In case you still experience this please feel free to reopen. In such a case,
we would need much more information like the actual IMAP server used and so
 on.
In that report it is actually unclear if the problem happens on the GMail or
 Exchange resource.

I can't reopen, please someone being authorized to do so please reopen this
bug. I'll gladly provide more information, as long as this will be resolved
rather sooner than later, since it is really annoying.

Hi Grégory,

thanks, enabling kwallet helped.

Nevertheless, I would suggest a different bugfix. Be consistent with other
credental handling in kmail / akonadi. Installing my pop3 account I was asked
for kwallet, I denied and after a warning my credential were stored locally (I
don't know where). For consistency I would like to have the same behaviour all
over akonadi.

I also would like to suggest a small enhancement. Please add the davmail
frontend to the select buttons or provide an Other Connections or something
similar to the dialog used to select the connection. Going via Abort into the
desired dialog is somehow weired.

Greetings, jens.

[Bug 278420] GroupDAV resource details get lost

2011-10-02 Thread Grégory Oestreicher
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278420

--- Comment #15 from Grégory Oestreicher greg kamago net 2011-10-02 20:23:58
---
Hi Jens,

I don't see the benefits of letting the resource store your passwords in
unencrypted files scattered through your hard drive (and I doubt that everybody
has access to military-grade data destruction facilities ;). The benefit of
using KWallet is that your passwords are encrypted and theorically safe (though
I'm not sure that using KWallet without a password is not a glorified
spreadsheet with all your passwords ripe for recovery in it). I'm unlikely to
do this kind of thing in the resource and would oppose this kind of
modification that would result in a lesser security for the user, unless
re-inventing KWallet.

The best I could do is to have the resource not store any password and prompt
the user for it at each start.

For davmail are the URLs that appear in your configuration file
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278420#c9) standard, and can they be used
as a template? Adding this is a matter of minutes, but will not be shipped
before KDE SC 4.8 (there are translations issues).

Finally regarding the Abort this was fixed in KDE SC 4.7 iirc. Though I'm not
sure when I committed this, so I may very well be wrong and in that case it'll
be in KDE SC 4.8.

Cheers,
Grégory

[Bug 283211] New: start only those resources which are necessary

2011-10-02 Thread Stefan Majewsky
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283211

Summary: start only those resources which are necessary
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: server
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: majew...@gmx.net

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.1)
OS:Linux

I don't use Akonadi that often. The only application which really uses it at
the moment is KMail, but that's only one of two computers. Still, when I log
in, the Akonadi server is started because the calendar applet in the clock
applet wants to read my calendar. (I know that this can be deactivated, but I'm
talking about the default behavior. And of course it's sane to expose this
feature by default.)

The situation is: One application wants to read one specific kind of data
(calendar events), and Akonadi launches each and every resource within reach.
That's a whopping 23 processes on this machine, translating into a whole 100 MB
of used memory. A big part of this is the POP3 resources and the maildir
resource, so if I don't launch KMail, too, big parts of these resources are
down the drain for no good reason.

As you see, both the startup time and combined memory consumption of
Akonadi-enabled applications and (through the clock applet) the workspace as a
whole can be improved by letting the akonadiserver start only these resources
which are relevant for the data to be requested.

I do not know whether such an extension to the Akonadi protocol is possible or
feasible. From the outsider's view, it should suffice if both applications and
resources could advertise the type of content they're dealing with. I really
hope it's simple as that.

Reproducible: Didn't try

[Bug 283212] New: disable nepomuk feeders when nepomuk is disabled

2011-10-02 Thread Stefan Majewsky
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283212

Summary: disable nepomuk feeders when nepomuk is disabled
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Nepomuk Feeder Agents
AssignedTo: to...@kde.org
ReportedBy: majew...@gmx.net
CC: vkra...@kde.org, kdepim-bugs@kde.org

Version: unspecified
OS:Linux

I actually wonder why nobody requested this before, but a search turned up
nothing, so...

Please disable the Nepomuk Feeder Agents when Nepomuk is disabled. Bonus points
for activating and deactivating them in the moment when I activate or
deactivate Nepomuk in its KCM.

According to ironythe arguably most precise memory benchmark in the free
world (ksysguard)/irony, this simple change could save at least 22 MB of RAM
on my system when Akonadi is active.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Bug 283212 goes in a similar direction, but I consider it a separate problem
and therefore opened it as a separate bug.
