I notice too that the icons on the various search and replace buttons now appear; they didn't used to when running under Gnome. That's a plus. I've just received new h/w and installed F29 and will update this based on what I find. One thing that I didn't mention was that I use Gnome but install (afaik) all the required bits to make Kate work.
