They work for me. Thank you. I am Noob.

Ah right, this is because technically MTP counts as a remote connection.

You're right, that fixed it Thanks so much, I was using a Windows VM every
single time I had to manage photos on my phone. Having this off by default is
definitely extremely unintuitive/unexpected, but so glad there's at least a way
to make it work properly :)

I thought I had this problem too with Android 8 phone, but for me the problem
was that in Dolphin's settings, 'General' -> 'Previews' -> 'Skip previews for
remote files above' value (located in the bottom) was set to 'No previews'. Set
it to some sane value depending on your workflow, for example 10MiB.

If 'No previews' is still the default in latest Dolphin, it definitely should
be changed to some better value.

In Nautilus, checking 'Preferences' -> 'Search and Preview' -> 'Thumbnails' ->
'All files' works for me. But like in Dolphin, also check 'Smaller than' value,
just in case.

There are other file managers for example nautilus for GNOME has the same
issue.
I think all Linux file managers do not support thumbnails in Android.
Gwenview works fine with thumbnails in Android.

I just tried this on the newly released Kubuntu 20.10 (which uses Dolphin
20.08), & it still doesn't work properly. Can you confirm which version of
Dolphin you're using where it works?

I can confirm thumbnails/previews are not working properly over MTP in Dolphin
19.12.3 (in my case on Kubuntu 20.04).
