I still have hope. One day this feature will definitely be implemented and that time it'll be the best choice for email client. Sorry, this is never going to be done. A recent thread at kdepim-us...@kde.org produced the usual arguments that it was evil, should never be allowed, highly dangerous etc (but with no statistics of course). More importantly, an attempt to get people to offer $100 or so to fund the change only got three offers. The devs then sent a message that not one of them was interested in doing it - no doubt influenced by all the merchants of doom. So, if you need this in your lifetime - go and find an email client that will support it. KMail won't - so probably won't last anyway. Shame - but there you are. [Bug 249100] New: akonadi kolab/imap: double entry after edit
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249100 Summary: akonadi kolab/imap: double entry after edit Product: Akonadi Version: unspecified Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Kolab Resource AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: kde-b...@404not-found.de CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0) OS:Linux When I edit an addressbook contact or a calendar entry within kontact (using an akonadi kolab/imap resource), after a few minutes the old entry reappears. So after the edit I have a double entry, the old and the new version. I have checked directly on the imap server, after the edit both versions of the entry are present there. So I guess what happens is that the kolab resource creates a new entry but doesn't delete the old one, and after the next imap synchronization both entries are visible in kontact. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Set up akonadi imap and kolab resource, set imap check interval to 1 minute. Create addressbook entry, then edit this entry. Wait a minute for the imap resource to synchronize. Actual Results: Old entry reappears, both old and new version are visible. Expected Results: Only new version should be there. When trying to reproduce: note that for me the old entry reappears at the end of the address book list, not in alphabetical order. On a side note: When I delete the duplicate entry, often (but not always) plasma crashes. I could not reproduce this crash by just deleting a newly created item. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86423 --- Comment #141 from Fred Jones fredsie gmail com 2010-08-26 12:12:37 --- I too believe now that Kmail will, sadly, never have this feature. I suspect that it's been losing users in large numbers because of this failing, which also makes working on it less attractive. But the biggest threat is online mail services like Google Mail. I confess I started to use Gmail when frustration with the Kmail thing got too much. I now can do all the things i coudn't with Kmail, and more significantly, I can access my mail - including full mail archive - everywhere (including on my mobile phone), whereas before I had to be at home to search old emails. I think, for private users at least, that the future for local mail clients is gloomy. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

If the address is in the form Name Surname em...@domain.com it will be copied the whole string, not only the address. 4) pasting the string into kaddressbook email field in the Edit contact dialog or into the email field in the Add new address (and edit address) doesn't work because it needs a clean email string. [Bug 249146] Cannot copy and paste email address from kmail to kaddressbook
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249146 --- Comment #2 from Nancy Anthracite nancy anthracite name 2010-08-26 21:56:12 --- Thanks for the explanation. I used to be able to paste it in and then clean it up but I can't do that now. I also can't paste a cleaned up list of addresses(i.e., just the email addresses that are comma separated) into the email addresses any more. If I do, the commas are removed. I have to add them one at a time which is much less efficient than clipping addresses out of emails to create a new list. It may save me from dealing with double sets of angle brackets, but on the average, the old way was more efficient. I also can't associate the names with the address that way. Then once I paste them in one at a time, only one name shows in the contact folder email list. I don't like to complain because everyone is working so hard on this for the benefit of others, but I think the old way was very significantly better for the way I work. degree. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

If the module is set to false in kontaktrc . . kontact_kaddressbookpluginEnabled=true kontact_kmailpluginEnabled=false kontact_knotespluginEnabled=true . . it will crash The settings window opens normally with the mail preferences as default. It looks like disabling it sends some kind of pointer or such into the dark. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

Regards, johnM That's interesting. We just paid a bounty many, many times that size to fix all kinds of other issues in Kontact for Zimbra interoperability including implementing CardDAV, CalDAV, fixing the time zone issues, piles of fixes. This was all done by the Trinity project which is maintaining and fixing KDE3 for those who feel KDE4 is not quite ready or have other reasons not to upgrade (http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net). We would be interested in supporting an effort to fix this in Trinity. I would hope with a working implementation in KDE3, it would be trivial to port to KDE4 along with CardDAV and CalDAV. Is anyone interested in chipping in with us? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs
