[plasmashell] [Bug 490960] New: black monitor screen

2024-07-28 Thread laurie jarden
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490960

Bug ID: 490960
   Summary: black monitor screen
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.1.3
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: laur...@internode.on.net
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Application: plasmashell (6.1.3)
 (Compiled from sources)
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Frameworks Version: 6.4.0
Operating System: Linux 6.9.9-1-default x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Distribution: openSUSE Tumbleweed
DrKonqi: 6.1.3 [CoredumpBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
mouse clicking on trash icon, attempting to empty rubbish bin.
the main monitor screen becomes black for a few seconds, then resets itself
complete with a bug report popup.
this happens repeatedly and was reported on bug 450594 (probably not in the
correct bug place).
this repeated behavour usually occurs once per logged in sesion.
The same behavour also happens to opened programs, wigets, popups & system menu
where the item opened is black.
This requires either resizing or re-opening to restore.
along with this I also sometimes get a crash notice of filesystem failure.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

Hi Nate, This problem still exists for me.
My family only uses tumbleweed as our operating system (i.e. no windows or mac)
so I have no way to check if the problem is computer or OS related.
All our computers are locked at end of day & unlocked for use next morning.
At least once per session after unlocking the screen is black where lock/unlock
resolves the situation for my wife (single screen), with my computer (two
screens of different sizes) usually one screen is black while the other is
fine. turning the screen affected off then on again resolves the problem.
When opening applets or programs, the program window is black whereby resizing
or restarting the app/program fixes it.
Attempting to empty the rubbish bin (trash) everything goes black for 2 to 4
seconds then becomes usable again.
Sometimes when unlocking the computer I get a plasma shell crashed or file
system not responding warning, on these occasions I respond to the request to
report a bug. I have no idea if this action helps or hinders.
Both computers have AMD based cpu and video while all main monitors are Dell
U2719D.
As users not coders, what do I add to this bug to help?
Laurie.

Hi Fushan Wen, I renamed the file as requested then logged out/logged in -
locked screen/unlocked screen to log back in & plasma did not show crash
handler.
Setup is now unsuitable for me in this configuration, also a pop-up message
indicating virtual daemon not working and exiting may be a problem when
drafting & 3d modelling are required - changing back to original config

Thanks for replying at this time of year.
Using ls -l all files show -rw-rw-r-- 1
All directories are the same.
Files are moved from this drive to one used as a staging point to be then
copied to my NAS box for family viewing, using filezilla.
This is the only file of hundreds over two years that failed to be moved.
By re-encoding the file to .mkv with Handbrake the new file can be moved.
I have trouble playing .mkv type files from the NAS box, therefore .m4v is
used.
Laurie.

[ksmserver] [Bug 357413] kde crash on user swap

2016-02-28 Thread laurie jarden via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357413

--- Comment #5 from laurie jarden <laur...@internode.on.net> ---
Opensuse tumbleweed fully updated as of 29/02/2016 and I still get crashes when
swapping users.
The KDE Plasma 5 swap user widget works perfectly as an alternative to using
the main application launcher.
