SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujYLWQ2uelU
This is not possible to reliably reproduce. I had to go back and forth for
about 2 minutes in the demonstrative video to get it to repro and I haven't
been able to capture it on video ever since.
If you try to pair with an unreachable device, connect that device back to the
network and send a pair request back, you might cause the app to freeze. I
produced the coredump with SIGQUIT.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect a phone and a PC to the same network so that they see each other but
don't pair
2. Disconnect the phone from the wifi
3. Attempt to pair with the PC
4. Reconnect the phone to the wifi
5. Attempt to pair the phone

OBSERVED RESULT
The application might sometimes freeze unrecoverably

EXPECTED RESULT
No freeze should occur

DrKonqi: 6.0.3 [CoredumpBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
Repositories:

* Late last night I tried to install updates from the KDE repo's for
Tumbleweed. Everything became totally screwed-up so I disabled those repo's and
went back to the KDE packages in the main Tumbleweed repo's. (In case it
matters I do have repo's enabled for the NVIDIA drivers, Brave, Chrome, Vivaldi
and the Tumbleweed packages for PHP 7.4.) So this system is pretty much running
vanilla OpenSUSE Tumbleweed as of today (March 27th.)

Strange behavior (before and after the crash:)

* Since Plasma 6 arrived in Tumbleweed I've noticed that the system behaves in
a terribly sluggish sort of way. For example the mouse cursor becomes sluggish
if I move over the TaskBar, more so if I do something like clicking on a
desktop in the pager. The system was almost unusable for a period of days.
Then there were some Tumbleweed updates that reduced this problem considerably
- though it's still bad enough that I find myself checking for updates several
times per day. This problem is dramatically more pronounced after launching a
jetBrains product so I was thinking, at first, that it had something to do with
their runtime. Perhaps some part of this problem is in the jetBrains products
as the system runs more smoothly if I exit the jetBrains products - but
sluggishness remains. Also: The System Monitor never shows any real system
activity. The system is sluggish even when it seems that there's nothing going
on.

* I've tried turning off all the desktop behaviors, switching back to the "Icon
Only Task Manager" from my favorite "Task Manager," - anything I can think of -
no joy.

Before the crash:

* The desktop was off when I got into the office. I booted it, took a look at
the email and checked for Tumbleweed updates.

* At some point I launched the jetBrains IDEA IDE and, while it was loading, I
also launched the jetBrains Toolbox.

This crash report:

* The jetBrains toolbox did not arrive in my taskbar so I'm guessing the crash
had something to do with that.

* While writing this report I launched the Toolbox again (with the mouse
terribly sluggish around the taskbar,) and it is now running without any
(other) problems.

After the crash:

* The system monitor shows Thunderbird occasionally pops up to the top of the
list of processes with 8% (then drops down again,) the Plasma System Monitor
occasionally pops-up to the top with 1.8% but seems to be under 1% most of the
time, kwin_x11 occasionally pops-up to the top at 2.2% and sometimes stays up
there for a while before dropping back to 0.5% or so, the Java runtime seems to
be consistent at 0.5% (but I'm writing a bug report - the IDE is minimized in
the taskbar,) all the other tasks don't show a CPU usage. Basically the system
isn't doing much of anything as I write this report - but the mouse cursor gets
sluggish when I move it off of this editor and over the taskbar.

* While writing this report I moved the cursor over to another monitor where
Konsole is running (to get a list of active repo's.) The mouse was terribly
sluggish along the way but went back to normal after I started typing on
Konsole.

I hope this helps,
Thanks again for your most excellent service to the community

The reporter is unsure if this crash is reproducible.

SUMMARY
Since upgrading to Plasma 6, I've experienced an issue where the bottom panel
occasionally becomes unresponsive, and notifications, switching apps, etc, does
not work. Fortunately, when pressing the super key on my keyboard, the
application menu still pops up and allows me to launch apps... I have been
using this as a workaround by using it to launch Konsole and restart
plasmashell, which seems to correct the issue temporarily. This behavior has
persisted from Plasma 6.0.0 through plasma 6.0.3, and further experiences
suggest that it is tied to the monitors being off (via the energy saving
settings), as the issue only ever occurs after resuming from that state.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Lock Screen, or leave system idle long enough to enter the lock screen.
2. Press the escape button, or wait until screens turn off
3. Wait an uncertain period (can be anywhere from 30 seconds to several hours,
though the longer you wait the more likely it is to be an issue.)
4. Log back in.

OBSERVED RESULT
Panel is unresponsive. Hovering does not highlight icons or show previews, and
clicking does not switch apps, open menus, etc. Occasionally, Icons seem to be
out of order as well while in this unresponsive state.

EXPECTED RESULT
Panel works as normal.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Nobara Linux 39
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Running on Wayland, with an AMD GPU (RX 6800). System has 3 monitors, with
panel only appearing on the primary. Monitors have different resolutions /
refresh rates. All are set to adaptive sync and to allow screen tearing, do not
have scaling applied, and are connected via display port. Monitors are set not
to search for inputs, and thus no longer disconnect / reconnect when in power
save mode.
- Using the Vanilla KDE version of Nobara, with the default Breeze Dark Global
Theme.
- Attached is the output of plasmashell to command line between restarting
plasmashell to fix the issue once, then manually retriggering the issue ~30
seconds later. Cannot consistently trigger the issue on such short timeframes.

will, Amarok won't probably either, so I guess I'll just close this request (a

[krita] [Bug 484622] New: Forcing GDS mitigation for older CPUs on Linux makes krita crash

2024-03-27 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484622

Bug ID: 484622
Summary: Forcing GDS mitigation for older CPUs on Linux makes
krita crash
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.2.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: bugrepor...@freenet.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 167863
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167863=edit
Krita backtrace and disassembly

When the Gather Data Sampling mitigation is forced on Linux for older CPUs
(i.e. Intel Core 6th Gen Skylake) that are affected by the GDS vulnerability,
AVX/AVX2 instructions are disabled, because there is no microcode update
available.

On affected systems 'lscpu' reports:
…
Vulnerabilities:
Gather data sampling: Mitigation; AVX disabled, no microcode
…

This causes Krita to crash, because something is wrong with the CPU feature
detection (xsimd function call) in Krita and it's still trying to use VEX
instructions. Similar problems were already reported and fixed for pcre2 (regex
library) and Babl/Gimp. See the attached gdb backtrace/disassembly and the
following pcre2 issue (reported by me) for further information.

https://github.com/PCRE2Project/pcre2/issues/399

Babl/Gimp issue:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/babl/-/issues/96#note_2056377

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Force GDS mitigation by adding 'gather_data_sampling=force' as kernel
parameter on an affected system (AVX/AVX2 disabled).
2. Start krita and try to open a PNG image.

OBSERVED RESULT

Krita crashes with 'SIGILL, Illegal instruction'.

EXPECTED RESULT

Krita should not crash and open the file.

[krusader] [Bug 445549] kioslave5 blocking umount

2024-03-27 Thread Jim
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445549

Given the lack of response, I'm assuming that this bug is not going to be
addressed, so I began searching for a workaround on my own. It failed, but I
wanted to document what I did and the results for anyone following this bug
report or finding it in the future.

I found that the kio packages are not flagged as being built for a specific
version of ubuntu and that
https://repo.miserver.it.umich.edu/ubuntu/pool/universe/ has the older (5.68)
versions.

First, I installed qml-module-org-kde-kio_5.92.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb in the hope
that this behavior was simply due to a missing dependency not being installed.
Unfortunately, the problem still existed, so I removed the package.

I then installed kio-extras_19.12.3a-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb &
kio-extras-data_19.12.3a-0ubuntu2_all.deb - dpkg complained of missing
libopenexr24_2.3.0-6ubuntu0.5_amd64.deb so I downloaded & installed it. It
then complained of missing libilmbase24_2.3.0-6build1_amd64.deb so I did the
same for that package too. The problem still existed.

I installed libkf5kiowidgets5_5.68.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb over version 5.92 that
was on my system (installed by apt when the laptop was first set up). Krusader
would not start - krusader: symbol lookup error:
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5Parts.so.5: undefined symbol:
_ZN3KIO13JobUiDelegateC1E6QFlagsIN14KJobUiDelegate4FlagEEP7QWidget when run
from a command line.

Figuring it needed the rest of the kio libraries, I installed these one at a
time, testing between each:
   libkf5kiontlm5_5.68.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb - same error
   libkf5kiofilewidgets5_5.68.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb - same error
   libkf5kiogui5_5.68.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb - same error
   libkf5kiocore5_5.68.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb - different error this time -
krusader: symbol lookup error: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5Parts.so.5:
undefined symbol: _ZN3KIO11TransferJob13mimeTypeFoundEPNS_3JobERK7QString
kio_5.68.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb - second error repeated itself

Since krusader would still not start, I got to thinking that there are probably
other dependencies out there, so queried apt & found that there are 104 (!!!)
libkf5* packages on my system. Decided that I do not have the patience to go
through the list, manually download each, and chase dependencies for every one
of them.

Removed libilmbase24 libopenexr24 kio-extras kio-extras-data with dpkg, then
installed kio kio-extras kio-extras-data libkf5kiocore5 libkf5kiofilewidgets5
libkf5kiogui5 libkf5kiontml5 libkf5kiowidgets5 via apt to put my system back
how it was, defect and all. :(

---

Does anyone know of any programs that look / feel / behave like krusader that
may not be affected by this flaw in the underlying KDE system? Or know of a
viable workaround to fix the file locking issues introduced between 5.68 &
5.92? Love the program, but it's just plain broken at this point, especially
with my using flash drives every single day.

I'm in a VM and I think that's a bit more insulated than systems "out in the
wild"

Tried several reboots and looked with coredumpctl, nothing obvious I'm afraid.

The "add exclude" failure seems curious. I know Fedora "hardwires" some

seen this failure before...

[kate] [Bug 455890] Toggling navigation bar visibility breaks UI

Still happens in both Kate or KWrite 24.02.1. I'll attach a screen recording.

It depends on that
- Auto hide tabs is enabled in Configure/Behavior/Tabs, so that the tab bar is
hidden when there is only one file open
- there is only one file open

There are two variants of the glitch:
- one that happens when disabling the navigation bar in the above conditions
- one that happens when enabling the navigation bar, with the additional
condition that the navigation bar hasn't been visible since starting Kate or
KWrite, or that the last time the navigation bar was visible, the tab bar was
also visible.

Normally the four buttons that appear stretched in the glitch are
- at the ends of the tab bar if the tab bar is visible
- at the ends of the navigation bar if the tab bar is hidden but the navigation
bar is visible
- hidden if neither the tab bar, nor the navigation bar is visible.
These happen if a given state (w.r.t. the visibility of the tab bar and the
navigation bar) is reached via opening Kate or KWrite in a given state, via
opening or closing a tab, or toggling the Auto hide tabs option.

I guess the bug exists because
- when the navigation bar gets disabled when the tab bar is invisible, the
buttons don't get hidden
- when the navigation bar gets enabled and the tab bar is invisible, the
buttons don't get moved to the navigation bar if they are currently invisible
in some cases (perhaps when they are in the invisible tab bar rather than in
the hitherto invisible navigation bar?)

[dolphin] [Bug 483578] File search doesn't seem to work, doesn't ever list any files

2024-03-27 Thread Ellie
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483578

Created attachment 167872
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167872=edit
Screenshot of Dolphin search provider settings (or at least that's what I think
this window is)

The baloosearch libraries were definitely installed, I think openSUSE pulled
those in, while the baloo indexer was not. The indexer might be installed now
but isn't running and probably wasn't ever, the service is disabled. I suggest
Dolphin should probably detect this situation if that's a problem.

But the dolphin search settings window honestly doesn't look like ANY search
provider is known to it, for whatever reason. It doesn't seem to me like it's
trying to use baloo, but see for yourself on the screenshot I guess. I can't
quite figure out what it's showing me.

I may not be doing the same...

I've installed
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/test/40_Beta/Spins/x86_64/iso/Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-40_Beta-1.10.iso
in a KVM guest. That works, I get nothing reported by a "systemctl status
--user kde-baloo"

Updated to the status "as of now", similarly no trouble.

I tried the folder creation/rename tricks that triggers Bug 478854 and don't
get the failures.

As mentioned in Bug 481977, replacing libva-vdpau-driver with
