SUMMARY


i have attached screenshots. the first one is the window is the default
"current screen resolution". this works fine but if i resize it maximize the
window, the old resolution remains active and there are black bars.
it should adjust to current screen resolution at all times and not just for
first time.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  RDP connection using current KRDC size"  over wayland session
2.  window shows up. try to maximize the same.
3. try to reduce window size, the original resolution is retained, it just
moves the viewport.

Hey. i checked their documentation and they seem to support definition lists. 
https://www.pell.portland.or.us/~orc/Code/discount/#v2.0.4

 In discount 2.0.4 I extended the definition list syntax to allow php markdown
extra definition lists which means that source like

 tag1
 : data

now generates

 tag1
 data


this is the functionality that i am saying is not present in okular. maybe our
version is behind 2.0.4? can i know the version of library used in okular?

can you confirm the file or your own file against documentation of discount
regarding definition lists?

i would like to add to this. the "Tasks" popup for me always shows complete
progress bar with "installing" and "kb" which i am not sure is the download
speed because it takes a small amount of time to download.

i would suggest that the "Tasks" popup be made clearer with the progress bar
that actually works and the labels correctly describe what is happening. 

currently it says, in my screenshot that libreoffice is installing at 93.1Kb/s
which is not what it is supposed to mean

this might sound a bit silly but i have a habit of reading planet.kde.org so i
know in advance what update i will get in the coming days once it lands. During
the update itself it just does magic things in the background so my suggestion
is that we should either inform the user exactly "what" they are getting in
this new update, maybe it can be in the discover, maybe after an update is
finished, it asks the user if they want to read the release notes, or if the
software informs the user about upcoming changes "before" doing the updates. 
Nate graham's blogpost is a staple now in KDE so why not bring that to the
users ? obviously users would be able to set this off or on depending on their
preferences but in my opinion if more people are exposed to the fixes that go
into the software, they would be more appreciative of the work and/or be more
willing to contribute

i mean i am using kde neon for almost 2.5 years now. i get somewhat weekly
updates in discover but i have to check TWIK blogs to actually see what was
updated. my suggestion is that users are given a notification.

i actually saw this on a linux lite os installation. once they update, the
finished update notification said "read release notes here" . 

i understand the announcements are there but do we direct users after an update
to that page?

this is on a fresh install that i did 2 days ago.
firstly, the software updated and made me restart twice which was weird.
anyways, i saw for the first time, folders which are generally in the "home"
directory on the desktop. i deleted a folder, say videos and checked that they
had gone from home folder itself.

the problem is, when i check Desktop folder from dolphin, it says no data but
on the desktop itself there are folders of home.
if i right click on these folders on desktop, it says location as "/ (desktop)"
which does not make any sense to me.

to be clear, selected "erase everything" during install and this was a fresh
disk so i didn't configure anything by myself.

i have attached screenshots that i think should be relevant in understanding
the issue. if you need screen recording of this, please let me know.

note, this is not a super critical bug or anything but out of habit after a
fresh install i saw some folders on the desktop and i deleted them only to find
out they get deleted from home directory itself. this is bad UX for new users
IMO

2. check desktop after updation

this is a simple enough bug. i have stock kde neon and apparently my okular did
not come with epub backend support. i did not know that.
when i tried to open an epub file, it thows an error.
i checked online and found i had to install epub backend. instead of doing
apt-get, i tried discover and found the package which did run my file
perfectly.

the problem is, okular did not open discover for me to tell me "this package
needs to be installed to run this file. do you want to proceed?"  or why didnt
it do this in the backend?

if it does not want to do in the backend, at least inform me that i should
check the backend with so and so name in the package manager because that is
where the package "should be".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  open epub file in okular
2.  no support for epub
3.  find okular-epub in discover
4. install package
5. run epub file

OBSERVED RESULT

the software should either try to search for the missing package itself in the
package manager and install it or at least inform the user that a package with
"okular-epub" name should be in the package manager that needs to be installed.

the current message that says "cannot find a plugin..." tells me okular will
refuse to open this file with no recourse

nope. i tried in a wayland session and it did not work for me.  i tried to run
libinput debug-events and do the gestures in both x11 and wayland session but i
never got this result

nope. nothing happens. it is a dell e7440 which i think has multitouch drivers
on windows

mising vpn plugin

i tried to run an openvpn config file. i got the "missing vpn plugin" error. 
searching online i found

Do you have the package network-manager-openvpn 

so installing  network-manager-openvpn solves this problem so the question is,
why isn't plasma detecting that openvpn file is being run and openvpn package
is missing so try to install this package?

1.  instal openvpn config
2.  try to run the config
3.  check error message
4.  now install  "network-manager-openvpn " and try again
5. it works now

yesterday i downloaded kde neon and installed it on an existing windows install
by formatting a partition. the software installed perfectly but i had to
install a driver and i got

/usr/bin/sudo must be owned by uid 0 and have the setuid bit set

error. i have tried to find any reason for this but gotten nothing. tried to
update the system but that failed because dpkg --configure -a also does not
work in installing updates.

i tried to reinstall neon on the same partition but that is also refusing to
format the drive. i tried to use partition manager in live session but that
errored out into setting a new partition on that.

i do not want to nuke the entire drive because the other partitions have data
that i do not have backup of.

i did set "log in automatically" at the user on install script if that helps.
also, during install, i set the partition to "/" and left everything else as
is. don't know why it broke by itself

i also dont know which component of plasma to tag so i put plasmashell-general

touchpad settings

SUMMARY

i updated to 5.25 and neither is 3 nor 4 finger gesture seem to work for me. i
checked settings and got to this page but it does not show any options for
these two gestures.

is there a way to detect if my touchpad supports the gestures/ is there a
compatibility issue/driver issue? 

is there a "test area" like keyboard has which says what is being pressed?

no. i installed a fresh install and had to run sudo ./install.sh,  this error
came up. also found that  i could do no sudo commands so updtes failed to
install also

yes that is what i said. i copied over the files and ran sudo ./install.sh.
nothing before that, it was a fresh install without internet so i wanted to get
wifi working, maybe ran ./install.sh without which complained about sudo i
tried that? probably

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. put in $12 in krunner
2. krunner will give approximate currency in local currency
3. navigate to result and press enter
4. "INR 835.4415001320539" shows in prompt but now result shows as system
setting window rules. pressing enter takes user to window rules setting pages

OBSERVED RESULT
once i click "enter" on the result of a currency conversion, i can either put
it as a clipboard input (shift+return) or if i click return, it should take
that as a prompt which it is doing but now system setting window rules show as
result which should not be possible.

EXPECTED RESULT
i expect the top result to be a currency conversion because then i should be
able to simply press shift+return instead of current down then shift + return.
(maybe always demote other results if the result is a currency converstion?) 
anyways, the problem is system setting should never open. that should never be
an action.

ok. i found something. 
when i write "12 USD" the results say "unit converter" and does what you
described. but just like in screenshot, if i write "$12", the response is from
calculator and not unit converter. pressing enter on that shows window rules. i
created a screen record of the same. this shows for all numbers with a $ sign.
going by your reasoning, i think if the user types $12, unit converter should
show and not calculator

check attached screenshot. it shows the name of the app as "im.vector.app" when
it should say element. this happened right after i updated android app from
f-droid.
1.18.0 is my android kde connect version.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. receive notification on phone
2. check desktop notification sync
3. name of app is internal name not user name of the app.

OBSERVED RESULT

im.vector.app in name of app which received the notification
EXPECTED RESULT
element in name of app which received the notification

this started happening right after android update but i could not open
spectacle quickly to take a screenshot or photo. had an idea to use element
troubleshoot notification setting to test this.

and yes. this happens with all android notifications.

confirmed. i was on 5.23.3 or 4 i think and yesterday had an update.

today i am unable to open discover and click on updates as it shows 5 but
crashes everytime. 
info center is also crashing 100% time i try to open it.
system settings is also crashing 100% of the time.

dolphin is working, firefox is working and so is okular and bash commands so
the big update yesterday is what is the culprit from my side.

if i can give my 2 cents. what we call a "digital certificate" as was pointed
out is usally something like a hardware token like a yubikey or similar or a
certificate like PFX or even what you'd get from

which uses pgp to sign with your public and private key.

this is how you properly sign a pdf. this uses certificates and "time stamping
authority" to verify that you, the user with the public key signed the
document. it has nothing to do with squigly line sign that you can do.

what was done in the video is "pseudo sign". this isn't really much to it
because anyone can do this anytime.

read how adobe reader does this. they allow users to "draw" a signature but
also "secured signs" using signatures and those signatures would be the above,
pfx or the likes so we do need to update the UI, give the option like adobe
reader.

 when i move the screen to anywhere other than where i dropped the pin and
start writing, the page view resets to that place always

the page should stay as is and allow user to type whatever from anywhere
without forcing user to stay on the point of pin.

i found something. i i manually add the IP of the laptop as trusted that i get
in its wifi from the phone hotpspot (192.168.121.215 in my case), kde connect
immediately worked flawlessly.

i suspect there is a problem in the ip address recognition/dhcp whatever that
kde connect gets confused. 

note: i turned on mobile hotspot, connect my laptop and wrote down its ip
address. on the phone, kde connect app, i manually added the same ip as trusted
and then it worked,

SUMMARY
using kde connect from desktop remote input feature to control the android
phone.

in this case, i used the "lock" to lock the mouse/trackpad to the phone and it
works but at the same time, typing anything on the keyboard does nothing. 
when i "lock" the mouse, it should also allow me to type whatever i do on the
desktop keyboard on the phone screen. 

note: i have "kde connect remote keyboard" as "on" in the "onscreenkeyboard" 
in language and input.


yes. i am aware of the fact that by manually selecting "kde connect remote
keyboard" this feature works but this should be a seamless feature just like
what remote mouse is. i can use the phone while connected to the mouse but to
use the keyboard i have to change the keyboard. 

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  connect desktop and mobile via kde connect
2. on dekstop open "remote input"
3.  click on "lock" to lock the mouse. check it works.
4. on the phone open the browser or any input box. 
5. try to type on the desktop

OBSERVED RESULT

typing on keyboad does nothing even when i have kde connect remote keyboard as
on.

oh yes. since i added the last comment, i saw the same problem happening again.
turns out my stock android 11 motorola does the same. it had changed the IP
address of the laptop to 192.168.166.215 and hence it was failing. i changed
that to updated ip in kde connect and now its working again but i agree, this
is a terrible workaround because dynamic ip is the norm and we should expect
kde connect to understand that, dunno why its happening

yesterday after updating, the laptop was restarting and because of battery
issues, the system got shut down in the middle of installing updates.
next time when i did start it, there was an update but discover got the error
asking me to do "dpkg --configure a" but did not tell me how or what.
for a new user, this is really confusing.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. update system
2. restart after updating
3. do not let the system finish installing updates during boot
4. start system again and try to update

OBSERVED RESULT
the update message is ambigious and not helpful. the "copy to clipboard" copies
the entire message instead of "dpkg --configure a" and also, nowhere the
message tells me to open terminal and paste the same using sudo

EXPECTED RESULT
when this dpkg error shows up, the user should be informed that dpkg command
must be posted in a terminal using sudo privileges. conversely, the software
could ask the user if it could try to fix the system by running it
automatically. then discover could run dpkg automatically and redo the update
and check if it fixes stuff..

so 2 ideas.
1. inform the users to press the "copy command" and paste the same in
terminal, maybe open the terminal too
2. do the dpkg command by itself and just ask the user to input sudo password.
this is more intuitive and less confusing.

SUMMARY
android 11 has this feature called "overcharging protection" and it kicks in by
default in the night because it expects you to "keep the phone plugged in for
the duration of the night" but i plug it in and i expect a fast 20-30 minutes
fast charge.
problem is the kde connect on my linux desktop does not show that that the
phone is being slowly charged and that i am forced to check the phone screen to
disable this.
i believe the kde connect widget can have this state shown with the charging
label and a button to disable it.


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.   check if android 11 has charging protection enabled 
2.  plug in the phone to charge late at night
3.  notice kde connect on desktop does not differentiate regular charging fro
this slow charging

OBSERVED RESULT
kde connect should inform user about the phone being slowly charged and an
option to disable/enable it from the widget/remote places

i would add my inputs. Linus Sebastian from LTT on YouTube did the switch to
Linux videos and yesterday they released the first video in the series.
It was simply embarrassing. pop os failed spectacularly, mint had live image
monitor issues and it reminded me of  high school project that the kid didn't
put a lot of thought in and the kid was still proud of showing it off,
stumbling along the way.
I have been using neon since 5.12 full time, so i know these things "should not
happen" but since they did to a novice like Linus and Luke, maybe we need to
look at how we can improve new comers.

The on-boarding experience is a good thing. I would like to add, with ideas
from the video to show people how to do basic stuff, like install packages. Pop
os failed because of Pop os fault. doesn't matter. the user was let down. How
about we inform the user about various install formats, like flatpak and snap
and deb and how they are different. Small texts, just pointers. 

I did not understand why Linus had to use a software to find if all devices
were set up, why doesn't the software at "on-boarding" time do that check and
say "there are drivers missing for this device. should i check to see if there
is a driver?" and install it also at the same time?


How about we put the "whats new in Kde" blog posts in this on-boarding
experience ? 

using the package manager is supposed to "prevent" users from bricking their
setups generally. 

oh, would it be possible to more "humanize" error screens? we do say "you are
about to take this step. the following will be removed", can we improve by
saying "proceed with caution. doing this might brick your system" instead of a
wall of text?

i want to add more inputs. the thing is, when you use those squiggly line
signature image, that isn't counted anywhere

i have attached a document with a "e-sign"  that i made with

and a link to a website that does the actual digital signatures on pdfs

if you open these pdfs, the uploaded one and one from the link, you will see
the there is no difference in the "e-sign" from a normal pdf. the signature is
just an overlay. it has no "meaning".

the samples otoh, okular tells you "hey. this was digitally signed by this and
this person at this time". that is what are called digital signatures and these
signed files are legally valid if your certificate checks out. note, evince
document viewer does not do anything apparently but okular opens it like adobe
reader does.

there is a setting, "Regional setting" under format. 
I have set mine to "india" and it works as advertised fine.

A quality of life improvement i am suggesting is in krunner currency
conversion. Currently if i type "$100" into krunner, it shows calculator and
"EUR 81.76614881439084". 
I am suggesting, the currency conversion should pick country from regional
settings and in my case, give me conversion in INR rupees instead of euro
because that is what i am most probably going to use.

pdf files which run on adobe reader.

according to this, around 1.2 million companies are registered in india. that
means at least 1.2 million people who are involved with the affairs of these
companies need adobe reader and by extension, windows. 
i have tried to open these files on okular and evince and mupdf i think but
none works. Do you know how much corporate acceptance open source software
would get in a place like india with something as common as being able to file
pdf files on a linux install.

we often recieve OTP sms which we have to enter on the desktop/other devices.
KDE connect allows sms to display on say phones to desktop perfectly but in
case of OTPs, we still have to select the notification panel, look for the OTP
sms and then either manually type it where ever we want to use it or, copy it
first by right clicking it and then pasting. What i am suggesting is, use

using this, if KDE connect detects an sms which has an OTP, that sms should get
truncated in the notification and that notification should remain persistent
for a certain time like 30 seconds. what this will do is, instead of having to
open the notification panel and look through where is the 6 digit code or
whatever, that work can be done by the system.
On android, many sms apps do this. They just show the OTP in the sms or in the
notification. I am suggesting the same functionality in the desktop side. It
wouldnt have to affect the phone app as the sms recognition would be done by
the desktop app.

SUMMARY

dolphin should show under the space information status bar the current usage of
wastebin. Other folders correctly show the free space in the partition but
wastebin always shows the total size of the partition and is unusable.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. check wastebin status bar for space information

OBSERVED RESULT

it shows usable space of the partition. unrelated and unnecessary

EXPECTED RESULT
it should show current space left on the drives (if only one drive) OR size of
current wastebin  which is much more consistent with other operating systems

android phones need some sort of backup. Currently, people often use google
services or other cloud to backup contacts, messages, apps, calendar, bookmarks
and call logs but there are android apps that let you do that offline on the
phone itself.

This free app for example lets you schedule all types of backups. Now, i have
used this app and been using kde connect extensively for the last 2 years and i
have set up a janky procedure where i use this app to schedule backups to a
folder and then use syncthing to backup that folder to my desktop linux. Its
taxing because it uses lots of components. 
I am suggesting kde connect have this functionality such that i can set up for
example, kde connect to every week backup my contacts to a folder on my desktop
and kdeconnect should do it automatically.

if i enable remote notifications on my android phone, the notifications from my
desktop are shown in the notification panel but nowhere else. Just like there
is a kde connect panel in kde neon which shows notification history of
connected devices and also in the notification panel, the same should be on the
phones as well. Currently i am using an old phone Lenovo z2 plus which uses a
custom ui and notifications are non expandable. clicking it only takes me to
kde connect app which is not helpful

there should be a panel in the screenshot, that shows history of notifications
from remote devices.

to add to this feature, there should be a copy button that lets you copy the
"OTP" instead of having to select, then right click and then pressing copy
button. That would be better

kde connect does not show emojis in notifications. I am receiving emojis in
telegram on my phone but notifications just show a box in place of the actual
emoji image. Kde has emoji support so there should be no reason for emojis to
not show up. attached shows notification from telegram in kde connect panel as
well as in notification panel.

konsole error

SUMMARY
i downloaded an appimage. when i try to double click on it, dolphin complains
"For security reasons, launching executables is not allowed in this context."

this gives me no indication that i should run the appimage by right click > run
in konsole.

2. when i do run in konsole, i am presented with 

"Warning: Could not find
'/home/user/Downloads/Frappe-Books-0.6.1-beta.0.AppImage', starting '/bin/bash'
instead.  Please check your profile settings"

again, this does not inform me that i have to open properties, tick is
executable under properties.

after doing that, i still get the same message in dolphin double clicking, i
have to go to run in konsole and then the appimage works..


i can say a couple of things about this.
1. we can improve the error description by informing users how appimages are
executed and that executable checkbox has to be checked or
2. detect, when double clicking that this is an appimage, that the permission
is not set, ask the user if it should be made executable and run it as is
without having to open in konsole.



STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  download appimage.
2.  double click on it in dolphin. see error.
3.  right click>run in konsole. then see error
4. now check is executable in properties. 
5. now run in konsole works.

OBSERVED RESULT
unhelpful errors in dolphin and konsole that do not inform the users about
permissions issue in appimage and no way to just automatically check the
permissions button on behalf of the user rather than forcing them to do it,
most probably they wont or wont know how

EXPECTED RESULT
appimage should run right off the bat after downloading it. sure,  the software
can ask user if they want to run appimages downloaded from the internet but why
should users be bothered to go through hoops to run software even if it is for
the first time?

SUMMARY
this is annoying. we use comma separator in currency  all the time, 100 or 1000
separator is used to make it somewhat easier to parse long currencies like in
india, 
10.56 is written as 1,00,000.00  while the same is written as 100,000.00 in
american? or internationally. whatever, the point is, everytime we select a
number that has comma separator, the same is treated as a fullstop, "." by the
krunner and one has to manually remove commas and leave the last full stop "."
as decimal separator. 
i have attached some screenshots that would explain it better


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  open krunner, alt+f2.
2.  type "100,000.00" and the result should be 10.00 but its shown as 100,
treating comma as decimal separator.
3. "$100,000.00*29" and see the response.

OBSERVED RESULT
comma is treated as decimal separator forcing users to remove all commas

EXPECTED RESULT
the software is already aware of the locale but the same is not being utlized
by krunner.
