[Bug 257976] Message list scrolling is very slow (regression)

Confirmed on gentoo, however, here the speed is always horrible, not only when
checking for mail.

CPU load also peaks (process kontact) when I scroll through the list. Happens
even on small (200 entries) lists, and only in kmail (so no general Qt issue).

Gentoo, kmail2 RC, Qt 4.7.2, list stile is classic, aggregation is standard
mailing list.

[Bug 270937] kmail2: "move to trash" with key press (del) not working properly

--- Comment #9 from Fuchs 2011-05-19 08:10:41 ---
I can confirm this on Gentoo as well. And there is no setting for the trash
folder in the advanced settings, only for the draft- and sent folders.

Kind regards,

Christian

[Bug 273613] New: Local Folders: Unknown error. (There is no transaction in progress.)

2011-05-18 Thread _GreyBones
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=273613

Summary: Local Folders: Unknown error. (There is no transaction
in progress.)
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 1.99.0
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: ginoloves...@gmail.com

Version: 1.99.0 (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS:Linux

Kmail doesn't crash or anything but reports error on start, and on random
interval or during some random transactions (moving mail in folders or sending
messages)

Local Folders: Unknown error. (There is no transaction in progress.)

I have 2x google IMAP accounts..

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
open kmail
send+receive messages
send email.

Actual Results:
Local Folders: Unknown error. (There is no transaction in progress.)
still does what I ask, but just reports this annoying error..

Expected Results:
no error?

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.38.6custom
Compiler: gcc
Slackware64

Not sure what else you might need...
Here is console out put from a send+recieve request:

Last driver error: "QMYSQL: Unable to begin transaction"
Last database error: "MySQL server has gone away"

My SQL is up and running (stand alone) and akonditray doesn't report any errors
with it, it runs on localhost..

Today I met Till Adam from KDAB and we debugged my slow kmail. Looks like the
major problem is, that kmail writes his kmailrc *** very *** often. On the one
hand this needs a lot of CPU (1,7 Mbyte file, generating 70.000 lines config),
on the other hand this is done using fsync(), so there's very much I/O.

I'll receive a patch for this during the next days, maybe all the problems are
gone then...

(In reply to comment #2)
> Does this still exists with KMail/Akonadi 4.6 beta 5? Can you retest and check
> if this is still valid? There have been MASSIVE bugfixings there.

I am no longer able to reproduce this because KMail on Mandriva Cooker is no
longer KMail2 but rather has been downgraded to Version 1.13.7. See:

http://forum.mandriva.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=134876

I don't blame the Mandriva packagers for downgrading it, because frankly with
Akonadi and Nepomuk and all these curse words, KMail2 has become extremely
buggy and unreliable.

I don't know what to do about this bug - it may still exist, but I'm not in the
mood to build the new KDEPIM just to test it on this system.

Regards,

With kdepim-4.4.11 on top of kdeSC-4.6.3 the problem is gone!

Should I mark the bug as solved (fixed)?

Git commit f99de48495add01200a0434d99b080318eedb254 by Andre Heinecke.
Committed on 18/05/2011 at 18:52.
Pushed by aheinecke into branch 'master'.

Add a blocking waitForKSycoca function

When Kontact is started on a system where no kded was ever
started before there is a race condition between kontact querying
the KSycoca database and the creation of that database.
This caused Kontact not load any plugins in that case.

This Patch causes Kontact to block for up to 10 seconds while
waiting for KSycoca to become available.

[Bug 251740] On reply accented characters are completely garbled

That did the trick! I had that option checked and unchecking it fixed the
problem. Thanks!

So the bug can be reformulated as: "Keep original charset when replying of
forwarding" option garbles accented characters for multipart e-mails.

(however, I had it checked only accidentally. Maybe such feature can be removed
completely if it is (partially) broken.)

Christophe, thanks for testing. You motivated me to create new blank user
account and guess what - it worked flawlessly there! So this must be something
wrong with my config. Do you have idea where could it be before a throw away
all kmail config and start from scratch?

Concerning this bug I think it could be closed as WORKSWORME because my issue
to be just weird configuration problem. (i started using kontact2 last summer,
so there may be just random junk in config files)

With Kmail 1.13.5 in Composer window add the action Dictionary to the toolbar.

With this action a combo box with all your spellcheck dictionaries is added to
the header area.
Using the items in this combo box you can switch between all installed
spellcheck dictionaries on the fly.

Does this solve your wish?
