[Bug 159453] New: missing imap messages or empty message bodies

Summary: missing imap messages or empty message bodies
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.9.9
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs kde org
ReportedBy: alan.braslau cea fr

Version: 1.9.9 (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from:Debian testing/unstable Packages

kmail has become unstable (and unusable) since upgrade to KDE 3.8.9 (kmail
1.9.9).
- some (random yet reproducible) IMAP messages are missing, yet perfectly
readable using another email client (e.g. mutt or icedove) or even kmail on a
second computer.
- other (random yet reproducible) IMAP messages show empty message bodies, yet
again perfectly visible using another email client.

Note that kmail running on two different computers accessing the same imap
account behave differently: messages missing using one client appear on the
other and messages showing empty bodies show no problem on the other instance
of kmail running on a second computer. This thus appears to be a problem with
the IMAP cache. However, Refresh local IMAP cache has no effect.

IMAP servers are 1) local dovecot 2) remote MS/exchange 3) remote dovecot.

Again, this instability has (re)appeared since upgrading to KDE 3.8.9/kmail
1.9.9. Thus, kmail has become unreliable and therefore UNUSABLE.

The tooltips text Filter Als Spam klassifizieren and Filter Als Nicht-Spam
klassifizieren are misleading. The user expects to classifiy a Mail oder
Nachricht not a filter. So the string Filter in the tooltip text should be
replaced by Nachricht or Mail. The work is done by applying a filter but
most users i think are not interested in technical details how a Mail is
marked as junk by a filter or an intelligent tigercat or electricity.

Summary: create new calendar event from mail (not only to-do)

Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-2.6.24.3.slh.6-sidux-686

With KDE 3.5.9 it is now possible to create a task by rightclicking on a mail
or choosing the action from the toolbar. But that only creates a to-do entry,
not a calendar event. How about also adding the option to create an appointment
from a mail this way? By accident I realized that I can drag a mail to the
calendar part icon to create an event (which is a good feature) but I'd expect
a consistent behaviour, especially in an enterprise version, and creating an
event is as important as creating a task so it also should be accessible the
same way/s.

Installed from:Compiled sources
OS:Linux

I have set kwallet to use no password, i.e. if kmail starts-up and queries
kwallet I get the Do you want to allow access to kmail: Once, never, etc..

If I wait for some time and do not click any of the buttons, kmail opens its
own password dialogue, asking for the password of each account with an empty
line for the password. the kwallet dialogue is still open too of course.

Expected behaviour: Wait until the user has done something with the kwallet
dialogue.

Version:(using KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from:SuSE RPMs

I used LANG=en_US for a long time, now I upgraded to :-)
LANG=en_US.ISO-8859-2 and I noticed that this affected KMail folder sorting. No
longer a is before Z -- now sorting is case sensitive.

Please use common-sense sorting for ISO-8859-2 too. Btw. I am not thinking if
ą is before Ż or anything like that -- plain, ASCII-7 alphabet characters, a,
b, c.., A, B ... Z.

[Bug 159493] New: it's not possible to navigate with the keyboard cursor keys in mail list and folder list

Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-2.6.24.3.slh.6-sidux-686

Often it is quicker to navigate in applications with the keyboard instead of
with the mouse, especially when you in any case have to use the keyboard to
write text. Kmail is one of those programs.

When I click into the folder list I expect to be able to scroll up and down by
using the cursor keys. When I click into the mail list I expect to be able to
scroll it with the cursor keys too. But both does not work, instead of that the
mail in the mail preview window is scrolling. When I want to scroll the mail
I'd first click into its window (or use tab to activate it). At least other
programs with divided window handle the internal navigation this way
(thunderbird, quanta, kooka - just to mention a few).

Now that kmail has become an enterprise capable version I'd expect even more to
have a consistent behaviour and to honor those fast typers - and those who have
difficulties or don't like to use the mouse for everything. I'd consider it to
be a bug not to be able to scroll through my kmail folder list and the list of
mails with the keyboard cursor keys, but as I assume it is a feature/intended
behaviour I mark it as wishlist entry.

Hello,

I'm not familiar with backtraces so I
did the quick and dirty thing which is
to run kontact at the command line and
cut and paste the before and after command
line text.

See below.

I can learn how to do a backtrace as well
if you'd like me to.

Just thought I try the quick and dirty thing
first for the sake of immediacy.

Again, see below.

Kind regards,
