Sorry for missing the Kdenlive café

2017-10-31 Thread Massimo Stella
Dear friends,
I'm very sorry I missed the yesterday night Kdenlive café.
I was finally able to read the notes page this morning to stay updated.
I hope that soon my life can go back to some sort of "normality" (I'm always
travelling for the job recently) and to be able to participate more in the
community.
Actually, I think I'll be able to be more helpful once the refactoring will be
completed so that the new features will be implemented.
I remind you that I'm always at disposition for every contribution to the
project you can think I can give and, as usual, it'll be my duty to arrange the
next 2 Kdenlive cafés soon.
I apologize again and see you soon.

Massimo.

Kdenlive.

If you could not attend, you will find a resume and the full log here:

https://notes.kde.org/public/kdenlive-cafe13

Our next café will be on wednesday, 22nd of february 2017, at 9pm (CET).

the Kedenlive café # 14, so, the final selected dates are:

Ogg: Kdenlive café selected dates

Dear friends,
We finally have the selected dates for the next kdenlive cafés:
#13 January Tuesday 24
#14 February Tuesday 21
I'm sad to say that on the february's chat we'll probably miss Farid, but we
have not a date where both Farid and François could partecipate.
So the options are:
or day Tuesday 21 without Farid or Wednsday 22 without François.
I just selected the 21 because François filled the poll first but I'd like that
we decide it together also for understanding if there is a way to fix this
issue.
I'm waiting for updates.
Thanks in advance.

Massimo.

Kdenlive café

2017-01-03 Thread Massimo Stella

Dear friends,

It was supposed that today I communicate the new selected dates for
the next Kdenlive café #13 and 14 but at today, probably because of
holidays, nobody filled the form at this link:

https://dudle.inf.tu-dresden.de/kedenlivecafe13and14/

Please do it asap, before the week end, so I'll be able to arrange it.

Happy new year to everybody.

Massimo.

Kdenlive café #13 and #14 dates selection

2016-12-23 Thread Massimo Stella
Dear friends,
after I read the words Farid wrote, I felt a little sorry for not being
able to to partecipate as I did before, after I quitted Italy.
But, I'm also very happy for the results the community achieved during
the last year:
a lot of new features, improved stability and a deep debugging cycles,
the new easy ways for installing the application and the always closer
port to Windows.
All these developments are making our community bigger and I'm pretty
sure that after Kdenlive will run smoothly on Windows, it'll grow a lot
in a very short time.
I'm also very happy that during the last 2 Kdenlive cafés Jean-Baptiste
decided to rewrite the timeline.
So, soon we'll have a debugged timeline and probably 2 important
features like advanced trimming and single track transitions and an open
door to the multicam editing and the timeline nesting in the next future.
I strongly believe that when all the 6 main features which still miss
will be completed and Kdenlive will be as professional as AVID, Premiere
and FCP, a lot of professionals will adopt it as main video editor in
their workflows.
As I believe that the kdenlive cafés helped a lot in all these
developments, I invite you to fill the selection dates pool for our next
meetings:

https://dudle.inf.tu-dresden.de/kedenlivecafe13and14/

I will communicate the selected dates on the 3rd of January 2017.
"See" you soon and happy end of the year.

Massimo.

Kdenlive café 11 and 12

2016-10-31 Thread Massimo Stella
Dear friends,
I'm always abroad and for this reason I'm partecipating less than before to our
project but it is not always too easy for me to do it in the situation I'm now.
Anyway, Kdenlive café has to go forward and I prepared the page for selecting
the dates of the next Kdelive cafés #11 and # 12:
https://dudle.inf.tu-dresden.de/kedenlivecafe11and12/

Please apply to it before Sunday November 6.

See you soon.

Massimo.

Re: next kdenlive café #10

2016-10-19 Thread Jesse DuBord
Sounds good, Farid. Thanks for brainstorming the talking points. One
thing I'm always curious about is moderation in the hand-full of cafes
I've attended. Is there a moderator to guide the off-topic discussions?
Should there be? Can't the IRC channel header be changed to match the
topic of discussion? Might this be a good way of going about it?

Thanks all. See ya in an hour or so!

Re: [kdenlive] Catching discussions from Kdenlive café #7

2016-06-18 Thread Jesse DuBord
I respectfully disagree on same look everywhere. I use the breeze dark
theme on my desktop, and expect ALL my applications to have that theme
applied. Someone else might prefer a different theme for their desktop,
and expect that theme to be everywhere. Like it or not, desktops have
themes, and there are as many variations as there are people using them.
Even something as simple as layout... what I prefer is completely
different from what you prefer. The beauty of kdenlive today it that it
is _configurable_, so that you can get the look and layout that you
want, and I can get the look and layout that _I_ want, and everybody is
happy. Evert, I definitely understand where you're coming from. Themes
are awesome! I remember back with XP on a laptop then I was a teen, and
being able to customize the look for the first time. To make it my own
-- that was just tops. Now GNU/Linux distros everywhere have soo much
custom possibilities. Kdenlive has the same amazing array of
customization options, thanks to JB and the team, and that's just swell.
That said, Kdenlive does have a default layout (regardless that I think
it's time for a new default layout). It does have an /intended /color
scheme that works best for the interface and keeps the user focused on
editing rather than being distracted by the empty space or wild array of
icon colors. There are two main reasons I agree with Farid that there
should be a universal *default* layout and theme across the board: (1)
Some themes seriously jack up the look of Kdenlive, to the point where
they can't even see some icons, buttons or options. A default theme
(and, preferably, a dark theme in my opinion, for various reasons) that
shows all functions, icons, etc. in a clean, professional and appealing
way seems best to me. Again, all just opinion. (2) There are very real
marketing & brand recognition purposes for a universal look. Lightworks
looks the exact same across Windows, Mac and Linux. Adobe Premiere looks
the same on Mac and Windows. It's the same with updating the desktop
icon across different distros -- recognizing Kdenlive will bring much
more unity in the community. Customize it? Absolutely! But have a
default color scheme and theme? I think that'd be more advantageous.
The biggest detractor of Kdenlive today is that it is so buggy that you
can't do any serious work on it. Of course I use the git version, so the
set up bugs keep changing, and I do bug reports as quickly as I can
ferret them out, but the list of bugs seem to be growing. At some point
we have to stop adding features for a bit and squash bugs, which will
improve the user experience much, much more than a nice set of icons.
I'd have to agree. JB and the team have made huge leaps and bound in
stability since my first encounter with Kdenlive back in 0.9.6. I still
use the git master for my professional projects, and for the most part,
it's working just fine. JB has been quick to fix my bugs reported in the
git master PPA on Ubuntu (Linux Mint, specifically), for which I'm super
grateful. But yest, I think there does need to be some considerable
focus on fixing bugs rather than new implementation of features.
Stability, in my opinion, takes priority over features. Again, just my
opinion. I know it's difficult with one main developer on a project, and
I'm sure it's felt by the dev's. Maybe there's a way we can get more
developers on board the project? A campaign of some kind? I'd be happy
to brainstorm ideas with you all on how to attract new and long-lasting
commitments to Kdenlive. That'd make things much easier: some dedicated
to fixing bugs, others to work on features, etc.

Re: [kdenlive] Catching discussions from Kdenlive café #7

2016-06-17 Thread Jesse DuBord
I completely agree with Farid about the universal interface. Preferably,
it would be great to see it all the same across distros right out of the
box, without the user needing to go into styles and themes to choose
what they think it should look like. For GNOME-based desktops, it's
almost 90% identical to Kdenlive in KDE Plasma -- the only exception I'm
seeing are the dialog boxes when opening a project or adding
clips/media (see this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360882).
However this can be set up, I think it would be a huge step towards a
more solid, positive recognition with the Kdenlive appearance; users
will know it by its look and color, you know?

Hi Vincent,

- packaging: I had already updated stable PPA to 16.04.1. For me the logics

behind PPAs is still relevant: master for dev version, testing for bugfix
as soon as they get out (16.04 branch for the moment), and stable for
releases (downloads not more than every month)

How relevant are PPA's now that Snap is launched?

- Movit: just seen on forum that the lib is sensitive to localization:
https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=269&t=132764&p=358335#p358314 worth
a try!?

I see that in Shotcut Movit causes a lot of bugs, I think we should wait
until it gets stable or add a warning to users.

- icons: that's really surprising that no script can do the job yet! What
is montel doing? ;)

Icons are messy still and this should be fixed for 16.08. We need to offer
a similar interface experience across all platforms and between different
distros. A packaging guideline should be established.

- site: I have no time for this; maybe I should handle the installation
part? (want to look at Flatpak!)

Yes,please join in :)

What are your views? Snap, Flatpak or both?

- wanted to add: Farid is asking for EDL for years... and Shotcut has just

integrated this feature! Maybe not so far for Kdenlive?

That would be a dream come true. I see Natron people have noticed this. Do
you know which EDL stardard they use?

Cheers

Hello,

Sorry for having missed last IRC meeting... and thanks for making the logs
available, I read it with great interest!
(for those who didn't: https://notes.kde.org/public/kdenlive-cafe07 )

So I wanted to react on few points that where discussed:

- GSoC progress: Joseph would be the best one to answer (no blog yet?!) he is
for the moment cross-compiling dependencies for windows from Linux through MXE
(like Krita for release 3.0). A bit late on timeline but we will adapt.
- Randa: Joseph will be there (well in the topic of the gathering!), so it
would be wonderful if he could meet Kdenlive people (I would really have loved
to be there :'( )

- packaging: I had already updated stable PPA to 16.04.1. For me the logics
behind PPAs is still relevant: master for dev version, testing for bugfix as
soon as they get out (16.04 branch for the moment), and stable for releases
(downloads not more than every month)

- workflow: that's great to have these advice; if we add so many new timeline
behaviors I was thinking refactoring this part of code was necessary... and yep
I just see JB committing on this \o/
then there will need a great effort to update documentation and tutorials with
all these changes!
+I definitely have to watch Massimo's playlist!

- Movit: just seen on forum that the lib is sensitive to localization:
https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=269&t=132764&p=358335#p358314 worth a
try!?

- icons: that's really surprising that no script can do the job yet! What is
montel doing? ;)

- site: I have no time for this; maybe I should handle the installation part?
(want to look at Flatpak!)

- simple bugs: in general, triaging is always of great help (getting rid of KDE4 -v0.9.x-
reports, checking if not because of weird MLT/FFmpeg install, if not already fixed;
providing example). wegwerf is already helping, but marking "simple" is a dev
job...

- wanted to add: Farid is asking for EDL for years... and Shotcut has just
integrated this feature! Maybe not so far for Kdenlive?

That's it, hope to participate in live next time!

Cheers,

Vincent

Hi all,

I would like to make a suggestion for us to organize the meeting by
defining some of the topics here in the mailing list so we can stay focused
on the subject during the cafés.

My topic suggestions are:

- Website (Find a solution)
- What's next (Roadmap)
- Communication Team (Social Networks, Community, News updates (marketing?))

See you there!

Thanks Massimo for taking care of the poll. I will make an announcement
next week for the cafés. Also wanted to let you know that I have been
working on adding the HD luma files you created, but it will require some
changes to the way Kdenlive handles Luma files, so that it automatically
selects the more appropriate resolution depending on your project's
profile.

I have prepared the change but don't want to make is so close to release,
so it will go in the master branch, and be in 16.08 release (maybe we can
backport for 16.04.1 if really necessary). I have not yet been able to
commit the change to master due to some config problem on KDE's git server,
I am waiting for an answer from the sysadmin, but this is definitely in
progress!

[kdenlive] 4th Kdenlive café on next friday.

2016-03-21 Thread maxs...@tin.it
 Hi guys.

I just want to remember you that on the next friday (march 25) 11am (CET) we'll
be the 4th Kdenblive cafè.

The previous 3 experiences were very good so we want to continue with another
two hours informal meeting on irc.freenode.net in channel #kdenlive.

This is an opportunity for Kdenlive developers and users to exchange
ideas, talk about how we want to see the Kdenlive project evolve and
also discuss how you can help us on that way!Hope to "see" you there!

Maybe you meant January? At least this date exits in the poll and has
the most votes.

[kdenlive] And the winners are: Kdenlive Café #1 and #2

2015-12-14 Thread Mario Fux
Good morning

So you decided and I picked ;-). The first Kdenlive Café will happen:
- on the 22nd of December 2015 at 13.00h CET (UTC+1)

in #kdenlive on on freenode.net. Occasional notes will happen in notes.kde.org
and shared afterwards here.

The second Kdenlive Café will happen:
- on the 15th of December 2015 at 11.00h CET (UTC+1)

I will blog about this in a minute. Could somebody who's more often than me in
the forums post this there at the best place.

Thanks and cu
