[plasmashell] [Bug 493181] Unable to logout when I replace Kwin with BSPWM
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493181 --- Comment #1 from sai --- Is there an alternative command I can use to logout instead, which will work regardless of the presence of kwin? The only way it works now is to kill the ksmwrapper from commandline each time. I can use a dmenu with options to logout and shutdown or reboot as well. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 493181] New: Unable to logout when I replace Kwin with BSPWM
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493181 Bug ID: 493181 Summary: Unable to logout when I replace Kwin with BSPWM Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 6.1.5 Platform: NixOS OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: X11 Integration Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: saipavanchitta1...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- *** If you're not sure this is actually a bug, instead post about it at https://discuss.kde.org If you're reporting a crash, attach a backtrace with debug symbols; see https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports Please remove this comment after reading and before submitting - thanks! *** SUMMARY After following the documentation, I tried to replace KWin with BSPWM in X11. I did this by masking the `plasma-kwin_x11.service` and using the following for bspwm: ``` [Install] WantedBy=plasma-workspace.target [Unit] Description=Plasma with BSPWM PartOf=graphical-session.target Before=plasma-workspace.target After=plasma-kcminit.service [Service] ExecStart=/run/current-system/sw/bin/bspwm Slice=session.slice Restart=on-failure ``` Everything works as expected, except that now I am unable to logout. This is the relevant entry I found in journal logs: ``` Sep 15 20:31:32 plasma-shutdown[17290]: org.kde.plasma.shutdown: KWin failed to complete logout ``` I am guessing that the shutdown method is interrupted by the unnatural absence of KWin service. If the service is masked, the shutdown service should, imo, should continue smoothly. OBSERVED RESULT Unable to logout, presented with a blank screen and cursor, BSPWM is still active. plasma-shutdown is interrupted. EXPECTED RESULT Successful logout and be presented with login screen. [kwin] [Bug 107302] Per-screen virtual desktops
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107302 --- Comment #73 from sai --- (In reply to michael from comment #69) I understand, and I apologize for not checking my language to make sure that it wasn't coarse. I was only trying to emphasize the importance of this functionality. I know that multi-monitors is not very well supported on X11 from what I have read. But, I also did see that wlroots does allow for this implementation. I am just curious as to what the complication is, given that in Plasma 6.0 Kwin was built to run in Wayland. If it was built from ground up, then I just wanted to know any details as to what made it difficult to implement this feature. Though, I understand that a similar issue is raised in Gnome for several years as well, so is it a complication that is similar to both the DE's? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Is it on the todo list, is it something they are working on or not something to expect soon? I think this is a feature that has been requested for few years now, and Mac has it implemented since so long now. [plasmashell] [Bug 462232] New: More Accessibility options under Settings > Accessibility
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462232 Bug ID: 462232 Summary: More Accessibility options under Settings > Accessibility Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 5.26.3 Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: madha...@outlook.com CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY Currently accessibility settings feel very unhelpful as it does not include many much-needed features and KDE settings in general make it extremely hard to find the accessibility features needed. I will try to explain why and what needs to be done As a visually impaired person myself i heavily rely on accessibility tools like magnifiers, Dark mode and more. Whenever I install or try new distro or DE My first instinct is to search for accessibility > Zoom and mostly i never had a problem finding the tool i need by myself on first try with most other DE's and other operating systems like windows. But, with KDE my first experience was extremely painful as if i search for Zoom anywhere search results won't show something like zoom or accessibility instead it would show Desktop Effects which makes it completely unintuitive and as i cannot read without zoom the UI was extremely confusing to me. So, i had to ask someone for help and they did not know anything about KDE or linux in general, above all people lack patience they always expect to find things instantly as such they would just read whatever I ask them to read and when they read Desktop Effects again and again it just made things worse and since zoom is not immediately visible when i asked them to see if they can find something like zoom, they said "NO". which made things extremely confusing with all my confusion i kept insisting it should be under accessibility as zoom is an accessibility feature. Then it took me two days to finaly figure out where Zoom is Even now after knowing more about KDE and playing around with settings sometimes i still feel like things are really unintuitive when it comes to accessibility things are very much scattered FEATURES REQUESTED It would be nice to see more accessibility features added to KDE. The following features should either be newly implemented or existing features should atleast be placed under appropriate sections under accessibility settings. Existing Kwin desktop effects should either be moved to settings > Accessibility or at the very least get shortcuts linking to the necessary features These features should also be easily searchable from anywhere on the desktop. For visually impaired users Zoom - Fullscreen zoom, Lens Zoom and Dock Color inversion High Contrast - high contrast with ability to switch between high contrast "Light" and "Dark" themes Font Size adjustments - Options for font sizes ranging from Very Small to Very Huge with preset font sizes Color Correction Grayscale Visual effects and animations - Ability to enable or disable visual effects like animations, transparency and more Mouse pointer Adjustments Screen Reader For Hearing impaired Mono Audio Captions Visual feedback For physically impaired Speech to text Keyboard adjustments And more required accessibility options with a cleaner intuitive interface and searchable properties for accessibility tools. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Issue 439840 mentions similar issue Although i appreciate the fine-grained controls KDE offers When implementing these accessibility features, please try to focus on providing intuitive presets and defaults. Wich would offer a much better UX for people with disabilities compared to them trying to figure out and finetune every aspect of the desktop. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kde] [Bug 449694] New: Desktop Effects > Zoom > setting mouse tracking to Push does not reflect intended behaviour
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=449694 Bug ID: 449694 Summary: Desktop Effects > Zoom > setting mouse tracking to Push does not reflect intended behaviour Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: madha...@outlook.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Zoom's Mouse tracing does not respect my preference. I prefer "Push" but changing the option has no effect and mouse tracking still behaves as if it's set to "Proportional". STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to System Settings > Workspace Behavior > Desktop Effects > Zoom 2. Change Mouse Tracking to Push > Apply 3. Move the cursor around OBSERVED RESULT Mouse Tracking behaviour does not reflect the setting Things to Note: 1. Changing the option to Push has no effect as mouse tracker behaves as if it is set to propotional 2. I noticed that Mouse tracking works as inted on fresh start with an empty desktop sesion. However, as soon as i launch any application the behaviour switches back to propotional. 3. Zoom settings show the option is set to push despite the behaviour. 4. Zoom Does not work i.e. Cannot Zoom in after switching to X11. EXPECTED RESULT When set to push the mouse cursor should be able to move within the focused area without shifting focus. Focus should shift only when the mouse cursor tries to move outside the focused area like it's pushing the focus to where its needed. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports *** I am trying to get my google calendar events in Korganizer, but I am unable to do so with google groupware. After I add the google groupware from settings > calendar > add google groupware > configure I am able to see the calendars and they are selected automatically. But, after I close the window the main settings window shows that it is trying to retrieve the tasks but I don't see any message about calendars. Then It says its ready, but no google calendars are visible in the main korganizer window. Also, is it possible to have a manual sync button available? It is important as you cannot force the user to wait for a long time until it syncs automatically for every event added in another platform. [kwin] [Bug 441898] zoom breaks when reaching above 4x zoom levels
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441898 --- Comment #1 from sai madhan --- Take a look at the discussion in Manjaro forum https://forum.manjaro.org/t/zooming-in-causes-display-to-render-incorrectly/80875?u=falcon-z I discovered that when changing compositor > Rendering Backend from OpenGL to XRender zoom works fine. The problem seems to be originating from OpenGL both 2.0 and 3.1 I tried changing my drivers from video-Linux to Video-modesetting and did not solve the issue.
