[Bug 194951] New: slow (almost unresponsive) after startup when checking for new mail when kmail already manages very many emails (100, 000)

2009-06-02 Thread Arne Babenhauserheide
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194951

Summary: slow (almost unresponsive) after startup when checking
for new mail when kmail already manages very many
emails (100,000)
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.11.3
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: arne_...@web.de

Version: 1.11.3 (using 4.2.3 (KDE 4.2.3), Gentoo)
Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.29-hh2

I have about 100,000 emails in my account (at least that's what "find
.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail says"), and when I check for new mail after kmail
started, it becomes so slow that it's almost unresponsive.

Some time after the mails are downloaded it gets back to normal (nice) speed.

Subsequent checking for new mail also has a speed penalty, but not as severe as
the first check after startup.

For me this means that I can't just fire up kmail to quickly check my mail.
Instead I have to either keep it running at all times or go fetch something to
eat/drink after telling it to check my mail (or idling in front of the
computer).

Note: "du -h .kde/share/apps/kmail/mail" reports over 3 GiB.

[Bug 194961] New: Kmain fails to open some emails and crashes if those emails are double clicked

2009-06-02 Thread jack
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194961

Summary: Kmain fails to open some emails and crashes if those
emails are double clicked
   Product: kontact
   Version: 1.4.2
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: samt...@hotmail.com

Version: 1.4.2 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

Sometime when viewing emails in kontact, emails do not display in the bottom
window for viewing despite single clicking on them. Single clicking on other
emails will display them properly, but certain ones will not. When these
certain non-displaying emails are double clicked on (in order to open them in a
separate pop up window for viewing) Kontact crashes with the following output.

Which emails cause this behavior seem to be random. However, next time this
happens I will try and find which email caused it on that occassion and paste
the html of that email here in case something in particular is triggering it.

This is a fairly frequent problem, I encounter it about three or four times a
day at the moment (with fairly heavy office use).

Application: Kontact (kontact), signal SIGABRT

[Bug 194979] New: move auto-spellcheck suggestions to the top level right click menu

2009-06-02 Thread Benjamin
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194979

Summary: move auto-spellcheck suggestions to the top level
right click menu
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: benconf...@googlemail.com

Version: 4:4.2.2-1 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Debian testing/unstable Packages

In Kmail's composer when you right click a mispelt word with the
auto-spellchecker active there is a separate submenu for suggested spellings.

Because the suggested spellings are by far the most likely thing a user is
looking for when they right click a misspelt word (it certainly is when I click
one) it would be more efficient to reorganise the menus so the suggested
spellings is at the top of the top level menu.

The backtrace of the crash is not really complete: you can do this in order to
get a more information:
Start KMail/Kontact from Konsole and when they crash, select the last part of
output on Konsole and paste it here (there should be an "ASSERT:" line).
Thanks

Recently I switched from kmail to kontact and I noticed that when I open the

like to have a common shortcut set that works in kontact and in the component
applications too, when I run them standalone.

Summary: reply button disabled in inbox if sent-folder is same
as inbox
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.11.3
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: g.kapp...@gmx.net

Version: 1.11.3 (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

in kmail <1.11.3 I had a combined inbox/sentbox and used the wonderful
threading feature of kmail to have threads of my mail conversations.
So I set my sent-box to be the same as my inbox - to spare me manual moving of
mails.

kmail=1.11.3 is disabling the reply function in the sent-box. This is kind of
reasonable - yet too restrictive to how I organize my mails. The reply function
is now unavailable in my inbox.

For now setting a separate sent-box is doing the trick. But I really would love
not to have to move mails from sent to inbox manually.

Why not enabling "reply" everywhere - the user will know what he is doing with
a function like that.

Best regards,
Gregor

[Bug 195005] HTML viewer crashed Kontacts Feeds viewer

2009-06-02 Thread Stephan Kleine
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195005

--- Comment #1 from Stephan Kleine 2009-06-02 18:34:08
---
My apologies, the description wasn't entirely correct.

It does not crash when I click on one of the little thumbnails to change the
shown picture but when I click on the big picture to close the preview window.

The URL I was viewing is Nitrogen 2.2.3 -
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Nitrogen?content=99551

Doing the same in Konqueror works just fine.

[Bug 195009] New: Link status of emails with the same message-id

2009-06-02 Thread Dennis Schridde
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195009

Summary: Link status of emails with the same message-id
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.11.90
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: linde...@gmx.net

Version: 1.11.90 (using Devel)
Installed from:Compiled sources

I would like to know whether it would be possible to link multiple messages
with the same message-id.

Example:
When one has virtual IMAP namespaces, the same email may appear in multiple
folders. Currently the user has to click/view the same email multiple times to
mark them all as unread.
It would be nice if KMail could notice that I read this message already in
another folder and display it as read in all other folders as well.

I think with the new database driven storage in Akonadi, it would be nice
addition to view emails and their states in this way, decoupled from the folder
or account they may appear in. Other benefits might be that transferring an
email from one account/folder to another becomes easier from the
application/storage point of view.

[Bug 195010] New: Cannot move messages to wastebin

2009-06-02 Thread Rafael Leal
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195010

Summary: Cannot move messages to wastebin
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.11.3
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: rakk...@gmx.com

Version: 1.11.3 (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

The same behaviour in Mandriva 2009.1 with KDE 4.2.2

When I choose a message and hit the button "Move to Wastebin", or right-click
and choose "Move to Deleted Items" or press "Del", the status bar reads
"Messages moved to wastebin successfully", but the message is not moved. It
happens with both dimap and local (from pop3) messages.

My wastebin is a local folder. I can move messages to other local folders
without any problem.

I don't know if this is relevant at all, but when kmail is opened via the
terminal, it reads constantly, every 5 seconds:

"kmail(16444)/kmail (storage internals) KMFolderIndex::openInternal:
KDE_fopen(indexLocation()=
"/home/rakku/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/.trash.index" , "r+") == mIndexStream
==  0x3[+ number]
kmail(16444)/kmail (storage internals) KMFolderMaildir::reallyDoClose:
fclose(mIndexStream = 0x3[+ same number as before] )"

I think I saw this one surface once again... Still haven't found a reliable way
to reproduce it though...

What I did:

1) Set up the personal account and mailserver (IMAP)
2) Checked mail via CTRL+L
3) Entered password
4) Kontact (kmail) from KDE-4.2.3 crashed with the backtrace below

I was shift-deleting multiple contacts with the mouse and kontact crashed when
I did the left click. This was the backtrace. I hope it helps:

[Bug 195052] New: sigabrt signal 6, crashed after a find a string in all messages

2009-06-02 Thread John Sowden
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195052

Summary: sigabrt signal 6, crashed after a find a string in all
messages
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.10.3
  Platform: SuSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: jsow...@americansentry.net

Version: 1.10.3 (using KDE 4.1.3)
Compiler: part of suse 11.1 none
OS:Linux
Installed from:SuSE RPMs

I was searching all of the messages in all of the folders. After I left the
search, after looking at a couple of messages in the kmail window (not clicking
on/opening them, it crashed. I then clicked on the kmail icon on the desktop
and received a warning that kmail is open in another display and suggest I that
not open if it is open already. I opened the second instance, and it has
worked fine, so far. I did not attempt to duplicate the error.

   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages

  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: gohmif...@gmail.com

Version:(using KDE 4.2.2)

It would be a huge usability boost if you could view not just folders, but
messages in tabs, and quite possibly both HTML and plain text versions of
messages that have both.
