[Bug 198869] New: no navigator toolbar icons in kmail

2009-07-03 Thread Daniel Mang
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198869

Summary: no navigator toolbar icons in kmail
   Product: kontact
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: danielm...@gmail.com

Version:(using KDE 4.2.2)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Debian testing/unstable Packages

After a computer restart, in kmail, the icons of those Kontact applications
chosen for the navigator toolbar (in my case those are: mail, contacts,
calendar and feeds) do not show up in the field they should show up in (in my
case, on top), even though the navigator toolbar is activated and the
applications are selected in the navigator toolbar settings. All I see are the
icons of the Main Toolbar. The Navigator Toolbar icons only show up once I have
opened up the toolbar configuration menu, effected some random change of
configuration in the navigator toolbar and clicked on Apply or OK. If I then
shut down Kontact and restart it, the icons are there. But the next time I
launch Kontact after a computer shutdown and restart, it has "forgotten" and
the icons are once more not there. As far as I can tell, this is only a problem
in the kmail module, but since I do not use the other modules as much I am not
100% sure.

This means kmail and/or the KDE libraries it uses was compiled against
libjpeg7, while it is not installed in your system.
Either install that version of libjpeg, or report to the support of your distro
that some KDE package is broken in this regard.

On Gentoo, kmail sometimes fails to build with -j#, where # > 1, due to
incompletely specified dependencies. The error received looks like:

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `kmail/org.kde.kmail.kmail.xml', needed by
`kontact/plugins/kmail/kmailinterface.cpp'. Stop.

This does not appear to be a downstream bug, but there is a bug report on

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR

Application that crashed: kontact
Version of the application: 4.3.0 pre

Qt Version: 4.5.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686
Distribution: Ubuntu 9.04

What I was doing when the application crashed:
I usually keep one instance of kontact running. When I shut down the computer,
Kontact is still running. After that, once the system starts, it opens two
instances of kontact and if I try to close one of them, it produces a crash.

--- Comment #6 from Allen Winter 2009-07-03 12:57:59 ---
You're welcome. Thanks for the kind words.

I haven't decided yet if I will put this into KDE 4.3 (due out in a few weeks).
Currently, the fix is in KDE 4.4 only.

Problem is: 4.3 is in release candidate mode and we shouldn't be introducing
stuff that could possibly lead to regressions. So I'm not sure.

I quit using KMail and switched to Evolution and the problem went away :-)
I use Gnome desktop exclusively now because KDE was just too buggy for me.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make KDE
better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug
189961, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to
see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if
there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally any further discussion
regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to
report any other bugs you may find.
