And I may be > wrong when I say its due to xx feature of scim, as I said I am no dev. Maybe it's simply a bug in scim/the qt scim brigde, and not a weird feature. I guess scim needed to be adjusted to Qt4 and there are now some bugs with that, only triggered in special circumstances (but probably not the fault of the application). I would really report the problem to them. I use scim-bridge for Hindi language input, and after I enabled scim in the new new account and loggeg out and logged back in , this bug shows up again. Also I verified this by disabling scim for QT, and the bug goes away. This is caused by the fact (in my opinion that is!!..I am no programmer) that the text which vanishes is selected on opening the dialog , and scim has the feature of pre-embed string in the window, and the string is blank before I type anything, so it pre-embeds the blank string and hence the vanish-after-appearing-momentarily selected-behaviour is seen. So I propose that the devs please fix this by having the text not-selected auto on opening a dialog. A few things though. When working on low-resolution displays (ultraportable laptops and so on) the default layout with the folder list, the message listing, and the message content all on-screen at the same time, is quite simply too large. Especially when having lots of folders and deeply nested threads. Disabling the message preview pane helps, but then you need to open all messages in new windows to read them, and having lots of windows sucks. I grew quite fond of how Gnus handles this. It starts you up in a screen which is only the folder list. Find the folder you want, and you enter it. The next screen is only the message list. Select a message, and that's what's get shown (actually here I can't quite remember if the screen was split vertically with the minor part of it being the message list). Go back/up and you're again in the full-screen message list. Another back/up and you're in the folder list. Of course hotkeys like next (unread) message, next (unread) folder, etc. continue working even in the innermost (message) UI level. Also mutt works this way except for the fact that it doesn't have a useful upper level (folder listing). Claws-Mail has a «small screen» layout that partly implements this too (it opens messages in separate windows though). I think tabs could be made to work this way, too, if you can designate default tabs and distinguish between "open in existing tab" and "open in new tab". So if you go to the folder list and click on a folder it will open up in the existing folder-view tab, and ditto for clicking on messages in the message list. So unless you specifically ask for something to be opened in a new tab, you'll always have three tabs: "Folders", "Messages (in $FOLDER)", and "Message ($SUBJECT)". (Maybe even put "Accounts" at the top-level there.) Regards, Tore ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

[Bug 71408] KMail is not embedded in Kontact if a message window is open
--- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71408 --- Additional Comments From prlewis letterboxes org 2008-08-01 12:23 --- Okay, in the following circumstances: 1) Enable IMAP resources for the calendar 2) Start the KOrganiser reminder daemon at login - i.e. before Kontact is started (this is default behaviour). The effect is that the KOrganiser daemon loads a KMail instance to pull in its calendar data. Then when Kontact starts, it seems to detect an already running KMail, so just opens that instead (in a separate window). KMail then can't be embedded into Kontact unless all the KMail processes are first killed. If you right click on the KOrganiser daemon in the system tray and uncheck "start at login" then this problem goes away. The reminder daemon then starts and stops with Kontact. Of course, you then need to have Kontact running to get reminders, but if you (like me) keep it minimised in the system tray the whole time anyway, then this isn't an issue. [Bug 167961] New: jump to begin of message in Composer using tab after entering subject
--- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167961 Summary: jump to begin of message in Composer using tab after entering subject Product: kmail Version: unspecified Platform: unspecified OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs kde org ReportedBy: fgenauer gmx de Version:(using KDE 4.1.0) Installed from:Unlisted Binary Package OS:Linux In Kmail shipped with KDE 3.5.9 when createing a new mail the standard procedure for writing mail is 1. entering a recipient 2. pressing TAB TAB TAB TAB 3. entering the subject 4. pressing TAB 5. starting to write the mail With Kmail shipped with KDE 4.1 when hitting TAB in step 4 (so after entering the subject) the cursor jumps into the text field, but not at the beginning of the text field but the cursor is at the end of the signature. Thus I have to navigate to the beginning of the message for beeing able to start writing a mail. This is a little annoying, as previously writing mails was really easy and quick. Please adjust the behaviour to the way it has been in KDE 3.5.9. Thanks! ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs
