[Bug 285676] akonadi blocks kmail because of searching for bogus emails

2011-12-12 Thread Roland Hautz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=285676

--- Comment #24 from Roland Hautz 2011-12-13 07:58:47 ---
The problem disappeared for me since I updated the whole KDE from 4.7.3 to
4.7.4

BTW, it had nothing to do with sqlite, I'm using postgresql

[Bug 288869] New: If backend is unavailable local cache is hosed

2011-12-12 Thread Thomas Olsen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=288869

Summary: If backend is unavailable local cache is hosed
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: DAV Resource
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: tho...@tanghus.net

I have a CalDAV and a CardDAV resource which both points to a remote ownCloud
instance. If the server doesn't respond for a while I set the resources to
offline to avoid annoying notifications.
If Akonadi is restarted the local cache is trashed and the resources wont sync
when I set them to online again. The only solution afaik is to delete the
resources and add them again.

Regarding the version asked for when adding this bug I presumed it was the KDE
version. I don't know how to query the version of the resources, but akonadictl
reports 'Akonadi 1.6.2'. I'm on KDE 4.7.3.

[Bug 288868] New: Importing old kmail maildir either crashes or the result is unuseable slow

2011-12-12 Thread Michael Gerdau
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=288868

Summary: Importing old kmail maildir either crashes or the
result is unuseable slow
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: m...@qata.de

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS:Linux

On an working openSUSE 11.4 I did a systemupgrade to 12.1. This resulted in a
catastrophe due to a completely broken migration tool from kmail to kmail2.

After several days of unsuccessful tinkering and reading lots of inet forums
about people having exactly the same probs as I had I eventually decided to
drop on this and do a fresh install. The rest deals with the problems I
encountered there.

On a freshly installed openSUSE 12.1 (stock version; KDE 4.7.2) I had tried to
import my old kmail maildir tree with all my old msgs. These are several 100k
msgs and about 2-3 GB in size.

First try the importer "vanished" for no apparent reason after being about 2/3
through. Selecting some of the imported folders to check whether they had been
properly imported took ages - I had to wait several 10s of seconds (didn't
measure the exact time - it was way too long to be workable; I'm on a RAID with
a recent quadcore processor and 16GB of RAM).

I then tried to reimport, checking "ignore dublicated msgs". This time it got
through. However the result was unworkably slow. Clicking on a mailfolder with
just a handful of msgs resulted in heavy diskload and ages of waiting.

I then decided to delete the whole akonadi DB stuff and restart from scratch.
Basically the result was unchanged. After some inet research I decided to
upgrade my KDE to the current stable released branch as of openSUSE
buildservice which currently is KDE 4.7.4.

I removed all kmail2 and akonadi configurations and started from scratch - or
so I think.

The import process still does not go though but crashes somewhere midway. Only
improvement is that the result seems to be reasonably fast in that now after a
click on a mailfolder the response is acceptably fast.

I then tried to repeat the crashed import (ignore dublicates checked) which
just stopped working for no apparent reason after a short time - the importer
window just "hang".

In light of all the other problems I find it almost neglectable that all
information about mails being read/unread/marked are completely lost during
import.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
see above

Actual Results:
The import does either crash, hang or the result is unacceptably slow.

Expected Results:
The import should just not crash and import all messages and the result should
be workable in that it should be at least as fast as it was with the previous
kmail (without akonadi)

The whole import process takes roughly a day and severely hinders other work on
the system, not to speak about email being a core component of my daily
workflow.

>From my perspective the whole akonadi/kmail2 combo is not ready for primetime.

The migration tool is alpha or early beta at most. The importer IMO has
definitely beta status.

I wonder how kmail2 together with akonadi made it into the KDE stable branch.

I've installed KDE SC 4.7.90, including kdepim at that level. And not only do
I not see my portage emails (delivered via postfix) being filtered into the
appropriate folder, but my "spam" button on the top of the screen doesn't want
to move messages into the trash folder, either.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

kontact (4.7.2) on KDE Platform 4.7.2 (4.7.2) using Qt 4.7.4

- What I was doing when the application crashed: not certain about count being
out of sync but definitely reproducable when just deleting (i.e. in a
subfolder) the top most message (sorting by date, newest on top) and after
deleting the focus "get's lost". Trying to come back into focus somewhere by
using the arrow keys lets Kmail crash.

--- Comment #43 from Alexander Stein 2011-12-12 13:26:55 ---
I upgraded to 4.7.3 (Gnetoo stable) from 4.4.11 and also noticed the Mail
filter problem. Filter on POP3 accounts works, but on IMAP it doesn't.
Appllying filters manually works, but only on already fetched mails. So Ctrl+A
and Ctrl+J does only work on mais previosly fetched (same for click and
shift+click to get a list).
But i noticed something interesting: Filter _do_ work on IMAP accounts, if I
filter on To, rather than List-ID for mailing lists. This obviously only works
for initial mails and not replies.
So I launched the Filter Log Viewer and noticed the following filter output on
a mail i wrote to myself in To and CC:
--

[Bug 288792] New: data loss: kmail2 must not use existing [Folder-xy] settings on random new folders

2011-12-12 Thread S . Burmeister
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=288792

Summary: data loss: kmail2 must not use existing [Folder-xy]
settings on random new folders
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: sven.burmeis...@gmx.net

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.2)
OS:Linux

If this is more of an akonadi issue please re-assign.

If one removes a resource kmail2rc keeps its [Folder-xy] settings including
expiration settings. If one adds a new resource kmail2 will re-use those
settings for the new folders.

This means that some folder of the new resource is expired although the user
never set any expiration for it and hence loses data.

Kmail keeping old settings or to be more precise, not using unique-IDs for
folders does also result in filters filtering to wrong folders instead of
having no destination because the destination folder was removed and the new
one just happens to get the same number when a new resource was added.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Have lots of folders in different resources.
Check kmail2rc and its [Folder-xy] settings
Remove a resource via systemsettings > personal information while kmail2 is not
running
Add another resource with different but the same number of folders

Actual Results:
Open kmail2 and see that it happily applies the settings for the old folders to
the new resource.

Expected Results:
Never ever use folder settings on a folder they do not belong to.
Use unique IDs or something else to guarantee that this does not happen
