I too would like to express my desire to have easy to create templates in the
~/Templates folder.
Keep ~/.local/share/templates and /usr/share/templates as they are (as in they
require a .desktop file) if changing that would break things and make the
~/Templates folder be as easy as it is on XFCE. Similar to this video:

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/_We4wPeVtGU
Replicated on SteamOS 3.5.13

When you have a lot of flatpak updates in Discover, it is possible to stall the
update process by chancing the wifi connection during download. It's easier to
replicate on slower connections. I don't have a way to easily test this with
stable or beta releases so I don't know if it's fixed already

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Accumulate lots of updates
2. Start the update process
3. Change your wifi connection

OBSERVED RESULT
Most of the updates will freeze

EXPECTED RESULT
The update should continue where it left off

[kwin] [Bug 480862] New: Unable to assign numpad keys to shortcuts on Wayland

2024-02-04 Thread Antti Savolainen

  Reporter: antti.s...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/1m03xlR4YdM
Thanks to the recent patches, it is now possible to use the numpad keys in
shortcuts. bug 453423, bug 446389, bug 480169. This sadly only works if those
shortcuts are preassigned in X11 as assigning them doesn't seem to be possible
on Wayland. When attempting to assign a modifier key+numpad combination, the
assigning system interprets that as a top row number. If you try to assign a
numpad number without any modifiers, the menu just won't accept it as input.
bug 430126 and bug 433698 are possibly related as Petr commented over there
that they replicated it on Debian.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to assign a numpad key to a shortcut

OBSERVED RESULT
Either the menu won't let you or it interprets it as a toprow number

EXPECTED RESULT
Numpad keys should be assigned

By default Ctrl+clicking a file path does not open them. If you enable the
"Underline files" setting, that is found in Settings -> Configure Konsole... ->

SUMMARY
For my eye, the Margins Separator widget wastes way too much space. There used

adjust that.

So I created another VM with minimal localization. I put localtime as
/usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Central, generated only en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8, set
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 and LANGUAGE=en_US in locale.conf and I was able to generate a
state where the the nudge didn't happen. The font was also slightly different
from what I have in my host machine so that might be why you weren't able to
reproduce it. I have no idea why the system would show a different font despite
both of us selecting the same option. I was able to get back into the bugged
state by going in System Settings -> Regional Settings -> Formats and just
swapping the Region around.

I'd like to chime in on this feature request. It would be nice to have all of

use an app specifically made to send a Wake on Lan request from my phone. My
suggestion would be to have "Wake on Lan" menu option behind the hamburger
button which brings up all the remembered devices.

SUMMARY
Would it be possible to have an option to display the timezone code in timezone

me since most event start announcements on the internet are displayed as a

easier to search for.

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Example with pipewire: https://youtu.be/ZMZCQaLHfmo
Example with pulseaudio: https://youtu.be/StfgM4CZDVo
On the current arch version of pipewire, the system finds no available
audiosinks on my system. Not even virtual. For some reason Kdialog is tied to
it.
I feel this might be a problem with something deeper as the same sort of freeze
can be seen when trying to play any video. The video freezes for a long time
before finally proceeding without sound.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install a version of pipewire where no audiosinks are detected (for me
libpipewire 0.3.24)
2. Download an image
3. Download the image again where you name it the same

OBSERVED RESULT
The "Overwrite file" dialogue freezes and so does any resulting "window is not
responding" dialogue.

EXPECTED RESULT
Window should not freeze

I forgot to comment earlier that I got a tip elsewhere. The bug is probably
tied to the error sound that rings when kdialog appears. Since it seems that
the window rendering doesn't happen before the sound is played, the window
waits for the audio system until it fails.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 428023] New: RemoteControl app sends the mouse click event at the end of a drag when controlling another PC

2020-10-20 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428023

Bug ID: 428023
Summary: RemoteControl app sends the mouse click event at the
end of a drag when controlling another PC
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: 1.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: plasmoid
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: antti.s...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When using the RemoteControl app to move the mouse, you need to click and drag
on the empty space to send the mouse movement to the other PC. The problem is
that it sends the mouse up event at the end of the drag. This only applies to
the left button click. Right and middle buttons are unaffected

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have your KDEConnect be a connection between two PCs
2. Use the RemoteControl app to move the remote mouse
3. Drag it on top of a youtube video for example and end it on it

OBSERVED RESULT
The video starts/stops at the mouse up event

EXPECTED RESULT
Only mouse movement should be sent as the clicks have their dedicated UI
buttons.

[dolphin] [Bug 426153] Add a drilldown functionality

2020-11-07 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426153

I found a good use case to justify this feature:
When browsing `/usr/share/icons/hicolor/` for icons, you have several folders
and some programs only put icons in one or two folders. If you want to find the
source file of a certain icon you find in in the system icon browser, you have
look through a massive amounts of folders. Here's where drill down comes in
handy. It opens all of the folders at the same time and you can easily browse
those icons with your eyes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 479879] New: Keyboard brightness controls with stepped values allows scrolling in between values

2024-01-15 Thread Antti Savolainen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479879

Bug ID: 479879
Summary: Keyboard brightness controls with stepped values
allows scrolling in between values
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.10
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Brightness Control
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: antti.s...@gmail.com
CC: natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/k41rchftoWg
If you have a backlit keyboard like the one in Thinkpad T470s, its brightness
controls show up in the brightness control applet. The backlight is however
stepped as in it's either off, dim or full as the brightness control shows.
When dragging the slider with a mouse it works as expected but if you hover
over it and use the trackpad to scroll, the slider goes to in-between values.
This is purely cosmetic as it only affects the backlight when it hits one of
the steps.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a backlit keyboard with set brightness levels
2. Open the brightness control applet
3. Hover your mouse over the keyboard brightness controls and use mouse scroll

OBSERVED RESULT
The controls goes in-between the steps

EXPECTED RESULT
Scrolling should cause the control to hop to the next step

SUMMARY
***
Reopening an alt-tabbed Apex Legends game can crash kwin_wayland. Previously
when I did this, the game itself crashed and it froze the desktop for a couple
of seconds but after setting PROTON_LOG=1 the game took kwin_wayland with it.
It takes quite a while, a couple of games and many alt-tabs to repro this. The
most opportune time to alt-tab seems to be in the pick screen and then
connecting back when the dropship is in view.
Backtrace seems to point here:
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/blob/v5.27.6/src/libkwineffects/kwinanimationeffect.cpp#L735

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set PROTON_LOG=1 in steam for Apex Legends
2. Play the game, occasionally alt-tabbing to the desktop

OBSERVED RESULT
Crash after about 5 games played

The issue is simply that the unmaximized windows aren't clamped to the size of

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ickDqRwjwRg
When I connect to another computer with sftp, all of the files are renameable
according to the context menu. If I press enter to submit the new name, I get
an access error but the name stays displayed on the file. Neither of these
should be happening

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect to another computer with sftp
2. Edit a filename that you don't have write permissions to

OBSERVED RESULT
The rename button is not greyed out like it is locally and after getting an
"Access denied" error, the name edited name stays displayed

EXPECTED RESULT
Editing the name should not be possible if you do not have permissions but
also, the name should revert to original after getting the error as a backup
method.

It is annoying to open an application that requires you to open the KDE wallet
simultaneously with something that steals focus multiple times like Steam. To
remedy this, I propose that graphical password authenticators like the KDE
Wallet service and pkexec set focus stealing prevention to extreme when in
focus.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open something that requires you to input any sort of password in a GUI
2. Open Steam or some other application that steals focus several times
3. Type your password while the focus stealer is booting up

OBSERVED RESULT
You get constantly interrupted

EXPECTED RESULT
Password prompts should always stay in focus

2023-11-28 Thread Antti Savolainen

Classification: Applications

   Version: 23.08.3
  Platform: Arch Linux

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: antti.s...@gmail.com
CC: andrew.g.r.hol...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If I close my laptop lid for a few minutes and then open it, KDEConnect will be
unable to reconnect to any of its paired devices. It doesn't seem to happen
with a quick few seconds sleep but keeping it in sleep for 10 minutes, it
stopped working. I have not tested any shorter time frame so I do not know what
the lower bound is. I did some tests a week ago, so I might misremember, but
new devices were possible to pair even after the bug happened.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start your laptop
2. Check that KDEConnect sees the other devices
3. Close the lid and put the laptop to sleep mode. 10 minutes is enough
4. Open your laptop and check KDEConnect

OBSERVED RESULT
None of the prepaired devices are reachable

EXPECTED RESULT
The devices should be reachable after sleep

SUMMARY
Demonstrative video: https://youtu.be/LSTXQOz_8H8
If I search for a file, try to rename it to something that already exists in
the folder but doesn't show up in the search results and hit cancel in the
dialogue, the filename sticks visually in Dolphin without affecting the
underlying filesystem. I also showed in the demonstrative video that this bug
does not happen if the conflicting file is present in the search view.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create two files in the same folder
2. Search for one of them without the other appearing in the results
3. Try to rename the file to the one that did not appear
4. Click cancel

OBSERVED RESULT
The filename sticks visually without affecting the name in the filesystem

EXPECTED RESULT
The filename should revert to the original

For future reference, it seems that a less nuanced way of achieving this
already exists in the KDE settings. In Applications -> Legacy X11 App Support
you can allow legacy apps to read key inputs. This sadly doesn't allow you to
set specific keys as allowed and mouse forward and backward do not get passed.

Many programs will probably never support the builtin global shortcuts of
Plasma. The bridge this gap with programs like OBS, I wish to have an option to
send any keypress to an application. As far as I know, hyprland does have
already implement this sort of functionality

Yep. Start/Stop OBS while in a fullscreen application for example. Make it so
that kwin passes only the keys the user has explicitly specified to the
specified program and none else.

I'm thinking maybe make the functionality a bit more obscure to find. An
"Advanced Options" button in the shortcuts menu which only appears if you
install and additional package. This way developers will be less likely to
start relying on it.

Finally getting back to this. I found the cause of the issue. If the
unmaximized size is stretched to the full screen of the larger screen, the
window will go over the edges on the smaller screen if opened on that. This
happens on wayland as well.

I think the solution should be that the unmaximized size of a window should be
clamped to the maximum available space on that window

SUMMARY
I am using Polonium to automatically tile my windows with kwin tiling. After a
recent patch it integrated quick tiling into itself. When dragging firefox from
one monitor to another, it crashes kwin_wayland completely. No other program
does this. I assume this happens because it tries to quicktile the window when
dragging it to the edge of a screen. This is also not a 100% repro rate. Some
specific layouts need to happen first which I have not figured out.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use polonium to tile windows
2. Get polonium to a certain unknown state
3. Drag a firefox window between two screens

OBSERVED RESULT
kwin_wayland crashes

EXPECTED RESULT
No crash

So it seems that only .desktop files inside another folder inside

cause the loop.
