I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce this crash with the information provided.

Is this happening everytime you open an image from the context menu? or does
this happened only once? Unless you attach a backtrace or find a way to
reproduce the crash consistently we might have to close this.

If you chose to close krita without saving the file, the recovery "backup" in
%TEMP% is deleted, quoting from the docs: "If Krita doesn’t crash, and you
close Krita without saving your work, Krita will remove the AutoSave file: your
work will be gone and cannot be retrieved." Remember that any file in TEMP is
only for recovery purposes, and if the file has never been saved (file->save
and given a name and location), autosave will only keep a copy on the untitled
file inside TEMP. The files in your screenshot are SWAP files used by different
parts of krita and are not in anyway related to any file in particular.

[krita] [Bug 479537] Duplicate files makes my krita crash

vanyossi changed:

This is not a bug in krita but a confusion between recover files dialog and
recent files.

You need to read the documentation: everytime krita reopens from a session that
force close it loads all autosaves to help you recover any work you were doing.
Please read regarding that feature here:
https://docs.krita.org/en/user_manual/autosave.html#autosave-for-unsaved-files

This is intentional and will keep happening as you are confusing the recovery
autosaved files dialog
(https://docs.krita.org/en/_images/autosave_unnamed_restore.png) from recent
files area (https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/welcome_screen.html)
The first one popups after krita is forced to close (crash or by force closing
it) and the document was not saved since the last autosave.

>From what I can tell you are not saving your files at all but using the
recovery file system as your recent files. Please recover only the last version
of those 2 files and discard the older autosaves. Then use the file menu to
save your files, avoid force closing krita (maybe force closing is how it works
on chromeOS??).

We might need to rethink how autosave works on untitled files on phone/tablet
OS as the normal behavior on phone/tablet apps is to always keep the document
saved.

I cannot reproduce this issue, I can switch and come back and the zoom function
works as expected. There must be something else interfering with canvas events.
Does this happens using the mouse? Is this still the case in krita 5.2.2? Could
you provide more information about your setup if you can still reproduce it?

The workaround is not available on sandboxed krita which makes me add this
note:

This is the way macOS finder works, so there is nothing i'm aware atm taht we
can do except set the default format to "all" to allow the user to set a file
format using the extension. However for saving krita defaults to .kra since we
assume most people want to preserve all the file data to keep working on the
file later. I'm not sure if Qt native dialog options allows to hide the
combobox options and work as pages does.

Changing default file format to "all" might make more sense for the export
option.

[krita] [Bug 475448] New: data loss when copy pasting into active layer in subwindow mode.

2023-10-10 Thread vanyossi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475448

Bug ID: 475448
Summary: data loss when copy pasting into active layer in
subwindow mode.
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
Version: git master (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Tools/Transform
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: ghe...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

The bug causes data loss only in subwindow mode with both subwindows visible.
Tabbed mode or subwindows both in full screen and using the menu to switch
documents does not trigger apparently any issue. Tested on 5.1.5, and master
(21c93450d8)

To reproduce:
make 2 images A and B (A is source with paint info, B will be empty here)
Select from image A
Edit-> Paste into active layer: to B (!this is important as paste into active
layer activates transform)
Ctrl + Z <- undo should make the transform go away, but it doesn't until the
second a undo is perform
Ctrl + Z <- transforms dissapears
Go back image A, Copy
Activate image B

Depending on windows some minor differences happen
Tabs: A legend "cannot transform empty region" (this assumes initial condition
of empty image B)
Subwindows: A ghost transform decoration (in the video) appears, the image A
tile data is deleted, this is permanent if transform is done in any way to this
ghost outline, if enter is pressed the data reapppers in image A. If the
transform mask is modified in this state then returning to image A and deleting
the selection and then selecting image B subwindow destroys the entire paint
data of image A.

This issue is not related, the way your ellipses look it appears you have set
assistants magnetism below 1000.

To summarize the original bug:
The original issue still happens in krita master (42494a3d36). To easily
trigger:
- set image dpi to a high number: 3200dpi
- use an assistant with concentric/parallel options and set it with a curve.
(concentric ellipse set as a circle will work)
- paint with snap to assistant active.

There is nothing we can do about this report. It seems this is a common bug for
the D6000 docker and 3D reliant applications. Krita uses openGL for the canvas
representation so it does 3D. I'm sorry but we cannot fix this as there is
nothing krita can do to detect special hardware and react upon it. For
reference I base my reasoning in one of several other bug reports on the docker

I can confirm this bug, this was introduced by the new welcome screen.

It seems there is something missing from the startup code that "bakes" the
visibility status the dockers and other GUI elements were if the application is
closed abnormally. Recovering from this state requires either selecting another
workspace (after activating the toolbar options visibility) or resetting the
user settings.

If 5.1.5 is opened after the "crashing" 5.2, the dockers are recovered without
issue, however if 5.2 is opened "baking" the visibility state then opening
5.1.5 will present the issue as well.

This bug is fixed in 5.2.0-beta, or to be more precise, it fixed itself in the
mean time.

The scripts can be launched and they appear the moment they are added. However
there are a couple of things to note:
- If the shortcut is used by the system, the system will eat the shortcut: this
is expected, and some ten scripts defaults do clash.
- it is not possible to assign, as halla reported, combined modifier shortcuts
of the number row or simbols on macOS. (this is a separate bug)

I will close this bug in favor of bug 473923 as ten scripts do work on macOS
and can be activated.

[krita] [Bug 473923] New: Combined shortcuts with shift modifier not registering correctly

2023-08-29 Thread vanyossi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473923

Bug ID: 473923
Summary: Combined shortcuts with shift modifier not registering
correctly
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
Version: git master (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Other
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Shortcuts and Canvas Input Settings
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: ghe...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

git (e0fa60d68f)

This is only true for numbers and symbols and macOS.

Trying to set a shortcut to [cmd] + [shift] + [top row number or symbol]
results in:
- for numbers -> [cmd] + [number] , ignoring shift or if focus is lost during
setting it, [cmd] + [symbol under the number]
- for symbols -> [cmd] + [symbol if shift is pressed]

usint [alt] (on macOS is ⌥) is registered but in conjunction with shift it
registers the "shift" modified simbol instead of the vanilla press which breaks
the shortcut in the GUI. example: ‹‹ cmd + ⌥ + shift + 1 ›› -> becomes —> ‹‹
cmd + ⌥ + ! ››

This two cases make the shortcut invalid when calling it from the painting
session.

it only works correctly with letters even if the letter it registered was
uppercased [cmd] + [shift] + [n] -> [cmd] + [shift] + [N]

The canvas is not correctly updated when texture buffer is active. This happens
at least from this version up to 5.2.0 beta and master.

The issue before going with 16 buffers was a completely transparent (with small
images) or semi transparent images after a canvas operation and pan/move/paint
with bigger ones as shown in bug 398689. With the current code an the 16
buffers only some of them fail to update sometimes, leaving. a portion of the
image without redraw and showing the checkerboard as shown by bugs 459458,
452655 and 473806. If the image is small enough it can make the entire canvas
become transparent.

My current testings are using M! with master (e0fa60d68f) and 5.2.0beta

This is a display error, no data is lost and hiding/showing the a layer makes
the image redraw. I'll close all duplicates and use this bug as is the first
one to mention a problem with texture buffer with macOS (Nvidia and M1-2).

not a bug in krita. (when that is the case we know almost immediatly as most

I suggest you re read the entire build process documentation page

never converted to a png, only a copy saved to that format. Without detail

Krita is distributed as a dmg, inside is the application, however it needs to
be installed to prevail on the system. For this please drag and drop the
"krita.app" from the dmg to the System "Applications" folder.

I'm sorry but we cannot possibly bundle the manual in all languages with Krita,
that would make the download extremely big. If the user needs the manual

Yeah I think we can improve the amount of visual aids on the manual, but we
need to come up with a procedure to keep the screenshots updated, since as you
may noticed, a mismatch in krita versions will make the screenshots as good as
nothing.

As for the second comment about your missing Size properties, please go to
https://krita-artists.org/ a community with like-minded people that can help
you resolve all your doubts. There is no code in Krita to make the tool options
disappear for some users, so the issue is most likely a very old Krita, or a
user miss-understanding of the application interface/options, or something
else.

This is a bug tracker after all, and we can only handle one specific issue on
each report.

[krita] [Bug 398689] Image disappears when zooming in after scale transform

I cannot reproduce the exact behaviour your are getting, Im testing on master
(224b842). What I can reproduce is that upon activating zoom, some of the last
tiles will not load, the tiles are not gone, just not displayed and saving in
this state the data is not lost.

Disabling Texture Buffer will make all tiles to be loaded, The tiles are
correctly loaded in debug mode as the canvas takes more time to load each tile,
so this bug was difficult to catch.

For reference I'm on a M1 mac mini as well.

About having the complete image disapear and loose data upon saving, that is a
completely different bug and would need to be checked. Could you share your
system information from krita -> help menu?

It looks this bug is intentional from the log of commit
b128126189b5b8f86902ec23311a9efb14f5c230

quoting the entire log text:

Uniform Scaling mode means that your shape is not just "resized", but
"transformed" using a uniform transformation.

When you "resize" (uniform scaling disabled) a shape, you basically
change its local width and height (even when the shape is rotated
using some embedded transformation). Resizing can never shear or deform
your shape, that is a resized rectangle will always stay rectangular.

When you "uniform scale" a shape, you don't "resize" it, you apply a
transformation to it. That is all the small elements of the shape like
stroke, pattern and gradient will also become scaled. And if you apply
a uniform scale transform in global mode to a rotated shape, then
the shape will be scaled uniformly, and rectangle will become sheared.

NOTE1: Non-uniform scaling mode is available only when
*one* shape is selected. "Resizing" multiple shapes
in a non-uniform way is just not possible. Therefore the
checkbox becomes automatically disabled when you select
   multiple shapes.

NOTE2: Groups do not support non-uniform "resizing" (see NOTE1).
Technically, resizing of a group is just applying a common
transformation on the top of the child shapes. Therefore, all
the properties of the uniform scaling apply to this process.

then press for step 3, this ensures it will "reframe". Erasing with
brush, depending on flow and opacity will make it more difficult to ensure
there is indeed no data in the erased area (you can Ctrl + click layer
thumbnail to select those almost transparent pixels to reveal them).

Krita has not had printing functionality since 2016, and nobody has stepped up
to implement printing properly. Please use an application like Scribus if you
need to prepare images for printing.

Im guessing the average user does not color manage their paintings and uses the
default sRGB colorspace, which in my experience does print perfectly fine from
any other application.

Use KisBezierUtils for finding nearest point

We use goldenSearch for local region search as it is faster than cutting
the curve using deCastelJau and recalculating nearestPoint for the new
subcurves.

This is not a bug in Krita, clipboard data is correct. it is the receiving
program to handle the data in the clipboard correctly: in this case MS Paint
and Notion does not support alpha channel and they simply do not read it. Try
this in any software that supports alpha channel and the paste will be correct.

Before copying prepare the image: duplicate and merge the duplicate layers to
remove all alpha information, then select all and paste.

[krita] [Bug 461048] New: undo does not update canvas after opening ORA files

2022-10-26 Thread vanyossi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461048

Bug ID: 461048
Summary: undo does not update canvas after opening ORA files
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
Version: git master (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: regression
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: ghe...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

This is a weird bug, this only happens after opening/loading ORA files.
Triggering "Undo" does not update the canvas and the last action is still
visible (ie. a stroke). This happens regardless of canvas type (openGL/CPU).
The undo is performed however the canvas is never updated.

Tested to happen on master (92b3dc5676) tested on macOS and Windows

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open an ORA file
2. paint
3. Undo

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens

EXPECTED RESULT
The document display is reset to the current state

This is a bug tracker not a forum, as such this is not a bug in Krita but a
mis-configured environment. I suggest you open a thread in krita-artists.org
and keep this report closed. note: afaik on linux the recommended way is to use
a docker environment.

macOS "Ctrl" is called "Meta" inside Krita

Upon further investigation it is not possible to remap Ctrl + LeftClick as it
is used system wide to emulate "Right Click". This is not needed nowadays since
all pointer devices from apple have 2 buttons, however the legacy accessibility
function remains. This could be fixed, but it would require to filter with core
system events and probably make a complex subsystem for it. As al alternative
you could use "Ctrl + Right click"

On your side to make this work you would need to first disable Ctrl + Click to
emulate right click through third party apps.

For linux we recommend using the Appgimage
(https://krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/) as we use a heavily patched
Qt-5.12 and is mantained by us.

This is likely a bug in archlinux packaging and should be reported to their
package mantainer: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/krita/
