In some places it's bits, in other places it's bytes. What we probably do need is a setting for this. Anything that shows transfer rates generally shows bytes/s, such as download or upload progress. When I know, that there is a 1 Gbit/s link, it's hard to estimate the utilization if all graphs show values in bytes/s.
