[Bug 250981] New: Akonadi starts with errors after switching db backend, makes kmail unusable

2010-09-12 Thread Ctibor Brančík
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=250981

Summary: Akonadi starts with errors after switching db backend,
makes kmail unusable
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 1.4.0
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: server
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: ctibor.bran...@seznam.cz

Version: 1.4.0 (using Devel)
OS:Linux

I have installed KDEPIM beta3 and upgraded also akonadi-server package with
following information from gentoo packagers:

QSQLITE3 has been set as your default akonadi storage backend.
You can override it in your ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc.
Available drivers are: QMYSQL, QPSQL, QSQLITE3

With beta2 I have fetched my mail from my POP3 account (around 1GB of data).

Since I had beta2 installed I checked ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc and saw
that QMYSQL backend is set. So I changed it to QSQLITE3 manualy. It couldn't be
changed via akonaditray, because sqlite backend isn't listed in the dropdown
menu. There is only MYSQL and PGSQL (although I don't have pgsql USE flag
enabled).

Now starting akonadi gives me dialog: Could not acces the outbox folder
(Unknown Error. (Unknown resource)).

Kmail starts and close with dialog: Kmail encountered a fatal error and will
terminate now. The error was: Unknown resource.

log from akonadictl start:

Hej,

can you test a more recent version (4.4.5 or even better 4.5), please?
There have been a lot of fixes lately in Akonadi related code.

Ciao,

Hej Kevin,

identifiers and keywords are case insensitive in PostgreSQL, therefor what you
see is completely fine. Akonadi always uses case sensitive names, how the
database handles them is out of our scope.

Ciao,
Tobias

What I want is that if akonadi wants to use camelcase identifiers, it should
write them inside double quotes as the SQL standard specifies.

Identifiers are always case insensitive in SQL if not inside double quotes,
this should also happen on other databases engines, and makes the database
difficult to read.

[Bug 251042] New: akoandi-nepomuk eats all CPU shortly after login ($HOME on NFS) for about 2 minutes

2010-09-12 Thread T Kleindienst
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=251042

Summary: akoandi-nepomuk eats all CPU shortly after login
($HOME on NFS) for about 2 minutes
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.5
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Nepomuk Feeder Agents
AssignedTo: to...@kde.org
ReportedBy: t.kleindie...@web.de
CC: vkra...@kde.org, kdepim-bugs@kde.org

Version: 4.5 (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS:Linux

I have about 1 emails in my inbox and about 8000 in the sent-mail folder.
All email-folders consume about 5.1 Gb.
After login akonadi-nepomuk eats all the CPU and the system gets unresponsive
for about 2 minutes. System is OpenSuse 11.3 with decent hardware Intel Core
i5, 4x3.33Ghz, 4Gb Ram.
$Home is located on NFS, 100Mbit wired.

I understand that this process is needed to feed the akonadi-data into nepomuk.
What I don't understand is, that I still use 4.4 kontact, thus akonadi is not
handling the emails. What actually does akonadi-nepomuk?

Can this process run with a lower priority? Or can the load be reduced by
limiting the CPU consumption? I would not mind if it takes 5 or 10 minutes to
run, but unobtrusive in the background.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Simply log in and watch CPU-consumption going up.
