Hey, I feel your pain.

I was able to do some hacking to get kmail2 working for me. I keep meaning to
submit a bug report to ports... I 've discussed what I did here on the list
but a bug report would probably be best. (If you haven't seen it,
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-freebsd/2012-May/013203.html )

I've put that read timeout to 8 hrs now. And I gotta say, with the database
connections staying stable I really, really like kmail2. It's quicker then the
old kmail. It's nice to have korganizer working again too.

Cheers,
DMK

Please note that while KMail2 does seem to have its fair share of
problems, the descriptions you gave here are not very precise, and are
better suited for a list read by the kdepim folks themselves (such as
kdepim-user). And if you manage to find some reproducible bugs, please
report them via https://bugs.kde.org

I'm sticking with old kdepim44 too, kmail2 is just not ready for serious
usage yet. BTW installing x11/kde4 don't pull kdepim4, but only kdepim44.
It looks like akonadi dont work very well with internal mysql server, so I
just configure it to use external mysql, which anyway run on my desktop.

OT. Anyone tried running full clang compiled base+kde4 maybe ?
Here everything is compiling fine with little ports options tweaking, but
I did not manage getting nepomuk to run + some other minor apps crashes, so
I'm sticking with built-in gcc atm.

Best regards

I did what I red in /usr/ports/UPDATING
and I am using the old kmail still:
20120525:
  AFFECTS: users of deskutils/kdepim4, deskutils/kdepim4-runtime
  AUTHOR: k...@freebsd.org

kdepim4 has been updated to 4.8.3. For those who prefer old
kdepim-4.4.11.1 deskutils/kdepim44* ports have been added.
To stay with kdepim-4.4.11.1 run the following commands:

  # portmaster -o deskutils/kdepim44-runtime kdepim-runtime-4\*
  # portmaster -o deskutils/kdepim44 kdepim-4\*

BTW: I am thinking to start using Thunderbird.

[kde-freebsd] kmail2 disaster ... kdepim back to alpha stage?

2012-06-09 Thread JoaoBR

I have no idea how some can substitute an email client with a new one,
when it is still not working (=unusable)

said that, somebody has an idea what I can do?

after upgrade to kde-4.8 from ports without particular tweaks, kmail2
comes up and asked for converting existing mail structure, I confirmed,
dialog disappeared and no further response came up

then when I start kmail2, imap identities are visible in settings, in
accounts only appear local floders but with advice "No usable storage
location configured"

In Kmail panels appears nothing (all white) but Local Folders

my former kmail folders and accounts settings are in their former default
locations under ~/.kde4/
