[Bug 217703] KMail in kubuntu 9.1 (KDE 4.3.2) crashes every time when Compact Folder is used.

Well ... right click on any folder in "Folder" pane, from popup menu choose
"Compact folder". Or, from top item in this pane, "Local folders", right
click and then "Comapact All Folders".

This function removes deleted mails from mbox file (when you delete an e-mail,
it's marked "Deleted" in the index file, but physically stays in mbox file
until compating).

Version:(using KDE 4.3.4)
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

In some sense this is a dup of bug 211531
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=211531, but that one is about Dolphin and
I wanted the KMail people to know about it, too.

When LC_COLLATE is set to "POSIX" or "C" sorting is supposed to be done in
ASCII order. In particular, this is case-sensitive with the uppercase letters
coming before the lowercase letters. This can be easily demostrates with the
"ls" command. Running "ls" with LC_COLLATE=POSIX will sort the filenames in
case-sensitive order.

The sorting of my mail folders in kmail is in case-insensitive order, even
though I have my LC_COLLATE variable set to POSIX. The locale standards
indicate that it should be in case-sensitive order.

This worked correctly in KDE 3.5.

Pressing Ctrl+Enter normaly (default configuration) sends the mail you are

[Bug 177619] Shortcut problem: CTRL + SHIFT + N

Michael Jansen changed:

 CC||k...@michael-jansen.biz

--- Comment #6 from Michael Jansen 2009-12-07
22:29:59 ---
There are different problems at work here.

1. It is not possible to configure the shortcuts for the syncActions and
newActions of KontactInterface::Plugin instances. They are added to the kontact
mainwindow by putting them into the appropriate KActionMenus but they are not
added to the KShortcutsEditor for kontact. Only the parts shortcuts are added.
Not those of the plugin.

2. The default shortcuts clash. CTRL+Shift+ is used for all those
"new " shortcuts so the rest of the application should use them
sparingly.

I have currently no idea to solve that problem. I would have to discuss with
david to refresh my knowledge how to do it. It depends on when kontact loads
its plugins. Whoever is willing to solve the problem may contact me.

If you close kmail the read mails are saved correctly - but if kmail "is
exited" this does not work. I think this is a duplicate.

Well, kmail sometimes crashs reproduceable for me when opening or replying on
certain mails. So reporting such crashes is perfectly "valid".
But if you cannot reproduce your problem, no developer will be able to. So I'm
closing this bug - it cannot be fixed. (Please don't mind the ugly word
"invalid" :) )

guessing there may had been memory corruption some place and we just happened

[Bug 217725] New: attaching a vcard does not remove (potentially sensitive) categories

2009-12-07 Thread Matthias Kretz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=217725

Summary: attaching a vcard does not remove (potentially
sensitive) categories
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kr...@kde.org

Version:(using KDE 4.3.2)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

How to reproduce:

- Start a new mail
- drag a contact from KAddressbook and drop it on the composer
- send
- receiver imports the vcard into his address book

Result:
The categories that were used for the contact by the sender are all stored in
the vcard and merged into the receivers address book.

Expected Result:
KMail/KAddressbook removes the categories when attaching the vcard. Possibly
the drop could open a menu (like when dropping files, asking for
move/copy/link) asking what should be removed/attached.

Rationale:
While I might be "Family" for my wife, I'm not "Family" for my coworker. Even
worse, there are good uses for category names that might be sensitive
information. This should never be shared so easily.
Also KMail does not show the category names are stored in the vcard when
looking at it!

It looks simple, but is not priority as I wrote. We are on 7th place in most
wanted features. Things like HTML Re or Fingerprint logon aren't in KDE yet
while in Gnome are for years.

It can't solely be this, as KDE already has great WYSIWYG HTML capabilities,
and has for some time, via WebKit. Just log into your GMail or go to a site
like http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples/editor/flickr_editor.html . It is
pretty simple to wrap stuff like this into a QWidget.

[Bug 217694] New: address completion should pull addresses from inbox/sent folders

2009-12-07 Thread Hans Meine
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=217694

Summary: address completion should pull addresses from
inbox/sent folders
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: NEW
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: hans_me...@gmx.net

Version:(using KDE 4.2.4)
Installed from:Gentoo Packages

I often miss addresses in kmails autocompletion; I have no perfect addressbook
(who has?), but I just had the idea that kmail could use my inbox + sent
folders as additional data sources for possible addresses.

That is - I have a very large (IMAP) folder structure, so in order to let this
be efficient, I explicitly propose to only use the main inbox (where spam mails
etc. will be deleted / moved from), and the sent-mail folder (which might
contain mails sent from other computers, but really indicates that these might
be possible future targets as well).

Additionally, it most likely makes sense to use only mails from the last N
days, where N might be something between 15 and 200 or so. (My inbox contains
some thousand mails from the last years, which might again be too much
otherwise?)

IMO address completion is one of the main features of a mail composer, and I
think this feature would help me save a lot of time! :-)

the detailed view shows the data-source field "addressbook",
IMHO it should also be selectable in the list view of all addresses

Kontact is totally messed up on my system. I can't import or save any e-mail
address/contacts, can't save any tasks, appointments - nothing. if I try to
save these then I get an error message that no resource can be found. Whatever
that means.

Yes I've switched to Zimbra as it is not going to be fixed in this century.
Development is waiting for WYSIWYG HTML editor being developed by Qt/Nokia team
or anybody. There is something available at
http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009/03/12/wysiwyg-html-editor/
since Match 2009, but kmail developers don't like this feature or it is not
priority for them despite is voted as one of the most wanted feature.
Guys if you are working in Outlookish company, switch to Zimbra. It has HTML
support, Kmail will never have.
