Adding the following to /etc/rc.config seems to fix the problem:

moused_nondefault_enable="NO"

Moused doesn't seem to be playing very nicely with kde4 and disabling it on 
startup results in no mouse in KDE. If I start with it disabled I have to 
restart dbus, hald and then moused to get things working again. Time to track 
down the committer and have a chat.

Yes, including xterm. This only seems to affect KDE. It started on this 
machine before I updated to -current. I have rebuilt everything, but the 
problem remains.

Moused is not set in rc.conf, but it seems that it's now started by default. 
Killing the process results in also losing the mouse in KDE4.

can you please show the output of `which make` and `which gmake`?
  
That was in my original post.  /usr/bin/make and /usr/local/bin/gmake, 
and they are both in the PATH.

I remember a guy using KDE on Mac complain about this, but I wasn't able
to reproduce it here (gcc46). What compiler were you using?
