Hi, I think Bug 268115 should go in there, I reported it to kopete but it also
happens with tellico, and all of this since I installed kdepim 4.5.94.1.

Sorry if it is the wrong place to report it.

I've got the same problem (Gentoo ~amd64). However, it's not completely true
(at least for me) that nothing happens when rightalt+o gets pressed.
*Some*thing happens then, because the very next key pressed (any key) is eaten.
As if it treated rightalt+o as a begin of a keyboard shortcut chord (maybe
it's so, although I reviewed all shortcut lists and didn't find anything like
this).

[Bug 261788] akonadi_agent_launcher segfaults when stopping the Akonadi server

2011-04-09 Thread Daniel Eklöf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261788

--- Comment #10 from Daniel Eklöf daniel ekloef se 2011-04-09 13:44:04 ---
Since nothing's happening here... let's try to narrow it down a bit.

To me, it seems this is related to the akonadi resources from the
kdepim(-runtime) 4.6 beta/rc packages. I.e. I don't have any issues with
akonadi on *any* of my systems that still uses kdepim-4.4. On the other hand,
I'm seeing it on *all* systems with kdepim 4.6beta/rc. Same akonadi version on
all systems.

Specifically, the two resources I'm having issues with is the notes resource,
and the imap resource.

The notes resource will trigger a long delay when shutting down akonadi (with
akonadictl stop), before finally crashing. When this happens, I see this in
akonadi's console output: QProcess: Destroyed while process is still running

Removing all notes resources completely fixes the issue for me on the systems
where I don't have any imap resources.

For imap, there doesn't appear to be any issues if stopping akonadi *before*
connecting to the imap servers. For example, when stopping akonadi before
starting kmail. If a connection has been established, the imap resource is
*always* causing a delay when stopping akonadi (and then crashes).

Furthermore, it's always the *same* imap account (I have multiple imap accounts
on all my systems). Not sure if it's something specific to the account, or if
it's because it's not the first imap resource (i.e. the problematic account has
the highest resource number on all systems).

Is there anyone having issues with *other* resources? Or are these the only
two? Anything else that can help narrow this down will help...

Yet some more info... even though I remove all problematic resources (and thus
making akonadi stop without any delays), logging out from KDE still takes a
long time.

This turns out to be akonadi not being shutdown automatically when logging out.
Instead, ksmserver waits until it hits it's timeout, which I believe is 10s,
before continuing shutting down KDE.

It shutdowns fast again if I manually stop akonadi before logging out. But this
(including scripting and adding shortcuts to the desktop or similar) is only a
temporary workaround.

Note that adding a script to $HOME/.kde/shutdown doesn't help, since those
scripts are executed *after* logging out from KDE, while akonadi needs to be
stopped *before*.

[Bug 270506] New: kmail won't recover or quit after lost connection while checking mail

2011-04-09 Thread Leon Maurer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270506

Summary: kmail won't recover or quit after lost connection
while checking mail
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.5
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: leon.n.maurer...@alum.dartmouth.org

Version: 1.13.5 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS:Linux

If my network connection is interrupted while kmail is checking mail (or even,
I think, if the connection goes down before kmail tries to check for mail), the
checks in progress will hang and not start up again even after the connection
is restored. Not even quitting kontact will stop the hung mail checks; this is
what I see after quitting kontact following a hung mail check:

leon@leon-desktop:~$ ps ax | grep kontact
16136 ?Sl 0:37 /usr/bin/kontact
16139 ?S 0:00 kdeinit4: kio_imap4 [kdeinit] imaps
local:/tmp/ksocket-leon/klauncherMT2229.slave-socket
local:/tmp/ksocket-leon/kontactN16136.slave-socket
16140 ?S 0:08 kdeinit4: kio_imap4 [kdeinit] imaps
local:/tmp/ksocket-leon/klauncherMT2229.slave-socket
local:/tmp/ksocket-leon/kontactZ16136.slave-socket
16690 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep kontact

I can't start kontact again until I kill the old kontact (kill 16136 in this
case).

This is a major annoyance; every time I put my computer to sleep with kmail
running, unplug my laptop's ethernet connection with kmail running, etc. I
either have to quit kontact preemptively or do the commandline routine I
outlined.

This might be related to bugs 224900, 113139, and/or 240350. This problem has
existed for some time; it's not some new regression.

Reproducible: Always

Unless google makes their implementation of caldav standard compliant, it
will never work correctly and reliably with caldav clients.

But this is a google calender plugin, not a generic caldav plugin, right?

It does not work in Thunderbird (unless you use the gdata plugin) nor does it
in the various kde caldav/groupdav clients/akonadi resources.

But gcaldaemon [1] for example works very well. I am using it since some years
now as a workaround until some part of KDE will be able to sync wit google
calendars. (google - gcaldaemon - local ics files - kde)

 YOU WILL LOSE DATA!

Did not happen a single time to me.

google doed not correctly support filters and they know pretty well, which
makes me think that they are not really interested in it.

What kind of filters are you talking about?

Yes, it happens only with kmail. External application launched from kmail (eg.
kaddressbook) work fine. And it seems independent of keyboard layout, I tried
many different layouts with the same effect. If the code from the master
repository works OK, maybe it's a debug hack left accidentally in the code of
1.13.6 and then removed?

My previous comment #10 was related to the quoted comment #9 about calDAV.

Please note that there are two ways of connecting to google calendars:

1) via gdata akonadi resource
Has exactly the restriction as described in this whole thread: It can only sunc
with the primary calendar, not with secondary ones. This is due to the design
of the gadata resource and could relatively easily changed by changing the
login method, as done in Mozilla Thunderbird gdata plugin.
Please also see my comment #2 and #3.

2) Via caldav akonadi resource
COULD sync with google when google would comply with their implementation of
caldav, as stated in my comment #10. Since the akonadi groupdav resource uss
caldav filters to filter incidences from the collections, which google does not
fully support, loss of data occurred - at least in the past. The resource would
get the collection returned from google instead just the element and would
delete the first element in the collection, ie the oldest one.
Furthermore, there is a bug in the kdepim libs that prevents receiving updates,
a bug that will be fixed in 4.6.2 as far as i know.
Since I have moved successfully away from google, I can not comment on any
existing caldav rtesources for akonadi and whether they would work with google.

But be warned: googles implementation of caldav is not standard compliant in
many ways and there is a STRING POSSIBILITY OF LOSING DATA.
Unless you use method 1) of course.

Suggest you try out working opensource caldav implementations like daviCal
(requires root server, PHP and postgres), egroupware (runs on shared server
with PHP and various databases) or the lightweight version SabreDAV (PHP and
various datbases).

I have an egroupware installation running that successfully syncs with
Thunderbird, Akonadi and iPhone.

Cheers,
Ingo

[Bug 270536] New: Configure/Sending (Add Transport): When adding a new outgoing mail account, Check What the Server Supports only checks port 25

2011-04-09 Thread ar-bugs.kde.org
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270536

Summary: Configure/Sending (Add Transport): When adding a new
outgoing mail account, Check What the Server
Supports only checks port 25
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.12.2
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: ar-bugs.kde@nwdb.co.uk

Version: 1.12.2 (using KDE 1.2)
OS:Linux

In the Add Transport dialog when adding a new outgoing mail account, Check
What the Server Supports only checks port 25 - even if 'Port' has been
specifically set to a different value. This causes problems if the outgoing
SMTP service on the remote server is running on a different port (e.g. mail
submission port 587) - for example if the server is providing port 25 for
incoming mail (MX mail receipt) and port 587 for outgoing mail (mail
submission). The former may not provide authentication (SMTP AUTH) or
encryption (like SMTP STARTTLS) whilst the latter does.

The workaround is to enter the port and settings manually, but this defeats the
object of having an autoconfigure button (Check What the Server Supports) - as
well as being confusing since this button gives the wrong result.

Since the port value is apparently ignored for this test, it would be better to
have the dialog offer the autoconfigure option _OR_ select port encryption
manually; in it's current form it looks like the autoconfigure button will
check the port value entered.

Alternatively it may be worth improving the 'Check what the server supports'
capability: Instead of checking just port 25, it could be changed to check the
selected port - or it could be changed to check common SMTP ports: 25, 465 and
587 being obvious candidates, as well as the selected port.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Setup an SMTP service on a port other than port 25. Optionally also provide a
separate SMTP service on port 25 (with different capabilities). Now set the
'Port' value to the non-port 25 SMTP port number and click on 'Check What the
Server Supports'. The capabilities of the SMTP service running on port 25 will
be shown.

Capturing the traffic to the SMTP port(s) on the server makes the fault more
obvious.

Actual Results:
The capabilities of the SMTP service running on port 25 will be shown. If no
SMTP service is running on port 25, 'None' will be shown for Encryption.

Expected Results:
See 'Details' section

I still think kmail's a great product (and I know I'm running an older version,
upgrading is on my todo list...)

To clarify what kmail does on pressing 'Check what the server supports': kmail
issues an EHLO to the remote server [on port 25] - capture port 25 traffic on
the server to see this - kmail acts on seeing AUTH or STARTTLS as capabilities
(probably others too).

[Bug 233671] Only syncs one of several google calendars connected to the same account

2011-04-09 Thread Marc Schiffbauer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233671

--- Comment #13 from Marc Schiffbauer marc links2linux de 2011-04-10
00:30:15 ---
(In reply to comment #12)
My previous comment #10 was related to the quoted comment #9 about calDAV.

I see.

Please note that there are two ways of connecting to google calendars:

 1) via gdata akonadi resource
Has exactly the restriction as described in this whole thread: It can only
 sunc
with the primary calendar, not with secondary ones. This is due to the design
of the gadata resource and could relatively easily changed by changing the
login method, as done in Mozilla Thunderbird gdata plugin.

This sounds promising. Then I would be very happy if this would be done.
Are there patches around somewhere already?

-Marc
