Note that this feature request is in response to Tobias' order to refile
feature requests from the old Kaddressbook against the new Kaddressbook. Here
are the relevant bugs that were closed in the old Kaddressbook:

An additional benefit of this would be to prevent duplicate anniversary

[Bug 223756] New: Associate contacts with one another

Please add a feature to link people in Kaddressbook by relation. For instance,
if I have a contact Ety Cohen who is married to Dotan Cohen, then I'd like a
way to associate the two. Then, by opening the contact Ety Cohen I would have
a link to Dotan Cohen.

Please add an option to let the user define a field's value in terms of a soft
link to the value of the same field of a different contact. Often two contacts
have the same personal information. For instance, a married couple would have
the same anniversary date, and likely the same home phone number and home
address as well. When this is the case (when there is a soft link between
contacts' fields), updating one contact's info should update the other's.

Please note that using custom fields to store this info is not ideal because:
1) There is no way to them select a contact from a list to enter the date
2) After the data is entered, there is no clickable link to the associated
contact.

[Bug 223763] New: sometimes sending mails lasts many seconds - virtuoso/akonadi related ?

2010-01-22 Thread Martin Koller
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=223763

Summary: sometimes sending mails lasts many seconds -
virtuoso/akonadi related ?
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kol...@aon.at

Version: 1.13.0 (using 4.3.90 (KDE 4.3.90 (KDE 4.4 RC1)) release
212, KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.2)
Compiler: gcc
OS:Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.8-0.1-desktop

Sometimes when sending a mail, the virtuoso server goes to eat the whole CPU
for 10-20 seconds.
During that time, kmail shows only the greyed out composer window and can not
do anything else, e.g. I can not select a different mail.

I was hoping that decoupling many things into akonadi solves the problem with a
blocking UI, but obviously there is still something borked.

The problem is that we are using a search job (search by email) synchronously,
i.e. with exec(). Therefore the GUI blocks, we shouldn't use exec() in any
place.

And of course Virtuoso should be faster in this case...

It seems that KNode-4.3.3 adds a Followup-To: header pointing to the newsgroup
the message is being posted.

This is not really a good thing according to the RFC :
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5536#section-3.2.6 :

The Followup-To header field SHOULD NOT appear in a message, unless its content
is different from the content of the Newsgroups header field.

But this is the case...

I have this exact same problem, with my (private) Usenet server refusing
messages which have a Followup-To flag set and aren't a reply to another post.

According to the RFC, what Knode does is bad :
The Followup-To header field SHOULD NOT appear in a message, unless its content
is different from the content of the Newsgroups header field.

If a developer tells me that, would I submit a patch for this, it would be
taken into consideration, I am willing to try to write one.

Version:(using KDE 4.3.3)

When sending a message to a news server, if the server refuses it with a 441
error, KNode will only print could not write to file server.example.com (if
server.example.com is the host of the server).

441 error message come with a text, which explains why the message was refused
; it would be helpful to give that information to the user (for instance, my
organization will refuse messages with more included text than added content).

This problem makes it impossible for users to understand why their posting was
refused...

[Bug 223780] New: message preview pane next to message list: choose whether left or right

2010-01-22 Thread riepernet
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=223780

Summary: message preview pane next to message list: choose
whether left or right
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.12.4
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: rieper...@sidux-ev.de

Version: 1.12.4 (using KDE 4.3.4)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Debian testing/unstable Packages

Under Settings Appearance Layout there is an option to display the message
preview plane next to the message list.
So far this always puts the preview pane right to the message list:
folder view | message list | preview pane

it would be nice to make this user choice, since when reading my mails by now i
always have to look at the right side of my screen. Therefore it would be nice
to make this user choice.
for me i would prefer:
folder view | preview pane | message list

others might prefer other options.

btw: amarok already included that feature as in unlock layout, there i am
free to rearrange the layout.

ps: me is a lefty and although i like the vertical layout i feel uncomfortable
with that sorting order.

Message font size is different for signed and unsigned messages.
Both specify body text as 15px but for signed messages this is ignored and
rendered as 16px. Probably a malformed tag in the signed status table.

using reply to in the context menu will create a reply that doesn't quote the

[Bug 223812] New: Searching doesn't work

Searching doesn't seem to work at all.

First of all, it doesn't find any results, even if I do simple searches like
subject contains 'e'.

Clicking the search button twice suddenly activates the Open Search Folder
button, and clicking that button crashes KMail.

I have once got KMail to show a search folder in the folder list, but can't do
that anymore. Removing the search folder crashes KMail as well.

KMail can't do IMAP searches anymore.
Currently, the searches use Akonadi, which in turn uses Nepomuk to search all
messages that are indexed by Nepomuk.

That of course doesn't include messages on the IMAP server, and also all
messages that are not locally cached.

In any case, searches on the IMAP server should be done with the special IMAP
command for it.
