Bug ID: 484153
   Summary: Icon glitch when opening the launcher with hotkey
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: fishbon...@outlook.com
CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, noaha...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Video recording

SUMMARY
When the launcher is added to the panel, and you open it (by pressing hotkey
like Meta, or just click it), the launcher menu shows up, meanwhile a blue
"underscore" appears under the launcher icon too. When you close the launcher,
the underscore is gone.
However on my desktop if I open it with hotkey, the underscore can get
displaced, like shifted to the first icon on the panel. See the video
recording.
This doesn't happen if you open it by clicking.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a launcher widget on your panel
2. Open it via hotkey (like Meta)

OBSERVED RESULT
The underscore gets displaced

EXPECTED RESULT

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.2
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
In the first 10 secs of the recording, I opened and closed the launcher by
pressing Meta.
During 10~14 secs, I opened and closed by clicking it.
After that I first click it to open it, then close it by pressing Meta. Then
opened it again by Meta, and closed it by clicking.
You can see the underscore gets displaced only when hotkey is pressed.

By the way I have tried to put the launcher widget at different positions in
the panel, like as the first widget, or at a righter place. The displaced
underscore always appears on the left most corner.

A lot of processes can change the gamma lut on Xorg and this sounds like colord

[kde] [Bug 484154] New: Updating to Plasma 6 broke my setup with Maliit-Keyboard

2024-03-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484154

Bug ID: 484154
   Summary: Updating to Plasma 6 broke my setup with
Maliit-Keyboard
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: betami...@posteo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
My setup (handheld device with touchscreen) was fully set up and working with
Plasma 5, but after updating to Plasma 6, the Maliit keyboard no longer shows
up anywhere.
***

Hello there,
and sorry for filing this as generic - I am not sure which specific component
to file it under.
However, as the issue started with the update to Plasma 6, I am reasonably
confident that Maliit-keyboard is not to blame for this.

I am using a handheld based on Intel's i7-1165g7 with a touchscreen.
As the device does not come with a keyboard, I am relying on Maliit for all
touch typing, including unlocking the device from lockscreen.
With the device being portable and a single user device, I am automatically
logging into my user via and then locking the session via a simple autostart
script. (SDDM is uninstalled, not used)
This way, the device boots fully into Plasma and then drops me on the locked
screen, which I used to unlock via the touchscreen.
However, the update to Plasma 6 broke this workflow, as I can no longer get
maliit-keyboard to open.
It used to open by simply touching the line where I enter the password (nope),
or when touching the virtual keyboard button on the bottom left of the screen
(nope), or when touching a terminal window (nope), or when touching the Firefox
URL bar (nope).

My ~/.config/kwinrc still ends with these lines (did work previously):
[Wayland]
InputMethod[$e]=/usr/share/applications/com.github.maliit.keyboard.desktop
VirtualKeyboardEnabled=true

[Xwayland]
Scale=1

And "Maliit" is still selected as the Virtual Keyboard under System Settings.

I have also tried reinstalling maliit-keyboard, as well as plasma-desktop (yay
-S --asdeps $(yay -Si plasma-desktop | grep Depends | cut -d':' -f2)  ) but no
luck with either.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the latest version of Plasma 5, install and set up maliit-keyboard
2. Update to Plasma 6

OBSERVED RESULT
3. maliit-keyboard no longer opens

EXPECTED RESULT
3. maliit-keyboard shows up and allows touch-typing

[kwin] [Bug 484155] New: Defocused fullscreen apps sometimes continue to display over everything else

2024-03-21 Thread Nel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484155

Bug ID: 484155
   Summary: Defocused fullscreen apps sometimes continue to
display over everything else
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.11
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: core
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: nel.n.lindb...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When an app is fullscreen it should be possible to press the meta key and
defocus the app, have all panels (or just the panel the app launcher is in) and
the app launcher display, and be able to use any task managers in the panels to
focus other windows and use them temporarily before focusing the fullscreen
window again. However this functionality seems very flaky/broken on plasma and
most of the time doesn't work.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I unfortunately haven't been able to find any steps that always work because
it's very opaque when this doesn't and doesn't get flaky in my experience
though simply starting most any game and putting it in fullscreen will most of
the time cause some sort of strange behaviour. If it's one of the lucky few
times it does work right it usually stops working after a restart or two.

OBSERVED RESULT
Sometimes the panels and app launcher don't show up at all the fullscreen
window just get unfocused. If the panels do show up using the task manager to
switch to another window often results in that window flashing to the front and
then being hidden back behind the fullscreen window immediately after.

EXPECTED RESULT
Hitting the meta key should always: defocus the currently focused window and
show the application launcher and all panels (or at least the panel the
application launcher is in). Choosing another window from any task managers in
the shown panels should then focus that window and keep it at the top layer and
focused until it'd defocused.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 39 KDE Spin
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.12

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I haven't checked if this happens under Xorg but it happens under Wayland on
both my pc and my laptop. Both run the same version(s) of Fedora and Plasma

Hi Stephane,

I just tested the "monthly report"...
It looks like I'm broke now :-), at least in the graphics.
The value in the graphic is 2802.00 "shifted" x 10 = 28020.00 (see Attachment)
But only if the template is “responsive” and the report is “Last Month”.
The graphics are correct for the other templates or other time periods.

Greetings
Udo

2024-03-21 Thread hazelnot

--- Comment #4 from hazelnot  ---
I just discovered that this might be related to focus loss. I managed to regain
control of the pointer in one of the affected games by tabbing out and then
tabbing back in.

I encountered similar focus loss issues in other programs as well when using
Wayland, sometimes clicking on the window or the icon in the task manager
doesn't fully focus it, and alt-tabbing is needed.

When setting a Virtual Desktop for a window using Window Rules, choosing a
virtual desktop for the rule (despite whether the action is to remember, force,
apply initially, etc) and saving the rule, then going back and and clicking on
the rule, the "saved choice" for the virtual desktop is "All Desktops".
However, the rule actually does work with the last saved desktop. And changing
it to the desktop of choice again the Apply button is greyed out, indicating
that the choice was saved correctly. Manually changing it back to "All
Desktops" makes the Apply button clickable, proving again that it only
initially shows it as "All Desktops" despite the correct virtual desktop choice
being saved in the rule configuration.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make a window rule for any window, and add a property of "Virtual Desktop"
2. Set it as any virtual desktop, and save the rule.
3. Go back and then go into the rule again. You will see it says "All Desktops"
despite that not being the saved configuration.

OBSERVED RESULT
Virtual desktop choice is set to "All Desktops" when the rule is opened.

EXPECTED RESULT
Virtual desktop choice is set to the saved choice of virtual desktop when the
rule is opened.

[kwin] [Bug 484166] New: Make magnifying cursor look prettier when shaking it

2024-03-21 Thread Elkin Cruz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484166

Bug ID: 484166
   Summary: Make magnifying cursor look prettier when shaking it
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-various
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: linuxero...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The KWin plugin "shake cursor" is pretty useful and fun to show to other
people. My only gripe with it is that the strategy used to magnify the cursor
makes it look ugly.

There are three ways in which I can see the cursor be magnified:
- Increase its size. Cursors are vector graphic objects so when you change its
size (in settings) they appear large and slick.
- Keep its size and "zoom in" (magnify) the cursor. Depending on the
interpolation strategy used, the pointer could look highly pixelated (no
interpolation strategy) or look less pixelated but mushed (for example using
cubic interpolation).
- Mix two previous strategies: increase size of cursor but start transition in
a "zoom out" state so that the cursor starts looking the same and as it grows
to its actual size it looks slick.

Regardless of the strategy used (including others that don't come to mind), I'd
be nice to have a slick mouse magnification transition. Even a pixelated (no
interpolation) cursor would look better, IMHO, than one that is mushed by
interpolation.

Thanks :)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Activate "shake cursor" plugin in Window Manager -> Desktop Effects
2. Shake cursor

OBSERVED RESULT
Cursor is magnified and looks mushed

EXPECTED RESULT
Cursor is magnified and looks like a proper zoomed-in svg image

[kwin] [Bug 484167] New: "Virtual Desktop Behaviour" options do not work - it always switches to the activated windows virtual desktop.

2024-03-21 Thread Hammad R

Bug ID: 484167
   Summary: "Virtual Desktop Behaviour" options do not work - it
always switches to the activated windows virtual
desktop.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: core
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***
The "Virtual Desktop Behaviour" dropdown option in System Settings->Window
Behaviour->"Advanced" tab lists 3 options;

-to switch to a virtual desktop when a window is activated in it (i.e. if a
rule is applied to the window to remember or force it's chosen virtual desktop)
-to bring the activated/opened window to the current virtual desktop.
-to do nothing - i.e. to let the window open in its own virtual desktop but not
move from the current one - suffice to say the newly activated/opened window
won't be visible but this is what we want.

The last 2 options do not work - whatever option is chosen, KWin always moves
to the virtual desktop that the window is opened in.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make a window rule to force a window to a specific virtual desktop.
2. Change this virtual desktop option to "Do Nothing"
3. Launch the application (I tested with Dolphin file manager which is on my
taskbar, and both clicking the icon to launch AND using the Super+Number key to
launch it both gave the same effect)
4. Notice that it switches to the Virtual Desktop that the application has
launched in.
5. Change the option to "Bring to current desktop" and notice that this also
switches to the virtual desktop instead of moving the window.

OBSERVED RESULT
KWin keeps switching to the virtual desktop of the activated window.

EXPECTED RESULT
The set choice of what to do with the activated window is honoured by KWin.

FWIW I can't reproduce on master using fractional scaling, and when *both*
screen edge snap zone and window snap zone are set to None. But if you can
reproduce consistently and are certain the MR is causing the issue, I would
suggest reverting the MR, since having windows move by 1px increments is far
less annoying than kwin hanging.

[plasmashell] [Bug 484169] New: "Keep launchers separate" is grayed out even if relevant

2024-03-21 Thread Ivan Topolsky
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484169

Bug ID: 484169
   Summary: "Keep launchers separate" is grayed out even if
relevant
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: doktor@gmail.com
CC: qydwhotm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

"Keep launchers separate" is grayed out even in "Sort" modes where it is
relevant (e.g.: in "By desktop").

Context: I want the "Pin" to only be visible if the corresponding app is not
running. If it is running, I only want the Classic Task Manager's button, not
the "pin".

See: https://mstdn.science/@dryak/112133815180180834

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right click -> "Configure Task manager"
2. "Behaviour" pane
3. Section "Sort:"

OBSERVED RESULT

My "Sort" is on the default "By desktop".
"Keep launchers separate" is grayed out, so I cannot un-check it to obtain the
behaviour desired (see "context" above).

EXPECTED RESULT

4. Un-check "Keep launchers separate" checkbox.
5. "Ok"
6. Now "pins" are hidden if the app is running and there's a Task button

WORKAROUND

4. Switch "Sort:" to "Manual" (this un-grays the checkbox)
5. Un-check "Keep launchers separate" checkbox.
6. Switch back to your favourite "Sort" - e.g. "By desktop" (this re-grays the
checkbox, but now it's un-checked).
7. "Ok"
8. Now "pins" are hidden if the app is running and there's a Task button

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
Opensuse Tumbleeed 20240319
KDE Plasma Version:
6.0.2
KDE Frameworks Version:
6.0.2
Qt Version:
6.6.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
"minor" as this is just a UX/UI hiccup (need to fight around gray out check
box)
the actual desired functionnality (hiding "pins" automatically) works.

You could try KWIN_COMPOSE=O2 or KWIN_COMPOSE=O2ES environment variables to
force KWin to use the OpenGL compositor. If it doesn't help, then you could try
MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE='' to force Mesa to fall back to LLVMpipe. Of
course another option is to use the X11 session instead of Wayland.

I just reproduced it on my system... kind of. The OverlaySheet of reviews
didn't take 20 seconds to open, but it take about 5.

Steps:
0. Have it be over 12 hours since you last opened Discover
1. Launch Discover
2. Immediately click on VLC on the home page
3. Scroll down to the reviews section, which is still loading
4. The moment the "Show all reviews" button appears, click it

At this point Discover hung for about 5 seconds. After that, the OverlaySheet
opened.

Hmm, interesting. Although there is indeed no specific indication of the actual
disc number, my multi-CD albums are listed CD 1 tracks first, then CD 2 and so
on (as visible on the attached screenshot). I thought it is because I always
have CDs in separate folders in filesystem. However, I tried moving a track
from CD2 folder to CD1 and it still was listed at its right place amidst the
CD2 tracks.

[neon] [Bug 484172] New: Can't install `system76-driver` package

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I'm trying to install the **System76 drivers for my hardware**. I run the
following commands:

```
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:system76-dev/stable
sudo apt-get update (or `sudo pkcon refresh`)
sudo apt install system76-driver (or `sudo pkcon install system76-driver`)
```
I get the following errors:

```
$ pkcon install system76-driver
Resolving   [=]
Testing changes [=]
Finished[=]
Fatal error: The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  neon-desktop: Depends: powerdevil but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: power-profiles-daemon but it is not installable
```

OR

```
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 neon-desktop : Depends: powerdevil but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: power-profiles-daemon but it is not installable
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.
```

When I contacted System76 Support, this is what they had to say:

> Thank you for reaching out to our support team! The KDE Neon package for
> their desktop causes issues with installing our driver. That will need to be
> fixed on their end in order for the package to be installed.
> It looks like it is neon-desktop which depends on power-profiles-daemon since
> powerdevil depends on it. I think it is neon-desktop since plasma itself can
> be installed using Ubuntu packaging.

I'm not sure where to go from here. Considering System76 is a major hardware
vendor, I am hoping this gets the proper attention needed since none of their
hardware works with KDE Neon + System76 drivers. I am running LTS 22.04 and
KDE 6. I have the latest install. I believe in 20.04, this wasn't an issue but
then something broke in 20.04 with some update and I could never recover. At
that point, I switched to Fedora. However, I'm trying to give KDE Neon another
shot because of the LTS + Latest KDE but still have the same issues that drove
me away. This has been like that for more than a year and it's probably
important to look at.

Any help with this will be appreciated!
