[plasmashell] [Bug 493181] Unable to logout when I replace Kwin with BSPWM

2024-10-31 Thread sai
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493181

--- Comment #1 from sai  ---
Is there an alternative command I can use to logout instead, which will work
regardless of the presence of kwin? The only way it works now is to kill the
ksmwrapper from commandline each time. I can use a dmenu with options to logout
and shutdown or reboot as well.

[kwin] [Bug 493181] New: Unable to logout when I replace Kwin with BSPWM

2024-09-15 Thread sai
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493181

Bug ID: 493181
   Summary: Unable to logout when I replace Kwin with BSPWM
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.1.5
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: X11 Integration
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

SUMMARY
After following the documentation, I tried to replace KWin with BSPWM in X11. I
did this by masking the `plasma-kwin_x11.service` and using the following for
bspwm:
```
[Install]
WantedBy=plasma-workspace.target
[Unit]
Description=Plasma with BSPWM
PartOf=graphical-session.target
Before=plasma-workspace.target
After=plasma-kcminit.service
[Service]
ExecStart=/run/current-system/sw/bin/bspwm
Slice=session.slice
Restart=on-failure
```
Everything works as expected, except that now I am unable to logout. This is
the relevant entry I found in journal logs:
```
Sep 15 20:31:32  plasma-shutdown[17290]: org.kde.plasma.shutdown:
KWin failed to complete logout
```
I am guessing that the shutdown method is interrupted by the unnatural absence
of KWin service. If the service is masked, the shutdown service should, imo,
should continue smoothly.

OBSERVED RESULT
Unable to logout, presented with a blank screen and cursor, BSPWM is still
active. plasma-shutdown is interrupted.

EXPECTED RESULT
Successful logout and be presented with login screen.

[kwin] [Bug 107302] Per-screen virtual desktops

2024-05-25 Thread sai
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107302

--- Comment #73 from sai  ---
(In reply to michael from comment #69)
I understand, and I apologize for not checking my language to make sure that it
wasn't coarse. I was only trying to emphasize the importance of this
functionality. I know that multi-monitors is not very well supported on X11
from what I have read. But, I also did see that wlroots does allow for this
implementation. I am just curious as to what the complication is, given that in
Plasma 6.0 Kwin was built to run in Wayland. If it was built from ground up,
then I just wanted to know any details as to what made it difficult to
implement this feature. Though, I understand that a similar issue is raised in
Gnome for several years as well, so is it a complication that is similar to
both the DE's?

--- Comment #68 from sai  ---
Is there any update from the devs? Is it on the todo list, is it something they
are working on or not something to expect soon? I think this is a feature that
has been requested for few years now, and Mac has it implemented since so long
now. I would definitely like to understand what is stopping the implementation
of this feature. This is such a deal breaker for me, and I keep switching from
KDE for this exact reason.

I have included attachments perhaps they explain better. These features may
exist as separate kwin effects but would be better if they are included under
settings > Accessibility so users can set things up to their needs quickly in
one place.

SUMMARY
Zoom should include an option for carat tracking as sometimes when trying to
search on application menu or when typing somewhere Zoom focus does not shift.
Which can sometimes lead to bad user experience so carat tracking could make
things better especially for people with Visual Impairment

That said also please include option to disable carat tracking as sometimes
keyboard actions could triger Zoom to shift focus without the user actually
intending.

[plasmashell] [Bug 462232] New: More Accessibility options under Settings > Accessibility

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462232

Bug ID: 462232
   Summary: More Accessibility options under Settings >
Accessibility
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.26.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: madha...@outlook.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Currently accessibility settings feel very unhelpful as it does not include
many much-needed features and KDE settings in general make it extremely hard to
find the accessibility features needed. I will try to explain why and what
needs to be done

As a visually impaired person myself i heavily rely on accessibility tools like
magnifiers, Dark mode and more. Whenever I install or try new distro or DE My
first instinct is to search for accessibility > Zoom and mostly i never had a
problem finding the tool i need by myself on first try with most other DE's and
other operating systems like windows. But, with KDE my first experience was
extremely painful as if i search for Zoom anywhere search results won't show
something like zoom or accessibility instead it would show Desktop Effects
which makes it completely unintuitive and as i cannot read without zoom the UI
was extremely confusing to me. So, i had to ask someone for help and they did
not know anything about KDE or linux in general, above all people lack patience
they always expect to find things instantly as such they would just read
whatever I ask them to read and when they read Desktop Effects again and again
it just made things worse and since zoom is not immediately visible when i
asked them to see if they can find something like zoom, they said "NO". which
made things extremely confusing with all my confusion i kept insisting it
should be under accessibility as zoom is an accessibility feature. Then it took
me two days to finaly figure out where Zoom is

Even now after knowing more about KDE and playing around with settings
sometimes i still feel like things are really unintuitive when it comes to
accessibility things are very much scattered

FEATURES REQUESTED
It would be nice to see more accessibility features added to KDE. The following
features should either be newly implemented or existing features should atleast
be placed under appropriate sections under accessibility settings. Existing
Kwin desktop effects should either be moved to settings > Accessibility or at
the very least get shortcuts linking to the necessary features

These features should also be easily searchable from anywhere on the desktop.

For visually impaired users
Zoom - Fullscreen zoom, Lens Zoom and Dock
Color inversion
High Contrast - high contrast with ability to switch between high contrast
"Light" and "Dark" themes
Font Size adjustments - Options for font sizes ranging from Very Small to Very
Huge with preset font sizes
Color Correction
Grayscale
Visual effects and animations - Ability to enable or disable visual effects
like animations, transparency and more
Mouse pointer Adjustments
Screen Reader

For Hearing impaired
Mono Audio
Captions
Visual feedback

For physically impaired
Speech to text
Keyboard adjustments

And more required accessibility options with a cleaner intuitive interface and
searchable properties for accessibility tools.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Issue 439840 mentions similar issue

Although i appreciate the fine-grained controls KDE offers When implementing
these accessibility features, please try to focus on providing intuitive
presets and defaults. Wich would offer a much better UX for people with
disabilities compared to them trying to figure out and finetune every aspect of
the desktop.

[plasmashell] [Bug 462229] New: Zoom in/out animation feels slugish

2022-11-24 Thread sai madhan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462229

Bug ID: 462229
   Summary: Zoom in/out animation feels slugish
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.26.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: madha...@outlook.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

When zooming in or zooming out the animation feels too slow.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In zoom settings set zoom focus to `Push`
2. Zoom in and out using the shortcuts

OBSERVED RESULT

Zoom in and out action feels sluggish in other words it feels like the actions
take too long and does not feel very responsive.

EXPECTED RESULT

Animations are nice as the actions feel smooth. However, it would be better if
only the first zoom (from 1x to 1x +) had a slower smoother animation and the
following zoom actions should have a quicker faster transition. Wich i believe
would make the interactions feel smoother and more responsive.

   Product: korganizer
   Version: 5.21.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: groupware
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: saipavanchitta1...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add the google groupware source for the calendar in Kroganizer
2. Create a test event in Korganizer
3. Check that the even shows up on my google calendar on my phone. (This works)
4. Now delete the event in Korganizer - From the UI the event is gone
5. When I check on my google calendar, the event is still present.
6. Even when I sync my calendar again with F5, the event still does not return.
7. The only way event returns is to delete the google calendar and set it up
again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Unable to delete the event on google calendar.

EXPECTED RESULT
Everything is in sync, and deleting an event also deletes it on my google
calendar.

SUMMARY
It would be helpfull and easier if we could open URL's directly into a private
or sandboxed browser session without needing to copy and paste URL's every
time. This could come in handy in circumstances where the source of the URL is
unknown or contains confidential information and needs to be viewed quickly.
Possibly with a shortcut like `ctrl + alt/shift +click` .

[kde] [Bug 449694] New: Desktop Effects > Zoom > setting mouse tracking to Push does not reflect intended behaviour

2022-02-06 Thread sai madhan

Bug ID: 449694
   Summary: Desktop Effects > Zoom > setting mouse tracking to
Push does not reflect intended behaviour
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: madha...@outlook.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Zoom's Mouse tracing does not respect my preference. I prefer "Push" but
changing the option has no effect and mouse tracking still behaves as if it's
set to "Proportional".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to System Settings > Workspace Behavior > Desktop Effects > Zoom
2. Change Mouse Tracking to Push > Apply
3.  Move the cursor around

OBSERVED RESULT
Mouse Tracking behaviour does not reflect the setting

Things to Note:
1. Changing the option to Push has no effect as mouse tracker behaves as if it
is set to propotional
2. I noticed that Mouse tracking works as inted on fresh start with an empty
desktop sesion. However, as soon as i launch any application the behaviour
switches back to  propotional.
3. Zoom settings show the option is set to push despite the behaviour.
4. Zoom Does not work i.e. Cannot Zoom in after switching to X11.

EXPECTED RESULT
When set to push the mouse cursor should be able to move within the focused
area without shifting focus. Focus should shift only when the mouse cursor
tries to move outside the focused area like it's pushing the focus to where its
needed.

I am trying to get my google calendar events in Korganizer, but I am unable to
do so with google groupware. After I add the google groupware from settings >
calendar > add google groupware > configure I am able to see the calendars and
they are selected automatically. But, after I close the window the main
settings window shows that it is trying to retrieve the tasks but I don't see
any message about calendars. Then It says its ready, but no google calendars
are visible in the main korganizer window.

Also, is it possible to have a manual sync button available? It is important as
you cannot force the user to wait for a long time until it syncs automatically
for every event added in another platform.

OBSERVED RESULT
No google calendars are visible

EXPECTED RESULT
Google Calendars are visible and synced automatically.

2021-09-08 Thread sai madhan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441898

--- Comment #1 from sai madhan  ---
Take a look at the discussion in Manjaro forum
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/zooming-in-causes-display-to-render-incorrectly/80875?u=falcon-z

I discovered that when changing compositor > Rendering Backend from OpenGL to
XRender zoom works fine. The problem seems to be originating from OpenGL both
2.0 and 3.1

I tried changing my drivers from video-Linux to Video-modesetting and did not
solve the issue.

[kde] [Bug 441898] New: zoom breaks when reaching above 4x zoom levels

2021-09-02 Thread sai madhan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441898

Bug ID: 441898
   Summary: zoom breaks when reaching above 4x zoom levels
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: madha...@outlook.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
While zooming in and reaching over 4x zoom display starts to blur, shows a
diagonal split in the screen (sometimes duplicating content and sometimes
displaying blank diagonal space), Text appears taller and out of propotions,
cursor positions incorrectly.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Go to Settings > workspace behavior > Display Effects > Zoom
2. Turn on zoom
3. SSet Scale to 1.5 (The same issue occurs with the default scale 1.20)
3. Zoom in and move cursor arround.

OBSERVED RESULT
1. A diagonal split occours in the display sometimes showing double the same
text or a black diagonal space .
2. Text becomes condensed More taller then wider. (out of regular propotions).
3. Cursor renders incorrectly. Assume a link the cursor appears to be placed
right above the link as intented but, when i try to click the link no response
follows. So, when i zoom out i find that cursor is placed few points to the
right from where the link is.
4. Screen appears blured.

EXPECTED RESULT
Zoom in smoothly without any blur, diagonal splits or bad text and cursor
rendering

[dragonplayer] [Bug 423569] New: Dragonplayer's *snap package* crashes each time one tries to play a video.

2020-06-26 Thread Sai Vinoba
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423569

Bug ID: 423569
   Summary: Dragonplayer's *snap package* crashes each time one
tries to play a video.
   Product: dragonplayer
   Version: 19.04
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general

dragonplayer-crash-error-log

SUMMARY
The snap version of dragonplayer crashes (each time one tries to play a movie)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Choose a movie to play.
2. Select 'Open with' and choose dragon plyaer (snap version)

OBSERVED RESULT
The player crashes.

EXPECTED RESULT
Normal operation; play the selected movie.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Lubuntu 20.04 / 20.10
SW Version: 19.04.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.61
Qt Version: 5.12.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The .deb package works just fine. It is the snap package that is crashing. The
deb package is at higher version (version: 20.04.2, frameworks: 5.71, Qt
version: 5.14.2) than snap, which is surprising to me, as a snap (or flatpak)
is understood to be always latest?!

I've attached error log that I get when I try to launch dragonplayer from
terminal. It mainly gives error about not having permission to
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf. See attachement.

I asked for assistance in snapcraft forum
(https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/dragon-player-crashing/18491) and was asked to
check snap connections. Following is what I have.
