[Bug 230934] New: First search became weird, then kmail went down

2010-03-16 Thread Shai
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230934

Summary: First search became weird, then kmail went down
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: s...@platonix.com

Application that crashed: kmail
Version of the application: 1.12.4
KDE Version: 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4)
Qt Version: 4.5.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 i686
Distribution: Debian GNU/Linux unstable (sid)

What I was doing when the application crashed:
I have a folder where I dump several mailing lists, and a search to extract one
of them. I knew that this search found 26 unread messages out of ~200. Today I
glanced at it, and it only showed one unread, and claimed to have only two in
total. I tried to look at its details to investigate, and KMail crashed.

[Bug 122028] Corrupt index files after crash, all messages blank

--- Comment #13 from Nathaniel Taylor nkbe ntmm org 2010-03-16 10:40:34 ---
I've noticed many times the problem of one or several emails being shown as
empty. I can't confirm it for KDE4, which I don't use, but it's been with us
at least several years in KDE3.

It sounds as though any fix will be by the change to a different underlying
program, but I offer the following advice in case it saves time for Kmail
users.

From my experience of the problem, nothing on the IMAP server is messed up, but
only kmail's memory (index) of the content. Using another mail client allows
the messages to be read. Deleting Kmail's index files then restarting kmail
removes the problem: I have this --
rm -vf $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap/.X.directory/.IN*
in a script that I run when the problem arises (of course, the number replaced
with X... will have to be set to whatever your one is).

If the problem is different for local rather than IMAP storage, I'd at least
suggest setting kmail to use separate files for storing the emails, rather than
mailspool files: limit the extent of corruption!

You can configure Akonadi to use an already running MySQL database server,
however that means you have to setup it manually. In akonadiserverrc you
have to setup all entries in the [QMYSQL] group to point to the external
server.

I'll close this bug report now, since SQLite is really not supported.

--- Comment #1 from Dario Andres andresbajotierra gmail com 2010-03-16
13:20:29 ---
From bug 229484:
-- Information about the crash:
* logged into Kubuntu through NX using an account that was apparently already
active and running a copy of Kontact
* Kontact reported that it was already running and asked if it should start
another instance.
* On being told to close, kontact crashed.

From bug 230288:
-- Information about the crash:
When I log in I am warned that there may be an existing KMail, etc. log-in
while the damn'd Akonadi run time takes forever to figure out that it still
doesn't work.
At some point, if I click on the application to either continue/ignore or
cancel, it crashes. Seems to restart OK, but Akonadi still doesn't work, not
that I ever really wanted it to.

[Bug 222684] New field type: working hours

2010-03-16 Thread Dotan Cohen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=222684

--- Comment #3 from Dotan Cohen kde-51 dotancohen com 2010-03-16 13:56:48 ---
You can use a custom field for that as soon as
they are back in 4.5 or later

Custom fields are not flexible enough to let one query for information such as:
1) See which pizza restaurant is open on Friday at 02:30 in the morning.
2) See which museums will be open when your old friend comes to visit.
3) Which pharmacy is open on Saturday when your child is sick.

If you are concerned about vCard compatibility, then the information could be
stored in custom vCard fields. Or the information could be stored in a
human-readable format as an amendment to the Notes field, that won't show in
Kaddressbook but will show in other apps. Shall I suggest just such a format?

but how this will be represented in the UI is a
 completely open question.

Would you like me to write up a mockup?

I love kmail and I'm using it since 2002, but I have just come aware that it
has this silly behaviour by design: it changes automatically the special
characters used for spacing and indentation in text. This is unimportant until
you send a message, but if you receive emails containing a diff/patch to apply
to a piece of code, then everything must be indented again (with sad results).
This bug has shown up more then 1 year ago in linux kernel mailing list
http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2007/7/5/112282/thread and it's
really a pity that it is still there. BTW I have re-invented the wheel with
this bug report, but I really wish that the guys upstream fix it.
Cheers

to still exist in KDE SC 4.4.1

The following text/x-vCard file doesn't work:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N;CHARSET=UTF-8;ENCODING=8BIT:Machin:Truc
TEL:
ADR;CHARSET=UTF-8;ENCODING=8BIT:;56 Rue du Bootloader. 63000 Clermont-ferrand

But the following does work:
BEGIN:VCARD

I think kaddressbook doesn't correctly handle ENCODING=8BIT.

KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.2)
Compiler: gcc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop

In kmail/kde3 I often pasted multiple addresses into the to/cc/bcc field and
kmail automatically splitted them up in a list. this does not work anymore in
kmail/kde4. This is even worse, when sending to mailing lists does not work
anymore, too. I have now to spent much time on pasting all 50 addresses
manually one after another. Please fix this.

[Bug 231004] New: vcard embedded photos: Option to use ENCODING=BASE64 instead of ENCODING=b

2010-03-16 Thread Larx
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=231004

Summary: vcard embedded photos: Option to use ENCODING=BASE64
instead of ENCODING=b
   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: NEW
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: bugzi...@go4more.de
CC: to...@kde.org

Version:(using KDE 4.4.1)
Installed from:openSUSE RPMs

Currently Kaddressbook saves vcards with embedded photos with the following
line:
PHOTO;ENCODING=b;TYPE=image/jpeg...

For years now I've tried to sync such vcards with my mobile phones (Nokia,
Symbian) and always got errors with this setting.

Now I found out that you can synonymous use the following line:
PHOTO;ENCODING=BASE64;TYPE=image/jpeg...
After changing this line manually in all my contacts, my phone finally accepts
the vcards with embedded photos!

It would be great to have an option for that in the export function.

[Bug 231011] New: kontact kmail blank message crash

Version: 1.9.10 (using 3.5.10, Kubuntu (hardy)
4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-21-generic

In kontact, while I read email from IMAP account (MS Exchange), it often shows
some emails as completely blank (with no message body, although from, to,
subject, etc. are shown). This happens both in message pane and opening message
in a separate window.
Shortly after viewing a few of such messages as blank (even though they are not
blank), kontact crashes.

2010-03-16 Thread Larx
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=231004

--- Comment #1 from Larx bugzilla go4more de 2010-03-16 20:10:58 ---
Another workaround for broken vcard handys of some Symbian mobile phones (e.g.
my Nokia E51): If the embedded picture isn't the last entry in the vcard file,
all following entries are discarded by this phone. Maybe Kaddressbook could
have a legacy/workaround option in its export functionality in order to fix
this problem, and the one described in my first post?

BTW, I'm talking about exporting as vcard 2.1, as vcard 3.0 also has problems
with German umlauts in my phone.

Hej Lars,

I don't want to discourage you but honestly I don't feel like implementing
lots of hacks into KAddressBook just to work around broken hardware of
phone vendors...
This should be done by real synchronization software which knows the bugs of
the device to synchronize with and can adopt the data format according.

Ciao,
Tobias

kmail: 1.12.4
There seem to be background processes (like sorting threads) that consume a lot
of CPU time (htop shows 14% CPU on AMD 1800+).

For about a week or so, it is not even getting better after messages are
downloaded and sorted. I can hardly use the editor any more :(

I don't think it is due to the ATI graphic card, it might be an issue of thread
priorities. If I use other applications, I can type fluently there.

As this is for recent Debian Sid packages, I suggest to create a new bug entry
rather than appending an old kmail bug.

Regards
Ralf
