[kde-freebsd] ksmserver: WARNING: SmsDie timeout, client ... on shutdown of KDE

2008-07-20 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

Sometimes when I shutdown KDE (3.5.8 on FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE) it takes a
few seconds (let's say 15-20) to come down to the shell prompt where it was
started with 'startx'; related to this seem the lines in STDERR:

ksmserver: WARNING: SmsDie timeout, client
kwin(1074696e790001214158701006178)
ksmserver: WARNING: SmsDie timeout, client
knotify(1074696e7900012165001430007510013)
ksmserver: WARNING: SmsDie WM timeout
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 1336, errno = 0
startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.

What is causing this 'SmsDie timeout'? Where to look? Thx

matthias

[kde-freebsd] mouse working but no cursor???

2008-07-20 Thread david
Hi

I have just completed a System upgrade from 6.3 to 7.0. Immediately after
the upgrade kde3 worked fine. Then upgraded the ports portupgrade -fa and
had a few problems with xorg which failed with the dcopserver message.

I recompiled a load of ports using portupgrade -frR including the kde
hierachy. kde now loads but leaves me with one curiosity. The mouse works
but shows no cursor on the screen. Console whows a flashing cursor but all
other apps do not show a cursor but if one navigates the mouse and guess the
position correctly, all clicks work properly.

It would be nice to restore the cursor!!
7.0-Stable #0: Wed July 16 09:27:38 2008 GENERIC amd64

Thanks in advance

Re: [kde-freebsd] black screens with KDE 4.0.98

The mouse click takes down the login screen. Nothing else is up yet, so you
only see the black screen. On first login it can take a long time to come up,
so you might have bailed before it was finished.

However, I do have a bugged logged against KWin [bug 163829], that it won't
start if I log in from a KDE3 kdm login manager. I haven't seen it recently,
so maybe it has been fixed. But I am keeping it open a while longer to make
sure. Perhaps this is what you are seeing if nothing comes up after waiting a
long time.

 I'm running KDE4 as test user kde4 on FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE i386. I do get a
lot of messages from kded about KDirWatchPrivate on the console.

Could you post startkde output? You can run startkde
as 'sh -v /usr/local/kde4/bin/startkde' to get more info where the startkde
stops.

[kde-freebsd] I need a small favor

2008-07-20 Thread Conrad J. Sabatier
Hi there, Jim,

I was wondering if I might ask a small favor of you. If I remember
correctly, you said your laptop had a built-in camera, doesn't it?
Would you mind very much if I came by and just took a quick picture or
two of myself, so I'd have something I could upload to the guys on these
personals websites I've been visiting? Nothing pornographic, just a
simple portrait-type shot. :-) Right now, I have no pictures of
myself at all, hardcopy or otherwise, and I do think I'd have a much
better chance of getting some results from these sites if I had something
to show, you know?

Please let me know if this would be OK with you. I'd be forever
grateful! :-)

Thanks in advance,

Conrad
