[systemsettings] [Bug 371640] New: File type assocations override Gnome preferences
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371640 Bug ID: 371640 Summary: File type assocations override Gnome preferences Product: systemsettings Version: 5.8.2 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_filetypes Assignee: fa...@kde.org Reporter: piedro.kul...@googlemail.com As I understand there is a file for desktop specific mime type preferences: The file association dialog doesn't write to "~/.config/kde-mimeapps.list". This leads to overlap with the Gnome desktop preferences. The mechanism for using a desktop specific file type association file is already there implemented in the XDG standard - it should clearly be used. Otherwise users have to reset their association preferences every time they start another DE. Or build their mime type lists manually which seems a bit challenging... Please just change the location where the file type associations are stored so they only apply to KDE and do not interfere with the preferences of Gnome and XFCE and what ever else there is by using the intended methods... thx for reading, piedro Reproducible: Always -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 354179] File associations cannot be changed if already defined in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/mimeapps.list
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354179 piedro changed: What|Removed |Added CC||piedro.kul...@googlemail.co ||m --- Comment #11 from piedro --- The workaround doesn't help - I still can't change the *.aac association. If I do it just jumps back to audacious in my case. Also there is no way to reset all the mime types or at least one by one to default settings. The button "load defaults in the systemsettings is just greyed out. Frustrating because this seems a major problem for anyone actually working on KDE. thx for reading, please fix this or give some workaround instructions, piedro -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237469 piedro changed: What|Removed |Added CC||piedro.kul...@googlemail.co ||m --- Comment #3 from piedro --- this is still the case in plasma 5.8 on fully updated Arch. And it is really disturbing: There should be a simple way to set up user AND desktop specific mime types. Also I wonder why nobody else is concerned - is this a setup specific bug? It affected me with every setup I tried thx for reading, p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[krunner] [Bug 365855] Krunner's "Recent documents" results still there after "forgetting" recent docs in appdashboard
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365855 piedro changed: What|Removed |Added CC||piedro.kul...@googlemail.co ||m --- Comment #5 from piedro --- I think there might be even a bit more of a problem. Also krunner shows documents from folders I excluded beforehand. I do backups for customers, projects and other machines. I exclude these folders from searching and indexing obviously. Krunner still finds stuff that doesn't belong to me. So it seems that the settings for indexing and excluding folders from recent documents doesn't do the job. Also excluding some folders or patterns at a later time should delete them out of the database. Please ignore this comment if I misunderstood your approach and my concerns are already included in the proposed solution. A users history of recent activities and documents as useful as is should be the first focus of system security in my opinion... thx for reading, p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Phonon] [Bug 371587] New: Multimedia Settings do not work as expected, many problems, also inconsistent settings and UI
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371587 Bug ID: 371587 Summary: Multimedia Settings do not work as expected, many problems, also inconsistent settings and UI Product: Phonon Version: unspecified Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: settings Assignee: sit...@kde.org Reporter: piedro.kul...@googlemail.com CC: myr...@kde.org 1) - If I try to set the default device for Audio in the systemsettings the subcatogories should adopt these values. Otherwise why have the top hierarchies "audio" "recording" etc. at all? 2) - If I change the profile of a device greyed out items items start appearing can't be handled by the backend. All the solutions to remove them involve clearing all settings which is very unsettling. 3) - If I install the pulseaudio equalizer (lsdap or the qpaep) every time I change the settings in there the output of my applications reverts to USB headphones though this is clearly not set as preferred device. 4) - the panel widget offers to set the sound volume for the different application but doesn't allow to switch the output device (by design as I've read) - regarding the fragile state of sound settings and preferences I think this a poor decision as a quick way to switch back to headphones or desktop speakers or equalized output. 5) - In the system settings the top categories of the device priorities have a little arrow indicating I should be able to collapse the categorie - clicking on the arrow has no effect at all... 6) - I get some notification informing me that the sound system reverted to another device with higher priority - checking the device priorities shows that the device it reverts too is set to a lower priority - so I feel my settings are ignored. Maybe others have more issues with the settings. I know it is good practice to tackle one bug at a time. In this case though I feel there is a conceptional issue with the way the settings work and are presented. I also understand that pulseaudio is a bloated and complicated beast to tame but from a users perspective there really should be simple ways to - Volumes: change individual volumes of devices and applications (very nicely done with the new widget) - Output Speaker: change the output device of an application on the fly to switch to headphones feor example when listening for a podcast while playing music on the desktop speakers or quickly push the output of a skype call to the speakers so others in the room can listen in - Bass/Treble Bias: a simple way to adjust sound quality like adjusting bass/treble volume and balance between left and right speakers on a per device basis (so connecting the same set of headphones for second time still remembers enhanced bass setting). This is very important for people using a laptop to connect to different speaker systems e.g. at friends or, more importantly, at presentation rooms - if you do not have a way to reduce or enhance bass/treble settings you easily ruin your presentation - and as KDE announce to focus on professional use this should be a priority! thx for reading, piedro Reproducible: Always -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Akonadi] [Bug 333798] KMail: Number of indexed emails doesn't match number of emails
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333798 --- Comment #3 from piedro --- If one enables offline reading for Imap - and then unsubsribes to every single folder - than under "server subsciptions" re-subscribes to all folders again - now the folders get subscibed and while getting downloaded they get indexed... Thing is, now MOST of the mails get indexed but not all of them I get things like inbox containing 212 mails , indexed 201 so about every folder has a few mails missing! This is bad! If there is missing mail in the index you can't use the search in any critical workflow. Also there is no indication whatsoever which mails are indexed iand which aren't - so I do not even know which of my mails are included in a fulltext search and which are not. Also I think it's not a very good habit to not answer or react to bug reports at all. Soon no one will do any reports anymore since it's pointless in most cases. Why it crashes - I do not know - but looks like a big bug to me. Essentially this crashes every search for the content of files. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. search for a name you know you have in some files in your home folder 2. let it kfind run a long time 3. wait for it to crash Actual Results: crashes Expected Results: shouldn't crash If kfind is to be used within dolphin searches soon - it should not refer to ".kde4" directories, should it? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kaddressbook] [Bug 359178] New: Kaddressbook does not download new contacts from Google Contacts
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359178 Bug ID: 359178 Summary: Kaddressbook does not download new contacts from Google Contacts Product: kaddressbook Version: unspecified Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org Reporter: piedro.kul...@googlemail.com CC: to...@kde.org First of all: this is kaddressbook 5.1.1 (obviously the bug system is not yet prepared for the up to date versions...) on Arch fully updated. Changes in Google Contacts will not be reflected by the local addressbook (set up as akonadi ressource "Google Contacts"). Deleting the ressource and setting it up fresh will download all contacts from Google Contacts but refreshing the ressource has no effect at all. THis is not a configuration error (tested on fresh account) and by the way evolution (Gnome online accounts that is) works fine. I get that no one wants to fix this but please just take the code from gnome then - they got it right. p. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. set up google contacts akonadi ressource 2. add a new contact on Google Contact website 3. refresh akonadi ressource Actual Results: contact list doesn't get synchronized - the new contact doesn't show up Expected Results: obviously new contacts have to show up -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kmail2] [Bug 354400] In Kmail 5.0.2 autocompletion only shows recent email addresses but not stored emails in Kaddressbook
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354400 --- Comment #16 from piedro --- I do not think that opening the addressbook is a valid workaround. A well done feature for auto-completion should - be usable to instantly open available addressbook entries (preferably with a configuration option to exclude some addressbooks to prevent privacy issues and needless clutter with big huge contact lists) - include addresses that are not in the addressbooks but have been answered to before (also configuration options within kmails settings are required) - be ahead of the competition by featuring configuration options for pre-filtering and pre-sorting the entries shown plus a quick access button for changing the order of appearance on the fly Being content with the limitations of a mediocre and buggy approach shouldn't suit KDE well. I would hope for a bit more inspiration and ambition. Thunderbird is old as and more or less abandoned but still does a better job in many areas as new and shiny kmail... Mild inconveniences can't be the place to settle on for a self acclaimed ambitious project like KDE. back to the bug: It's probably not helping but it seems like since the last updates (ARCH fully upgraded) the search doesn't work initially but after a while it suddenly starts working until closing kmail. Same after restarting kmail - sadly I can't see any useful pattern to report here. cheers, p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kmail2] [Bug 344163] "Unable to fetch item from backend (collection 8260) : Unable to retrieve item from resource"
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344163 --- Comment #5 from piedro --- Hello! Now I do not get any of these errors anymore. The only error messages in my akonadiserver.error are these: Cannot pause an inactive timer Cannot resume a timer that is not paused. Cannot pause an inactive timer Cannot pause an inactive timer Cannot resume a timer that is not paused. Cannot resume a timer that is not paused. [kaddressbook] [Bug 351567] Google contacts can't be changed via kaddressbook
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351567 --- Comment #2 from piedro --- Well, the situation changed! Now on kadressbook in KDE Frameworks 5.18.0 this is different: Upstream sync does work now! Which is great... Downstream sync doesn't work anymore. Changes on gmail.com do not show up in kaddressbook. Pressing "refresh folder" doesn't have any effect. Deleting the addressbook and set it up again as akonadi ressource "Gmail Contacts" shows all changes. This new address book does not refresh properly also. CHnanging or disabling the auto refresh interval does not have any effect. I guess this is an akonadi problem. Somehow caching old data and not overwriting it properly when refreshing. Please comment someone. It's not like I am reporting an optical glitch. This is a serious problem. If Google contact resources do not work at least take them out of the KF5 ressources until this is fixed... thx, p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kmail2] [Bug 352472] "Search mails" ignores all settings
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352472 --- Comment #4 from piedro --- Annoying: - refining the search of a search folder has no effect... though the criteria is changed the mails "found" are just a repeated result of the prior search - I tried to search for a completely different name in the header but all the mails of the last search are still in the search folder, no new mails are added, no mails are removed... this happens everytime regardless of whether I change the name of the search folder or not... - also it is not possible to copy a search pattern and create a new refined search folder with a different name - the old search folder just gets renamed (but, as mentioned before, doesn't change the content in any way...) - removing a search criteria is not possible, the button to remove a criteria line is greyed out... - the search folder shows 240 results but the mail list area only shows around 30 mails... All in all, the virtual folder system is not in a working shape. I vote to remove it while it's a mere proof of concept (not even as such it is convincing!) - it scares of users from kmail. If searches do not provide reliable results. You have to trust your mail system if you want to work productivly with it. p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kmail2] [Bug 352472] "Search mails" ignores all settings
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352472 piedro changed: What|Removed |Added CC||piedro.kul...@googlemail.co ||m --- Comment #3 from piedro --- Searching E-Mails seems to work better now but I have not tested the results for consistency yet... Once a "search folder" is established pushing "edit search" and changing the search criteria does NOT change the contents (the results) within the search folder. This is still a broken feature. sad, p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kmail2] [Bug 356805] welcome screen "modal" after first setup
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356805 piedro changed: What|Removed |Added CC||piedro.kul...@googlemail.co ||m --- Comment #2 from piedro --- The quick and dirty fix is to simply change the welcome text to something like: "Please restart this application. Sorry for any inconvenience!" If someone can tell me where the welcome text resides in the code, I am happy to change it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[nepomuk] [Bug 324886] Search in dolphin always gets empty results
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324886 --- Comment #4 from piedro --- Sadly now on KDE applications 5.12 and plasma 5.5 dolphin search still does not work. Please look into it - a file browser without search doesn't work at all for many users ... p. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 354121] The left panel menu uses wrong fonts /wrong font rendering
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354121 piedro changed: What|Removed |Added CC||piedro.kul...@googlemail.co ||m --- Comment #3 from piedro --- Sorry I cannot help anymore, it's been some time now and I had to work with the machine here. I replaced all fonts again with Cantarell. Also tried Noto Sans. These seem to be better. I do not use Amarok anymore for that reason. It still seems (I just tried to answer your question) that the middle pane uses all kinds of fonts and sizes, certainly it doesn't respect system fonts but I do not care anymore... Within systemsettings the side panes seem to use the same font and styling now which is Noto sans. I am sorry not to be more helpful but I had to come up with a solution quick, changed the screen resolution from 1920x1200 to 1440x990 and forced 96 DPI (which is wrong - my monitor physically has 82dpi!) then changed all fonts to the gnome fonts. Now everything looks different but I can work with it and I do not have the inconsistencies described... I cannot change back now to the old setup for the bug hunt. I regret that as I am always very unhappy that so many bugs aren't handled at all. Now you are looking into this and I can't provide more detail. It's a shame I cannot be more helpful. If you want you can delete this bug and wait whether someone else finds this again. Maybe this all goes away anyway with the next updates... As a "worth trying" workaround (for those who have problems with font consistencies) I recommend using the gnome fonts: Cantarell, Ubuntu, Noto These seem to render more consistent than the KDE defaults... but maybe this is just my setup. thanks, piedro -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
