment #13 from alcinos <french.ebook.lo...@gmail.com> ---
For the Mlt problem, I've already opened an issue:
https://github.com/mltframework/mlt/issues/212

Your workaround seems good enough for now, but we must make sure that there is
no other way to trigger race conditions. The XML parsing seems a bit clanky
overall on MLT's side…
Anyway, I'd advocate for a non XML solution in the long run. One benefit is
speed, I experienced a decent speed-up with the temporary solution without XML

So apparently we can workaround this by avoiding the xml step (which seems to
be a good idea anyway). I'm pushing a proposed change to master, so that you
can review it and cherry-pick it to 16.12 if it looks good to you.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=377255

--- Comment #5 from alcinos <french.ebook.lo...@gmail.com> ---
Could it be a race condition related to the Profile object ?
It seems that there might be some side effects on the mlt_profile when creating
a producer using a xml, is that possible? For example the free(p->description)
inside producer_xml.c:348, does that affect the original Profile? That would
explain what we are obtaining (and the random nature of the bug, because it
depends of the order of the operations)

I've attached an attempt to reproduce with a toy Mlt code, but it doesn't
trigger the bug so far.

I cannot reproduce in git master.
Can you specify what is your default profile, and ffprobe the video you add ?

[kdenlive] [Bug 377255] New: Git master - multiple crashes on Clip:clone

2017-03-05 Thread alcinos
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=377255

Bug ID: 377255
Summary: Git master - multiple crashes on Clip:clone
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: git-master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: User Interface
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: french.ebook.lo...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 104385
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=104385=edit
backtrace

I quite often run into a crash that involves a Clip:Clone in the backtrace, and
causes a double free error inside mlt's XML module.

The backtrace is similar to the one obtained in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36

There seems to be several ways to trigger this bug. Loading a project (even a
new one) is one way, but the crash happen only ~20% of the time (a double free
doesn't necessarily trigger a crash, it would be worth it to look at memory
error)

An other way, but still inconsistent (it crashes ~30% of the time for me), is
to create a new project, add 10+ bin clips, select them all, and add them to
the timeline. For me, the "silhouette" of the clips appears, but when releasing
the mouse, it crashes. Note that if it doesn't crash the first time, undoing
until reacing the empty project and then redoing might help triggering the
crash.

I'm attaching a backtrace obtained while inserting multiple clips, undoing
twice and redoing twice.

I can confirm as well.

For example, the current url for the profile is
https://kdenlive.org/data/mltprofilesources.xml, which gives 404. Farid, do you
know where the data was moved ?

That's probably a "won't fix", at least for now : the effects coming from the
frei0r repository all have "simple keyframes" that look how you describe, but
there is currently no easy way AFAIK to turn this into a real keyframable
effect (because the latter is more flexible in terms of what you can do, in
particular you can choose a different interpolation).

The best solution overall IMHO would be to implement a keyframe management
similar to the one of blender for example, with a dedicated widget summarizing
all the keyframes for all effects. This would help insure synchronicity for
example.

I've taken a look as well, and I agree with Wegwerf to say that this is
probably *not* low hanging. It would probably require some refactoring, and
significant rewrites.
