See http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136810
It was about a dependency on kmail just because of the kmail icon.
I don't know if it is still an issue in 4.x

[Bug 221219] New: Crash on terminating KAbc (can not write std.vcf)

2010-01-04 Thread Tim Fechtner
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221219

Summary: Crash on terminating KAbc (can not write std.vcf)
   Product: kontact
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: urw...@nurfuerspam.de

Application that crashed: kontact
Version of the application: 4.3.2
KDE Version: 4.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1) release 6
Qt Version: 4.5.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop x86_64
Distribution: openSUSE 11.2 (x86_64)

What I was doing when the application crashed:
When closing Kontact, I get this message:

The resource '/home/HOME/.kde4/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf' is locked by
application .

(Yes, it really terminated with: application .) After clicking on okay, I get:

No se puede tener acceso para guardar la librata de direcciones bDefault
Address Book/b

English translation would be something like Could not get access to bDefault
Address Book/b to save the address book. After that, I get the crash report.

This seems to be a permanent error. I've yet tried to remove the resource
Default Address Book (the only one that I have) in the address book; than
terminating Kontact; than deleting the address book file manually. On the next
start of Kontakt, the resource has been created newly, and an empty vcf file
also has been created. And I get the same errors and the same crash.

[Bug 221221] New: KMail does not start up properly when started with the KDE session

2010-01-04 Thread Alex Merry
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221221

Summary: KMail does not start up properly when started with the
KDE session
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: k...@randomguy3.me.uk

Version: 1.13.0 (SVN r1069428) (using Devel)
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.2 20091208 (prerelease) (GCC)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Compiled sources

This happens almost every time I log in to KDE when KMail was running at last
logout. However, sometimes KMail fails to run at all, and sometimes I will get
an Akonadi failed to start message, causing KMail to quit.

I logged in to a KDE desktop, having last logged out with KMail still running.
When start-up has finished, no KMail window is visible, and there is no KMail
icon in the notification area (note: I've set KMail to only display in the
notification area when I have unread email).

`pidof kmail`, however, shows that KMail is running, and it responds to D-Bus
messages.

`kquitapp kmail` makes the KMail window appear briefly before KMail quits.

`qdbus org.kde.kmail /kmail/kmail_mainwindow_1 show` shows a window of the
correct size, but almost entirely blank. All the widgets appear to occupy the
same space in the top left corner of the window.

My set-up for KMail is that I have several IMAP accounts (one running on
localhost, and another four accounts spread across three servers), all with
passwords saved in KWallet, and Akonadi is managing my address book (as a VCF
file).

My best guess is that KMail gets stuck in an inner event loop during startup.
I'll try to get a backtrace next time this happens to see where.

One final thing: when I do `kquitapp kmail` when KMail is in this state, I get
the following crash:

Application: KMail (kmail), signal: Segmentation fault

[Bug 67504] IMAP IDLE support for KMail

2010-01-04 Thread Christian Schuerer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67504

--- Comment #34 from Christian Schuerer csw gmx at 2010-01-04 11:53:24 ---
IMAP IDLE support is available in the akonadi resource. Kmail hasn't been
ported to akonadi yet, so it's definitely not in KDE SC 4.4. If developers have
enough time, it could be in KDE SC 4.5 or maybe even later. Akonadi support has
been announced for Mailody almost two years ago (see mailody.net), but there
haven't been any news since June 2008.

IMAP IDLE support would make kmail competitive again (e.g. thunderbird does
support it) as IMAP gets more and more popular (e.g. gmail offering IMAP access
with IDLE), but switching to akonadi is just not that trivial.

[Bug 221231] New: very slow and dbus-daemon causing high load

2010-01-04 Thread Arne Babenhauserheide
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221231

Summary: very slow and dbus-daemon causing high load
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: arne_...@web.de

Version: 1.13.0 (using 4.3.85 (KDE 4.3.85 (KDE 4.4 Beta2)), Gentoo)
Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31-gentoo-r6

Since two weeks ago or so (after the 4.4 eta2 update) Kontact often becomes
dead slow and dbus-daemon takes all CPU time it can get.

I think the change I did was disabling CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED in the kernel
(KDE SC 4.4 beta 2 on GNU/Linux via Gentoo).

The other option is that the 4.4 beta2 is the reason (though beta1 didn't
create any performance problems).

It mostly appears when downloading new mail or trying to write a mail -
especially when I write to many people.

Possibly also related: My nepomuk doesn't really work (indexer doesn't work)
since I enabled redland in the compile again (via Gentoo USE flag redland).

Backtrace from stuck KMail. Apparently we never get a response from KWallet.
This may have something to do with the D-Bus issues I've been having (lots of
things that talk over D-Bus have been timing out, making KRunner slow for
instance), and it may related to bug 216857 (which is down to a bug in Qt 4.6
4.6.0).

I haven't used either hula or kmail for years and hula is pretty much dead. I
worked around this in hula at the time, although I was pretty sure it was a bug
in kmail's handling of imap and worth fixing.

I had a quick try at installing Bongo (http://www.bongo-project.org/), which is
a fork of hula, but I had a bit of trouble with some of the dependencies.
Looking at their code they've change the append implementation so I don't know
how it'll behave now.

I fixed this a long time ago in the KDE 4 series.
We now use a general mail-new-message icon.

--- Comment #5 from Thomas McGuire mcguire kde org 2010-01-04 15:55:05 ---
is it still valid with KDE4 ?
Kde pim team what do you think ?

No idea if it is still valid. In any case this would be a kdelibs bug, as we're
using KTextEdit from there, which provides the spell checking functions. Other
parts of KDE would have the same problem, e.g. the text edit boxes in HTML
forms in Konqueror.

[Bug 221332] New: Unable to open TNEF files (winmail.dat)

2010-01-04 Thread Scott Kitterman
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221332

Summary: Unable to open TNEF files (winmail.dat)
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.12.4
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: mime
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: k...@kitterman.com

Version: 1.12.4 (using KDE 4.3.4)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

Back in KDE3 times, with ktnef, one could click on a winmail.dat file and open
the embedded attachements.

I see the capability being improved here:
http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.1_Feature_Plan
so I gather KDE4 is supposed to be able to handle this.

I have tried on three machines with no success (all Kubuntu) running 4.2.4,
4.3.2, and 4.3.4. When I click on the attachment, it asks if I want to save,
open with, or cancel.
