That makes sense.
Could there be a toggle for Kate to behave like (say) a web browser, in that I
don't get all the tabs of my window when I open a new one, and closing a
document in one tab doesn't close it everywhere else? That would help when the
user has just plain text-editing in mind and not programming.

I do not have a screenshot of the errors at the moment, but this bug is also
irritating when something is being installed. Install something from the
window, and while it is being installed close both the Get New Stuff window and
the System Settings window itself. Now, System Settings refuses to open (when
launched) until whatever you were installing has finished.

[systemsettings] [Bug 448965] New: Feature Request: Ability to change individual cursors (like the default, selection, resize cursors etc)

2022-01-22 Thread strangequark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=448965

Summary: Feature Request: Ability to change individual cursors

   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.23.5
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_cursortheme
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The ability to change individual cursors instead of having to replace the
entire theme.
Most themes online are found in the per-cursor form (since it can be changed in
Windows), and these themes can not be used because the import cursors in the
kcm only supports importing an entire theme, not individual cursors one by one.
Windows has this in its old Control Panel Mouse settings, where you can change
the individual cursors one-by-one, by using .cur and .ico files.

FEATURE REQUEST
The ability to change individual cursors instead of having to change the entire
theme at once, like in Windows (which I will try to screenshot and send in the
next message)

Searching for 'GNOME' in the Discover search

SUMMARY
Currently, Discover's search is not very good. I find that searching for a
generic thing brings up random packages that I've never heard of with zero
ratings to the top, while stuff with ~300 ratings are quite a lot of scrolls
down. Sometimes, searching for the (almost) exact app name also gives up random
apps, while the app that was being searched for is somewhere down because the
name had hyphens instead of spaces.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Discover, search for GNOME

OBSERVED RESULT
Bunch of random stuff in the beginning, with zero ratings each. The relevant
apps (with GNOME in the name!) are a couple pages down. And all of them have
more than 100 ratings (whether good or bad).

EXPECTED RESULT
The apps with more number of ratings/better ratings should figure higher in the
list.

SUMMARY
When the vault is mounted and opened, and if Dolphin was opened first in
another Activity, the vault will try and open in the other activity. If it was
configured to open only on one activity, it'll lock itself and fail to open.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin (or the default file manager) in a separate activity, without
opening it in the current activity
2. Create a vault that is Activity-specific
3. Try to open and mount that vault

OBSERVED RESULT
The other Activity's Dolphin (or default file manager)) is opened, and it
doesn't actually display the contents of your vault because the vault got
locked.

EXPECTED RESULT
A new Dolphin (or default file manager) window should open in the current
Activity, and the vault should open in that.

SUMMARY
Currently, different packages of the same app are not grouped, and the ratings
are split between the apps. Also, it is very hard to find a (say) Flatpak
version of a Snap app that was found through the search, if one prefers Flatpak
over Snap. If the apps were grouped into one single entry, then the user
manually choose to install it through apt/flatpak/snap/etc.

There might be problems in terms of (say) the flatpak version being buggy and
the snap version being good, and I don't know how to solve that problem yet,
but this might be worth considering.

I believe the Pop!_OS Shop does this, but I'm not sure.

It is hard to find apps, and different packages of apps are hard to find if we

being split across multiple entries of the same app.

  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_fonts
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Currently, it is very hard to find the font you want when just scrolling
through the font list. I know that when you type in the font name it gets
autoselected, but that feature is hard to discover, since there isn't a search
bar shown or anything. Also, with fonts like Noto Sans, it becomes difficult to
find the 'Font Style', because Noto Sans has a huge list of Font Styles and
also because they are in a seemingly haphazard order. It would be better to
have two search fields, for the Font and the Font Style, so that the process of
finding fonts is easier.
A suggestion (but just a suggestion): Somewhat like how the 'File Associations'
section does it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to the 'Fonts' section, and try to change the 'General' font to 'Noto
Sans' with Font Style as 'SemiCondensed'

OBSERVED RESULT
Very hard to search for it, because the styles are apparently not sorted by
alphabetical order

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be a way to type in the name to search for it.

[kalendar] [Bug 445632] New: Make the menubar items open their dropdowns when the mouse is dragged over them

2021-11-17 Thread strangequark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445632

Bug ID: 445632
Summary: Make the menubar items open their dropdowns when the
mouse is dragged over them
   Product: kalendar
   Version: 0.2.1
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: claudio.cam...@gmail.com
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
CC: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In almost all KDE apps, the dropdown for a menubar item is opened when they are
left clicked and dragged, but nothing happens in Kalendar

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Okular or some other KDE app with menubars
2. Click on a menubar item, but without releasing the click, keep hovering over
the menubar
3. When the dropdown opens, without releasing the click, mouse down to an
entry, and release the click
4. The entry is opened
5. Try the same thing with Kalendar

OBSERVED RESULT
The menubar item gets highlighted, but the dropdown isn't opened, nor can you
go to a different menubar item by moving the mouse to it (without releasing the
click)

EXPECTED RESULT
As in Okular and other KDE apps, where clicking the menubar item without
releasing opens the dropdown

SUMMARY
The context menus currently have lots of padding, which is visually different
from (almost) all KDE apps. I think a toggle for a more compact mode for
desktop users (non-touchscreen users) would be nice. It would also increase the
visual unity with other KDE apps.

Sorry, I just realized that the feature already exists... I never noticed it

Status: REPORTED

  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: lei...@leinir.dk
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
(K)Ubuntu currently has this in the form of a separate utility: you can
configure in how much time the OS will look for new updates.
There should be an option, perhaps in System Settings' 'Software Update'
section or in the Discover Settings page, to configure the amount of days
before the OS looks for new updates.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
n/a

OBSERVED RESULT
The update notification pops up at random times, because the OS searches for
updates at random times that can not be configured by the user (at least
through the GUI)

EXPECTED RESULT
A setting, where the user can set the amount of time before the OS checks for
updates (like (K)Ubuntu does)

SUMMARY
Currently, when text is inputted into the description of an event with spaces
before it, it renders as code. I don't think there's much of a usecase to
render text as code in a calendar application, so the ability to turn this off
would be nice.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In the description, give a couple of spaces before writing

OBSERVED RESULT
The text renders as plaintext, like the formatting for code in most places.

EXPECTED RESULT
An ability to turn this off

SUMMARY
See the screenshot; when the systemwide default is set to 12-hour time, most
things in Kalendar use the 12-hour, but the spinboxes on the calendar event
creator use 24-hour time.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set system default to 12-hour

SUMMARY
Currently, in the week view, the events for the day are too small in width,
especially if the Event details view is open. Having a per-day view, which
looks like the week view but the events of only one day are displayed, or
something like a (number of days configurable) 3-4 day view, where only a
number of days is displayed, would increase the width that one day can have and
not make it feel cluttered.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
n/a

OBSERVED RESULT
In the week view, the width of a day is too small and the events look
cluttered, because the titles and dates take two or more lines

EXPECTED RESULT
A configurable '(number)-day view', where only a small number of days is
displayed, so that the width of a day is increased and it doesn't look as
cluttered.

[okular] [Bug 445900] New: The icons for the annotation tools look off when compared to the general look of Okular icons

2021-11-21 Thread strangequark

Bug ID: 445900
Summary: The icons for the annotation tools look off when
compared to the general look of Okular icons
   Product: okular
   Version: 21.08.3
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The icons for the annotation tools (Freehand Line, Highlighter, etc) look
ancient and out of place when compared to the icons for everything else
(Browse, Text selection, etc). Most other icons in the UI are monochromatic,
but the icons for these functions (in the main toolbar. In the annotation
toolbar they look fine) are very different and don't look good on low-res
displays either.
Moreover, when the Annotation Toolbar is shown (Menubar > Settings > Toolbars
Shown > Annotation Toolbar), the icons there are actually nice and monochrome
like the rest of the icons everywhere. This creates another visual discrepancy,
because now the icons *for the same function* are different in different
toolbars.
I guess my request is that colored icons are fine when an annotation tool
that's coloured is shown, but the paper at the back and the scribble line on
the icon look out of place.

OBSERVED RESULT
The icon looks off because of the paper at the back and the scribbling, while
the icon in the Annotation Toolbar looks fine.

EXPECTED RESULT
An icon more like the icons in the Annotation Toolbar, and maybe the icon can
be filled with color to show the color of the selected tool. But the paper at
the back looks bad.

SUMMARY
Pretty much the summary above

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to highlight the ending of a paragraph where the text ends somewhere
near the middle of the line. Start the highlight from a couple lines above the
end of the paragraph.

OBSERVED RESULT
When the highlighter *is* over the end line, but it's at the right - beyond the
end of the text - it doesn't highlight that last line

EXPECTED RESULT
It should be able to highlight the text no matter where over the line it is.

  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
The Timer widget that comes installed on a fresh install is very broken. When
pinned to a panel, it doesn't seem to see the Plasma font and still uses its
black font even when the Plasma theme is a dark theme. And it doesn't resize to
fill the height of the panel but remains with extremely small text. Moreover,
there is no popup for configuring/showing the UI when it's pinned to the panel,
which every other widget has.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
n/a

OBSERVED RESULT
The Timer widget is very broken.

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be some kind of popup when the widget pinned to the panel is
clicked, perhaps showing the countdown in a visual way with a circular clock
with bars depicting the elapsed time (like the Kronometer app's icon)
Further, it should resize to be slightly bigger when it's pinned to the panel

It's slightly different - there's no way to deselect any text when you're on

Plasma shortcut for Deselect, none of them work.
Escape doesn't work because it's not currently even there, but I wasn't sure of

color chooser
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.23.0
  Platform: Neon Packages

CC: jpwhit...@kde.org, mwoehlke.fl...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Enabling the new accent color chooser makes the titlebar color for all windows
the same as Breeze Light, when the theme is actually Breeze Classic

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable color scheme (System Settings > Appearance > Colors) Breeze Classic
(or plain Breeze, I'm not sure if the name changes on a new install or what).
The theme with the dark titlebars like Plasma 5.20 and below
2. Enable a custom accent color (green in my case) in the new accent color
picker

OBSERVED RESULT
On clicking Apply, the titlebars become light colored like the Breeze redesign,
even though the preview of the theme still has dark colored titlebars

EXPECTED RESULT
The titlebars should stay dark

SUMMARY
The accent color of the active desktop in the desktop pager widget is blue and
does not change along with the set accent color in System Settings' new accent
color chooser. Breeze Light does take the accent color.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Pin Pager widget to panel
2. Change accent color (System Settings > Appearance > Colors > Use Accent
Color > Custom)
3. Change the Plasma Style between Breeze Light and Breeze Dark

OBSERVED RESULT
The chosen accent color is used to highlight the active desktop in Breeze
Light, but it does not do that in Breeze Dark

EXPECTED RESULT
The desktop should be highlighted with chosen accent color in Breeze Dark theme
also

[okular] [Bug 444922] New: Feature Request: Improve discoverability of features

2021-11-03 Thread strangequark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444922

Bug ID: 444922
Summary: Feature Request: Improve discoverability of features
   Product: okular
   Version: 21.08.2
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Currently, in Okular there are several features that are buried, and can only
be found when editing the contents of toolbars. Having these features in the
Menu bar would increase the discoverability of these features. As an example, I
found out about 'Change Dark and Light Colors' only yesterday, and this setting
seems perfectly fit for the 'View' menu in the Menu bar. And this is just one
example, there are several cool features that are hidden and only visible when
editing the toolbars, which most people will not even try to do.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right click on a toolbar, 'Configure Toolbars'
2. In the 'Toolbar:' dropdown, select 'Main Toolbar '
3. Lots of features are here which are not present anywhere in the UI.

  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Show Desktop/Minimize All
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
When the Minimize All widget is clicked twice, the first time the windows are
minimized (as should be), and the second click opens a different activity.
This is super inconsistent, it seems to happen based on what you most recently
changed. As an example, if I recently changed between activities, it'll go back
to the previous activity. If I changed virtual desktops, it'll change virtual
desktop. And sometimes it'll do nothing at all and work like it's supposed to.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Pin Minimize All to panel
2. Click once
3. Click again

OBSERVED RESULT
The second click opens the different activity/virtual desktop

EXPECTED RESULT
The second click should un-minimize the windows in the current activity that
were minimized in the first click.

On applying Breeze, the theme changes but it's not the Breeze theme.

SUMMARY
I was installing and applying a couple of themes, and now the Breeze (both
Light and Dark) Plasma Styles appear to be broken for me.
Attached video for the problem

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install themes from the Get New Stuff window (I installed 'WhiteSur-dark')

SUMMARY
On shutting down KDE neon, the neon atom's electron structure logo thing and
the spinning circle come up. After they're gone, the screen is momentarily
black and then there's a ghost image of the end logo and circle, with the
circle frozen. This ghost image remains for about 10 seconds, before the system
shuts down fully.
This was not there before.
Also reproduced in the live images of Unstable and Testing (yet to check User,
but my current install is KDE neon User)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. shut down KDE neon (I don't know if this happens with other distros, I
haven't tried. However, this started happening only recently (about 2 weeks
ago).

OBSERVED RESULT
After the logo and spinning circle are gone, a ghost image of the logo and a
frozen spinner show up.

EXPECTED RESULT
After the shut down splash screen is gone, the system should shut down without
the frozen image.

This frozen image does not happen when there's the details screen during

services is shown, the system shuts down instantly after everything's done,
without showing any frozen images.
However, if I don't go to the details screen during shutdown, the frozen image
still appears.

[ksplash] [Bug 442462] New: The 'Details' Boot Splash Screen doesn't work most of the time

2021-09-14 Thread strangequark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442462

Bug ID: 442462
Summary: The 'Details' Boot Splash Screen doesn't work most of
the time
   Product: ksplash
   Version: 5.22.5
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The 'Details' Boot Splash Screen, which I assume is supposed to show the
verbose text-based boot screen where the status of various services being
started is displayed, doesn't work half the time. Sometimes on shutdown I do
get the details of services being stopped, but on boot I've never got that - it
just shows my laptop's vendor logo the entire time and no text at all.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. System Settings: Startup and Shutdown -> Boot Splash Screen, select
'Details'
2. Reboot

OBSERVED RESULT
On boot, only the laptop vendor logo is shown. On shutdown, sometimes the
details screen *is* shown, but most of the time the screen is just blank during
shutdown.

EXPECTED RESULT
The text logs of the starting/stopping of the services and stuff should be
shown

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.22
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.11.0-34-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When alt-tabbing into the details screen when Breeze or something else is
enabled, it works properly all the time.

[systemsettings] [Bug 433104] Applying a boot splash screen theme doesn't work

I've noticed something like this too - when I've applied any other boot splash
theme that was there by default other than Breeze (except Details, that one
just doesn't work at all for me (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442462)
), about half of them just don't work and just display the exact same boot
splash as the default Breeze.

[frameworks-kactivities] [Bug 442499] New: Single window of an application with multiple windows open cannot be dragged from one activity to another

2021-09-15 Thread strangequark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442499

Bug ID: 442499
Summary: Single window of an application with multiple windows
open cannot be dragged from one activity to another
   Product: frameworks-kactivities
   Version: 5.85.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ivan.cu...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Not sure which product to file this under, so please correct me if I filed it
in the wrong place.
In the activities panel, apps from the taskbar can normally be dragged into the
other activities. However, if multiple windows are grouped under the same
icon/title on the taskbar, you cannot move just a single window to the other
activity, you can only move all the app's windows at once.
For example, when the tooltip on hover is open that shows you the previews of
the windows you have open, you cannot drag one single window from that and
place it in the activity. That kind-of diminishes the point of being able to
drag stuff into different activities, if you can't drag only the window you
want and not everything else that's open in the same application.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create two activities or more, and have a couple of (example: Firefox)
windows open in the same app, and have window grouping enabled where all the
windows show as a tooltip under the same icon.
2. Open the activities pane (Meta+Q by default)
3. Drag the app icon in the taskbar into the other activity open in the panel,
and confirm that it works.
4. Drag just one single window from the hover-tooltip of the panel icon of the
app into another activity. It does not work; nothing happens.

OBSERVED RESULT
A single window of an app cannot be dragged into another activity when the
windows are grouped under the same icon

EXPECTED RESULT
You should be able to drag only one window into a different activity, as you
could do when you don't have all the windows grouped under the same icon
(example when you have the 'Task Manager' view enabled for the panel (right
click near the end of the app list -> Show Alternatives -> 'Task Manager')

SUMMARY
See photo of screen

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
No idea, I don't even mess around with theme files much. the max I've done is
installed themes through the Get New (Stuff) dialogs, and I've never installed
a SDDM theme either.

OBSERVED RESULT
Screenshot; sddm first has a virtual keyboard with nothing behind, then on
dismissing the keyboard the SDDM with its fallback theme shows up and doesn't
let me log in
Error message:
The current theme cannot be loaded due to the errors below, please select

before you look at the image)

EXPECTED RESULT

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I do not recall doing anything with sddm themes, I was using the default,

[okular] [Bug 442759] New: Scrolling with touchpad is not based on the action/speed of scrolling

2021-09-20 Thread strangequark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442759

Bug ID: 442759
Summary: Scrolling with touchpad is not based on the
action/speed of scrolling
   Product: okular
   Version: 20.12.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: random1123581...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
While scrolling with touchpad, the amount scrolled is not based on the
speed/acceleration of how you're scrolling, it just scrolls by a fixed amount.
It would be nice to have scrolling that depends on what speed the person is
scrolling, and not jerky like it is now.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Scroll with touchpad

OBSERVED RESULT
The scrolling of the document happens jerkily, and by a fixed amount every
time. If you're scrolling very slowly, then it scrolls a lot of lines, pauses,
and scrolls again.

EXPECTED RESULT
Smooth scrolling, where the speed of scrolling is dependent on the speed by
which you're scrolling with the touchpad

When Windows accent color is blue

SUMMARY
The icon for Okular in the Windows taskbar has a square boundary of the accent
color the user has defined in Windows. No other app I have installed has this.
See attachment.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Okular from MS Store
2. Open Okular, when the Windows taskbar is set to icon-only mode (as it is by
default)
3. The Okular icon is weird, and it has a square boundary of whatever accent
color you have set in Windows (Personalization->Colors->Choose your accent
color)

OBSERVED RESULT
See attachment

EXPECTED RESULT
The okular icon should be like all the other icons of all apps, without the
boundary.
