[Bug 170296] New: Application sometimes crashes when deleting mails (IMAP)

2008-09-02 Thread Dominik Schulz
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170296

Summary: Application sometimes crashes when deleting mails (IMAP)
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Version:(using KDE 4.1.0)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Debian testing/unstable Packages

KMail sometimes crashes when deleting multiple mails via IMAP. In this case I
did delete multiple mails at once and while they were being deleted (it took
very long, ~1sec. per mail), I did delete another mail and KMail did instantly
crash.

If I enable "show size" in kmail's settings it is not displayed int he
header-list. If I right-click the column-headers size is enabled though.
disabling and re-enabling it does solve the issue. Restarting kmail did not.

You probably have a binary attachment in your calendar someplace.
We rely on an old 3rd party library to read calendars and it doesn't like
binary attachments.

Try loading your calendar in Sunbird and saving it back out.

Then load it into KOrganizer again. That trick usually works.

The preferred way to not build an application is to pass -DBUILD_app=OFF to
cmake

In this case, you'd pass -DBUILD_akregator=OFF

We might eventually move the plugins under their associated application subdir.
We need to discuss it further.

I changed the kontact/plugins/CMakeLists.txt so BUILD_app does the right thing
there.

So I feel ok in closing this bug.

I understand, but this is a grave regression. Disappear of the inbox folder is
the worst thing that can happen... Think for a new user that see KDE 3.5.10 for
the first time. What does he/she has to think? Better use Thunderbird? I will
try to fix this bug myself if it's not to difficult and I will commit it.

Tiresome.

This feature is mandatory for a business usage... In general the composer
should be a little bit more flexible than the actual version.

In my opinion, Evolution is a good example how should be the composer.

Unlikely to be ever fixed in the 3.5 branch. There will probably be no further
3.5.x releases, and the kdepim/kmail maintainers have decided that the branch
is to be frozen with no further commits. See

I think that it could be a great improvement (more integration and less code)
the use of libplasma in the summary view in a way similar to the context view
in amarok.

There could be plasmoids to show usual infos instead of kontact plugins.

This regression is also in kmail 1.9.10 released with kde 3.5.10. Can you fix
in the 3.5 branch and then close definitively this bug? Thank you.

Okay, I did an addition test with
Kontact Version 1.2.9 (enterprise35 20080826.852422)
together with Dominiks test, I consider the issue resolved now.
