Re: Call for attendees - LaKademy 2017

2016-10-15 Thread Aracele Torres
We had already announced before and now we came here again to remember: the
next edition of LaKademy, will occur from April 28 to May 1, 2017 in the
Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte.

It's a great opportunity for the integration of KDE contributors from all
over Latin America, providing space for the exchange of ideas on projects
and initiatives among members, to discuss the future of KDE and plan future
actions in Latin America, in addition to presenting the project to
potential new contributors.

Therefore, we would like to invite all contributors in Latin America to
join us in this event. Imagine a room full of KDE contributors joining
forces to work on this project that is so dear to us all!

We will have hacking sessions and other meetings to discuss and work on
specific issues of the community. And if you're coming for the first time,
don't worry, you'll learn many practical ways to colaborate with KDE.

But, in order to organize the event, we need to know who's coming. So,
please fill in the form we created, if you have interest in participate.
This way we can estimate our expenses.

You'll have to enter your personal data, date of arrival / departure and costs
of your trip and accommodation (if needed). Remember KDE e.V. can afford
these costs, but this will depend on the amount and how active / you are in
the KDE community.

Want to join? Then make your registration! This form will be available
until the beginning of November. If you are interested in participate,
please fill in as soon as possible:

Nice to hear from you, Sanchit, and welcome. Easy "bite-sized" bugs
can be found at http://bugs.kde.org/jj

One of the resources we have for beginning developers is the KDE
guidel: http://flossmanuals.net/kde-guide/ . I hope you find it
useful, although some parts are a bit out-dated.

All the best,

Valorie

Hello World

2016-10-15 Thread Sanchit Bansal
Hello

I am a enthusiastic open source developer ( github : voidestructor ) and I
want to start contributing with KDE. I have registered for a account and
read the guidelines, but can someone here point me to some issues/bugs
which need solving. Also if anything else that I should know before I start
contributing ?

Thanks

Waiting for reply

Re: Happy 20th Birthday, KDE!

2016-10-15 Thread Eike Hein

I'm proud of:

* Collectively making tons of software that has real users. I consider
my profession as an engineer to be a tool-maker who enables others; our
line of operation is to build civilization and facilitate culture.
Making and shipping software that people use is the most concrete way we
do this, though not the only one.

* Doing it in the open. Source code is a powerful way to write down
knowledge in a form that's not just readable but also executable by
those it's given to. It's a way to communicate ideas in a form that,
unlike with plain communication, enables testing the idea, building on
it and re-testing it. Code is one of the richest forms of communication
humans have come up with to date, and we're at the forefront of helping
us realize this and reap the advantages.

* Providing hundreds of engineers, designers, artists, writers,
organizers and many others an environment in which to do interesting and
relevant work, safe with the knowledge that their work can't be hidden
and won't screw anyone over.

* Helping everyone who comes into contact with our community to increase
their knowledge and hone their skills, and apply those gains to bigger
problems both in KDE and elsewhere.

* Having a strong effect on the industry we're part of through licensing
choices, exemplary workflow and tooling choices.

* Figuring out how to make all of these effects last; scaling not just
in size, but across time. Having achieved a multi-generational community.

As always, what I'm most excited about is the stuff I'm working on right
now, and how it will make the thing it's a part of better than before :).

Cheers,
Eike

I've written in detail in my blog post.
To conclude briefly, I'm very proud to have organized the conf.kde.in
in Southern India and am also proud of the work some of the newcomers,
whom I had a chance to help initially, are putting in.
I'm really exicted about new and upcoming projects and excited by the
work being done by the plasma team on their respective projects.

Cheers,
