I've already switched to Thunderbird because this is never going to be in
Kmail. Just imagine there is demand at least for 5 years and nothing changed.
Deep regret to Kmail.

Guys don't give up. I still have hope. One day this feature will definitely be
implemented and that time it'll be the best choice for email client.

Sorry, this is never going to be done.
A recent thread at kdepim-us...@kde.org produced the usual arguments that it
was evil, should never be allowed, highly dangerous etc (but with no statistics
of course).
More importantly, an attempt to get people to offer $100 or so to fund the
change only got three offers.
The devs then sent a message that not one of them was interested in doing it -
no doubt influenced by all the merchants of doom.
So, if you need this in your lifetime - go and find an email client that will
support it.
KMail won't - so probably won't last anyway.
Shame - but there you are.
Regards,
johnM

[Bug 249100] New: akonadi kolab/imap: double entry after edit

2010-08-26 Thread Raimar Sandner
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249100

Summary: akonadi kolab/imap: double entry after edit
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Kolab Resource
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-b...@404not-found.de
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0)
OS:Linux

When I edit an addressbook contact or a calendar entry within kontact (using an
akonadi kolab/imap resource), after a few minutes the old entry reappears. So
after the edit I have a double entry, the old and the new version.

I have checked directly on the imap server, after the edit both versions of the
entry are present there. So I guess what happens is that the kolab resource
creates a new entry but doesn't delete the old one, and after the next imap
synchronization both entries are visible in kontact.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Set up akonadi imap and kolab resource, set imap check interval to 1 minute.
Create addressbook entry, then edit this entry. Wait a minute for the imap
resource to synchronize.

Actual Results:
Old entry reappears, both old and new version are visible.

Expected Results:
Only new version should be there.

When trying to reproduce: note that for me the old entry reappears at the end
of the address book list, not in alphabetical order.

On a side note: When I delete the duplicate entry, often (but not always)
plasma crashes. I could not reproduce this crash by just deleting a newly
created item.

[Bug 86423] Ability To Reply To HTML Email With Same HTML Format As It Was Received

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86423

--- Comment #141 from Fred Jones fredsie gmail com 2010-08-26 12:12:37 ---
I too believe now that Kmail will, sadly, never have this feature. I suspect
that it's been losing users in large numbers because of this failing, which
also makes working on it less attractive.
But the biggest threat is online mail services like Google Mail. I confess I
started to use Gmail when frustration with the Kmail thing got too much. I now
can do all the things i coudn't with Kmail, and more significantly, I can
access my mail - including full mail archive - everywhere (including on my
mobile phone), whereas before I had to be at home to search old emails. I
think, for private users at least, that the future for local mail clients is
gloomy.

Sabine:
With akonadiconsole - Browser - Local Folders - Outbox, Attributes
there should be the cause why this email was not send.

(BTw: Could you always give the Plattform (e.g. Desktop or N900)
and the tag you were retesting with).
Thanks,
Bernhard

I'm afraid I've given up too. Been using kmail since 2004 and the lack of this
feature stops me working effectively with all the Outlook users in my company.
Bit of a joke since it's obviously in demand. I don't buy the security excuse
BS, other clients pull off this feature no problem with default hiding of
images/remote assets. Anyway, I now have a linux desktop at work, and a windows
laptop - just for Outlook.

--- Comment #144 from masaj inmail cz 2010-08-26 16:53:55 ---
I've switched to thunderbird couple of days ago. Running on qt-curve I'm quite
happy with it. The decision came since I cannot start Kmail due to failed
Akonadi after KDE upgrade. In my opinion, Akonadi is impossible to troubleshoot
for normal users, well, maybe it is, but I've lost last remains of patience
with it.
I'm afraid kmail is gonna lose huge portion of users because of Akonadi and
HTML stuff.
I wish good luck to developers in making the application better, it deserves
it.

[Bug 249146] New: Cannot copy and paste email address from kmail to kaddressbook

2010-08-26 Thread FiNeX
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249146

Summary: Cannot copy and paste email address from kmail to
kaddressbook
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.5
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: GUI
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: fi...@finex.org

1) Open Kmail
2) select an email
3) right click on the From email address (in the header section) and select
copy email address.

If the address is in the form Name Surname em...@domain.com it will be
copied the whole string, not only the address.

4) pasting the string into kaddressbook email field in the Edit contact
dialog or into the email field in the Add new address (and edit address)
doesn't work because it needs a clean email string.

Copy email address action should copy only the address.
(...or kaddressbook should be smart enough to understand it, but I don't think
kaddressbook devs would like to implement this feature).

--- Comment #2 from Nancy Anthracite nancy anthracite name 2010-08-26

Thanks for the explanation.

I used to be able to paste it in and then clean it up but I can't do that
now.

I also can't paste a cleaned up list of addresses(i.e., just the email
addresses that are comma separated) into the email addresses any more. If I
do, the commas are removed. I have to add them one at a time which is much
less efficient than clipping addresses out of emails to create a new list. It
may save me from dealing with double sets of angle brackets, but on the
average, the old way was more efficient. I also can't associate the names with
the address that way. Then once I paste them in one at a time, only one name
shows in the contact folder email list. I don't like to complain because
everyone is working so hard on this for the benefit of others, but I think the
old way was very significantly better for the way I work. degree.

[Bug 249163] New: kmail crashes if imap (not dimap) check triggered when files and folders are deleted

2010-08-26 Thread envite
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249163

Summary: kmail crashes if imap (not dimap) check triggered when
files and folders are deleted
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.5
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: env...@rolamasao.org

Application: kmail (1.13.5)
KDE Platform Version: 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5)
Qt Version: 4.6.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 x86_64
Distribution: Debian GNU/Linux testing (squeeze)

-- Information about the crash:
a) Kmail does not refresh correctIy: I had kmail showing no subfolders nor
messages on certain folder on one IMAP account. I was sure they were there
since I have direct access to the server and the files and directories were
there when I did 'ls'. Moreover, if I tried to create a subfolder with the
appropiate name, Kmail rejected the creation with a This folder already
exists message, yet continued showing an empty folder. F5 didn't shown the
content.
b) I deleted the whole content of $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap to force
kmail to refresh from the server instead of using uncorrect stale info. Then,
kmail started to show strange errors relative to the deleted folders in
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap and crashed.

Section a) of the bug has the ability to cause data loss: What if I decide to
delete the folder on the IMAP server trusting kmail assertion that it is empty
even when I hit F5?

I found a hint at
http://www.ubuntu-forum.de/artikel/51570/kontact-st%C3%BCrzt-ab-wenn-kontact-einreichten.html
Seems that disabling the E-mail module causes a crash.
If the module is set to false in kontaktrc
.
.
kontact_kaddressbookpluginEnabled=true
kontact_kmailpluginEnabled=false
kontact_knotespluginEnabled=true
.
.
it will crash
The settings window opens normally with the mail preferences as default.
It looks like disabling it sends some kind of pointer or such into the dark.

Extra info: a new start of Kmail seems to work ok: shows correctly the folder
list but not correctly the number of messages in each one (all of them are
zeroed until I open the folder)

Sorry, this is never going to be done.
A recent thread at kdepim-us...@kde.org produced the usual arguments that it
was evil, should never be allowed, highly dangerous etc (but with no
 statistics

That's interesting. We just paid a bounty many, many times that size to
fix all kinds of other issues in Kontact for Zimbra interoperability
including implementing CardDAV, CalDAV, fixing the time zone issues,
piles of fixes. This was all done by the Trinity project which is
maintaining and fixing KDE3 for those who feel KDE4 is not quite ready
or have other reasons not to upgrade
(http://trinity.pearsoncomputing.net). We would be interested in
supporting an effort to fix this in Trinity. I would hope with a
working implementation in KDE3, it would be trivial to port to KDE4
along with CardDAV and CalDAV. Is anyone interested in chipping in with
us?

There is actually a Answer to all options in the context menu but I don't
know what purpose it serves, obviously not answering all mails but I think it
is to answer all recipients of the first selected mail...
