E.g. `truss -o /tmp/log okular foo.pdf` and then quitting it; afterwards `grep bookmark /tmp/log | grep access`. Filtering out the ERR#2 lines shows it loading (e.g.) /usr/local/share/icons/breeze/actions/32/bookmarks.svg . It *also* shows accessing the hicolor directories. I've tried all the environment variables listed here in an attempt to get the icons to fail .. no luck. I always get the icons for Thumbnails, Reviews, Bookmarks from breeze. Even tried switching to a pure xmonad system (removed twm, reinstalled xorg, installed hs-xmonad) .. still works. Berner --- My guess is still that it requires breeze + some environment variable (as it is run outside of KDE, Qt needs to be told what theme it is). The interesting part here is too, that the fallback path for you seems to be /usr/share/icon instead of /usr/local/share/icons.
