SUMMARY
I don't know why it keeps happening and I don't know how to reproduce it but
when I check coredumpctl, baloo_file keeps appearing repeatedly. It seems to be
stuck in recursion.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 450406] baloo_file keeps appearing in coredumpctl

2022-02-17 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450406

Like I said, I have no idea what causes these crashes as there's no indicators
when it happens. They just crop up in coredumpctl. I'll try 'balooctl purge'
and see if it works.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 470775] New: Add "Open link" as a menu option

2023-06-08 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470775

Bug ID: 470775
Summary: Add "Open link" as a menu option
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: 23.04.1
  Platform: unspecified
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: antti.s...@gmail.com
CC: andrew.g.r.hol...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If KDE integration isn't installed on a PC or if flatpak sandboxing is blocking
it from working, it is quite hard to open a link on another PC. At least with
Windows -> Linux, using Ctrl+V on the remote input just sends the Ctrl+V keys
instead of the clipboard. To solve this I ask to add an "Open Link" menu option
alongside the "Multimedia Control", "Remote Input" and "Share File" options. In
this submenu you paste the link you want to open into a textbox and then click
accept to open it in the recipient computer.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set "Delete Oldest Files From Trash" option for trash
2. Try to trash files past the trash size limit

I believe this is caused by the network blocking UDP. Because TCP still works,
the web request goes through and doesn't redirect to the network login page.
For me a hotel network kept nagging me about needing to login while internet
worked fine. It was when wireguard or torrents didn't work when I started to
have an idea why it might be happening.

CC: lamar...@kde.org, lukas.ti...@merlin.cz
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/LuaVOYQOw3g
When the notification prompts you to log in, the button takes you to
https://networkcheck.kde.org/. Normally when the network login blocks all
traffic, it automatically redirects you to the login page. If the network only
blocks UDP before you log in, the web request goes through to that page and it
only displays OK. I think the notification should direct you straight to the
default gateway like it ddoes on android.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Be in a network that requires login but only Blocks UDP
2. Click on the desktop notification to log in

OBSERVED RESULT
You get directed to https://networkcheck.kde.org/ and the webpage only displays
OK while you never get to log into your wifi

EXPECTED RESULT
The notification should direct you to the default gateway where the login
resides

SUMMARY

When editing a long video into clips, you do a lot of zooming back and forth to
get to where you want to go. This could be remedied by allowing the timeline be
duplicated. On one timeline I'd have the view zoomed out to seek and on the
other I'd have it zoomed in to set the cut point. Since both of the timelines
would follow the cursor while the video is playing, it would allow me to easily
seek for the zoomed in timeline. As you can see in the video, I have plenty of
room for a duplicated timeline.

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/juPaQr_fUZw
When attempting to copy symlinks to something like FAT, you will be unable to
do so. If I try to copy the files in masses this poses a problem as I would
need to hunt down the symlink from the mass of files. To this I propose that
when copying a symlink the dialogue prompts the user to allow to copy the
target file instead of the symlink. This should probably not apply to moving
the file as the target file might have already been moved or it might take away
the target that's to be moved later in the queue.

>From what I see, this dialogue was made with bug 136746

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Copy a symlink to a FAT filesystem

OBSERVED RESULT
The dialogue prompts the user to either skip or cancel

EXPECTED RESULT
The dialogue should allow the user to also copy the symlink target in place of
the symlink

Yes, as the attachment shows they are very samey, which is why I requested to
add the port type to the displayed name in the applet.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 191632] It should be easier to add a template to "Create New..." menu (e.g. look into ~/Templates)

2024-02-13 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191632

Further comment on the usability of the templates folder. It probably should
allow for creating template folders as well. As in the function that searches
the ~/Templates folder for menu entries shouldn't do it recursively. Instead it
lists each top level folder as a folder structure template that you can deploy
anywhere. This could be useful for initializing custom project folder
structures.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 477670] KDEConnect is unable to connect to paired devices after sleep

2024-02-16 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477670

I think I found the root cause: Interrupted wifi connection. I can create the
same issue by switching wifi connections. You need to make a connection between
devices, swap to a different wifi connection for about >30 seconds and then
connect back to the original. Now the PC will be unable to connect to the
phone. Turning the connection off on the PC will cause issues but not replicate
the issue fully like for example remote input not working while ping does.

It would be nice if the prompt would show up when right clicking on folders
owned by other users. I have a waydroid folder in ~/.local/share/waydroid/data,
some of the files are owned by the waydroid user and some of those have limited
permissions for others. I would like to be able to access these files straight
from the file browser

If I change folder permissions of a folder I've already visited from the
terminal and then try to create a file inside it, the GUI either doesn't allow
me to do things I have permissions for or allows me to start doing things I

5. Reopen Dolphin
6. Visit that folder again
7. Remove write permissions to that folder from the user
8. Attempt to add a file to that folder

OBSERVED RESULTS
Right click menu appears as if I could create a file but Dolphin returns
"Access denied" after finishing the file creation dialogue

I can agree with those arguments. The "Details" tab is probably the best place
for this information. We should probably primarily use the new wi-fi naming
scheme. As in either use "Wi-Fi 6" or "Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)"

After giving it some thought overnight, I came to the conclusion that maybe
using a combined string like "Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)" would be beneficial.

For starters there are many, many, many devices that still use and are in
production that use the lettering naming scheme. OpenWRT for example, despite
being open source, still uses letters to set the wi-fi generation for a radio.

Secondly it would allow power user to create the mental connection between the
naming schemes by always seeing them next to each other.

SUMMARY

I feel that the default shortcut for Mouse Mark overlaps with the default
hotkey for rectangular screenshot too much. Currently Mouse Mark is done with
Ctrl+Shift+Mouse Move while Rectangular screenshot is Ctrl+Shift+PrintScreen.
This can lead to situations where a small movement of the mouse can leave a
smidge on the screen right before trying to take a shot. In the demonstrative
video I demonstrate it with bug 485619 to exaggarate the effect, but even a
small smidge could be annoying.
I propose that the binding should be moved to Ctrl+Shift+Mouse Click+Drag

script, it will cause Kwin to freeze completely. Sometimes it recovers after a
few seconds and renders the game and Steam invisible and sometimes it will
never recover. If I do the main monitor, nothing out of the ordinary happens

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install and activate Polonium
2. Move Steam to a secondary monitor
3. Make sure Serious Sam 3 is set to launch natively and not through Proton
4. Open Serious Sam 3 in Steam

OBSERVED RESULT
Kwin freezes completely

EXPECTED RESULT
No freeze should happen

I'm using wayland and it does not happen without Polonium. I recorded a
recreation of what I would do to trigger the freeze but without Polonium so
that there's some repro steps in video form: https://youtu.be/HadTzhOa00U

I was about to make a new bug report but there already exists one. I'll just
copypaste it all here

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/RvEb-IFA-c8
If I create a new wireguard interface with minimal configuration, the setup
will error out at the last moment because the default interface name contains
invalid characters. I assume the error is referring to the spaces. This is
especially infuriating if you've spent the setup setting up all the
configurations instead of doing them after the interface is established because
now you've got to do it all again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start creating a new wireguard interface
2. Fill out the bare necessities and don't change anything
3. Save

OBSERVED RESULT
The configurator errors out claiming there's an invalid character in the name

EXPECTED RESULT
The name should allow for spaces

I can still crash kwin-wayland by running
krfb-virtualmonitor --resolution 1920x1080 --name Virtual --password asd --port
5900
then interupting it with Ctrl+C and running the command again.

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujYLWQ2uelU
This is not possible to reliably reproduce. I had to go back and forth for
about 2 minutes in the demonstrative video to get it to repro and I haven't
been able to capture it on video ever since.
If you try to pair with an unreachable device, connect that device back to the
network and send a pair request back, you might cause the app to freeze. I
produced the coredump with SIGQUIT.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect a phone and a PC to the same network so that they see each other but
don't pair
2. Disconnect the phone from the wifi
3. Attempt to pair with the PC
4. Reconnect the phone to the wifi
5. Attempt to pair the phone

OBSERVED RESULT
The application might sometimes freeze unrecoverably

EXPECTED RESULT
No freeze should occur

Currently to add an item to the start menu you need to add a .desktop entry to
~/.local/share/applications/. It would be easier to just drag it into the start
menu.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Take a .desktop file to the Desktop

The desktop entry should get added to the start menu. In other words the file

cause krfb-virtualmonitor to crash nor can I use it to crash plasmashell.

does it crash plasmashell but this persists.

Still an issue. I already froze my PC once for going OOM. The memory
reservation also lags the application.
Here's a demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/HtzUjkowq9o

The window size seems to affect how much memory the application is using. At
minimum size it's barely noticeable but at full screen it can hog all of the
RAM.
