I still think the second proposal in the original post could be a big improvement too: An indicator next to or on the person's name indicating that me faces for that person are suggested/found and should be reviewed. Recognition work well using Deep Learning and give 97% of true positive results. Look well my comments on the screenshot: The unconfirmed face has a green frame around thumbnail.
