Thanks for the reply, Kai. I just launched a fresh instance of Google Chrome,
and the global menu didn't show the menu options. I went to another desktop and
selected Dolphin (which showed the global menu), and then switched back to the
desktop that had Google Chrome, and the global menu appeared.

Would taking a screencast help? Could the NVidia drivers have a part in it? (I
know Plasma behaves a little differently on Nvidia's proprietary drivers vs.
Nouveau's open-source drivers).

I checked regarding the Nvidia comment. 

Upgraded to Nvidia 375 ( nvidia-375:amd64 (375.39-0ubuntu0.16.10.1, automatic)
) on 2017-04-05 

Upgraded to Ubuntu 17.04 on 2017-06-08  

The issues only started to happen (as far as I noticed) after upgrades in
2017-07 which did not include any Nvidia updates.

I was alt-tabbing between applications (with the "thumbnail" alt-tab style, not

I released the Alt+tab keys, but the "thumbnails" remained on the screen for a
few seconds, then kwin crashed.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

This isn't really a regression (and frankly not really that much of a bug, and
low-priority as it's an edge case of a fallback codepath).

Basically, the data model internally keeps a cache of information about the
application owning a window. Which application that is is figured out based on
window metadata. When relevant window metadata changes, the cache is wiped; the
next request for data from the model will rebuild the cache from scratch,
running the app identification heuristic in the process.

If a request for the icon comes into the model, it asks for the icon from
cache. If the cache doesn't yield an icon, it asks the window manager instead
as a fallback - and adds the icon into the cache so it can be found there next
time.

In other words, if the cache is wiped due to a metadata change, the WM will be
asked again for the icon when the UI frontend decides it needs it. This
explains why you see the icon change "sometimes": The metadata changes causing
cache evictions are unrelated to the icon and just evict the icon as a
side-effect (WM icon changes are not monitored as relevant metadata), and when
exactly the UI frontend asks again for the icon is also situationally complex
(e.g. when recreating delegates, or in cases where the model tells it to
re-request /all/ data for a task).

The way to fix this is to keep track of which windows currently have their icon
provided by the WM fallback, and monitor WM icon metadata changes for those
windows until the fallback is no longer needed (which could happen if a window
fixes its metadata at runtime so the app matching heuristic succeeds, or the
app is (re-)installed correctly on the system and can now be found).

This should be done, but the priority is usually to find out why a window hits
this fallback path in the first place and fix the app/install.

I'm sure one of the developers will chime in, but if you want to see how
polished KMM is, look at it under Linux.  The issue is that the porting of KDE
(including all libraries and associated programs) is still a work in progress,
so there do appear to be more rough edges.

I believe the encryption issue was discussed recently on the developers mailing
list, but all I can currently find is a thread from 2014.  KMyMoney does not do
it's own encryption, but uses GnuPG.  As I remember, the issue is whether or
not KMyMoney can find the appropriate encryption program - probably gpg2.exe.

No problem here on Windows 7 x64. 

kmymoney 4.8.0 looks to be compiled with MSVC2012, which uses msvcr120.dll. 

I did not made this installer but from my experience porting KDE apps to
Windows since 2000 I would say that this kind of problems are normally caused
by having additional pathes in the PATH environment variables which fetches dll
from other locations depending on other runtime files not in the related path. 
You may run kmymoney with http://www.dependencywalker.com/ to see where those
dll's are fetched from.

I understand that it's the application's responsibility to provide a correct

I don't have enough knowledge in that regard, but doesn't switching priorities
to fixing installations eliminate classes of applications, like those locally
installed? Not to mention those served remotely, having no installation data at
all.

While those are uncommon cases, the fallback seems important for them.

Note that neon developers only maintain the KDE software, everything else,
including kernel and xorg, are used directly from Ubuntu.

Martin reassigned this to neon developers. Maybe they find a way to test Plasma
