In 4.7.x/4.8 we can select multi folder and apply mark all as read
I will not add this feature because if I have (as in my KMail)
- KDE
   - kde-pim
   - kde-commit
   - kde-devel

if by error I click mark all as read all my subfolder will make as read.
I want to define which folder I want to mark as read.

And I will not add an other menu entry for it. Kmail has already a lot of menu
entry

One possible reason to have this option is when you have gmail imap account -
then it doesn't make sense to index each e-mail several times in different
folders labels, indexing the All folder is enough.

BTW - does anyone know where this option is set in config files?

[Bug 163393] first run: allow just run KMail (skip the wizard)

2011-12-21 Thread Maciej Pilichowski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163393

--- Comment #3 from Maciej Pilichowski bluedzins wp pl 2011-12-21 10:55:08
---
Let me start by saying, that I consider myself as power user, however I also
help weekend users to run computers, among them -- my Mom.

So first of all, I am a bit suspicious -- your Mom (as I understood it) is not
an expert, but she installs and configures KMail by herself? For me it is the
first contradiction (i.e. I am doubtful). The second contradiction is this --
your Mom (or in general, any weekend user) is supposed to understand all the
stuff with IMAP/POP3, SSL, plain text, and so on, no problem here, but there
_is_ problem with clicking settings/configure KMail? Somehow I cannot believe
it.

Wizard is not shown once. It is shown each time for every not-configured KMail.
And I saw it already too many times.

And few remarks of general nature. Good solutions scale up. If startup wizard
is such a good solution we should introduce it everywhere -- Dolphin,
Konqueror, Gwenview, KDE itself, and so on and on. Really?

IMHO -- no. It is counter productive. Ideally, installing and running program
should not require any user interaction -- it means no EULA's, not installation
wizards, no startup wizards. Program should not force user to do anything, it
should let do it. This is significant difference.

Programs should be usable, user-friendly, that's for sure, but they should not
undermine productivity -- if they do, they are more like toys, not tools.

The install of openSUSE iseasy enough for my Mom, yes.

And to remove te contradiction: No, she should not have to know about IMAP/POP3
etc. The wizard should know the right values that belong to her email-address.
It ain't hard to learn Kmail the biggest 10 e-mail services and their values
for noobies. Ifaik it will resolve the issue of knowing such values for 80% of
the home-users. Bussiness-users have their ICT-supportdesk to ask for some help
:P I don't know if it is possible to poll al server, but if that's possible we
could at least guess one time and propose the configuration.

The wizard is shown once, cause you are supposed to set up Kmail the first
time. Why should someone start Kmail twice without configuring it aka using it?

Good solutions do scale up. That's why I get a wizard since KDE 4.8 when
configuring Akonadi as a resource for contacts, first start of Amarok (where is
your music boy?) and Digikam. Every rogramm that needs to be configued before
use, should have an easy wizard that helps you setting the most important
values.

How come you see the wizard so often? I see it once every clean profile
(like:twice a year)

Thanks,

I'll look deeper into this issue but my initial thought is that your formatting
is lost due to the formatting that KMail adds for the header/crypt/...
formatting.
Ie, the viewer is quite capable of using css for markup but we might need to
adjust the internal css as to nit collide with common formatting.

I also noticed this issue by accident because some of my mails did not show an
attachement-symbol even though there was an attachement.

This really is a big problem because I do a lot of searching for attachements
(invoices etc.). When this search is not giving any reliable results anymore,
than at least remove this feature (searching for attachements) completely.
Because otherwise the user is left completely in the trust that all the results
he obtained are true, which is NOT the case.

Besides, at my kmail the attachement icon doesnt even appear when I click on
the mails. It just shows that there is no attachement, even if there is...

[Bug 163393] first run: allow just run KMail (skip the wizard)

2011-12-21 Thread Maciej Pilichowski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163393

--- Comment #5 from Maciej Pilichowski bluedzins wp pl 2011-12-21 19:50:48
---
Just to clarify, I am not against possibility of running wizard, I am against
startup wizard. And again if user is so tech-savvy to install an app, and
configure it, she/he is able to click one item in the menu. After all, in case
of KMail, how is user supposed to reply to mail (one item on toolbar or menu)
if she/he cannot do the same for another item?

Ifaik it will resolve the issue of knowing such values for 80% of
 the home-users.

Could you please tell my where you get those data from?

Why should someone start Kmail twice without configuring it aka using it?

Because the system was reinstalled. Because it is another user. Because it is
another computer.

That's why I get a wizard since KDE 4.8 when
configuring Akonadi as a resource for contacts,

No, that's why many developers do not have clue about usability and
accessibility. The candy-effect pays off better than hard work on usability.

That is why we have all the are you sure crap instead of undo, that is why
why we have all the tips of the day junk, that is why we have more and more
EULA's.

The fact world is shifting in some direction is not a _proof_ the one is right.

Every rogramm that needs to be configued before
use, should have an easy wizard that helps you setting the most important
 values.

AGAIN, they can have wizards, no problem, but no STARTUP wizards.

Use cases (just examples):
* Kmail -- I am evaluating import feature to compare it to Thunderbird, what do
I need full setup at start for?
* Amarok -- I would like to play some audio file, right now, sorry, but I don't
need any setup, album settings, and so on

If you wonder where this lead, observe Windows -- it is great example of your
vision of user-friendliness, you cannot touch app before stating if you want
search button with it, toolbar in FF, location, file association, and so on and
on and on. And when you have to reinstall the system, or something like this,
you get sick, before you even start.

Bottom line is -- usability matters. One of its principle is this -- user is in
control. Software should allow do things, not push the user around.

And btw. what do you need configuration in the first place (in case of KMail)?
Sending and getting mail? Then why not adding little check on those two
actions:

if (program_is_not_configured_yet)
  run_wizard();

?

Such transparent design pays off, because user sees interruptions in his/her
workflow ONLY when it is needed, not just in case. So the user experience is
much more smooth.

I deleted the IMAP account and re-added it. The problem of not being able to

After restarting (because akonadi_email_feeder was killing my CPU), I am back

assumed it does not. I never experienced something else)

[Bug 289524] New: Articles are deleted as soon as they read

2011-12-21 Thread Andy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289524

Summary: Articles are deleted as soon as they read
   Product: akregator
   Version: 4.7 pre
  Platform: Unlisted Binaries
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kontact plugin
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: andy.pa...@gmail.com

Version: 4.7 pre (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS:Linux

For some reason, ever since I upgraded to KDE 4.7, Akregator (from within
Kontact) will delete an article if I mark it as read. The article isn't deleted
right away. It only gets removed when I switch to another feed and switch back
to the first one.

I am not sure if I changed something. The only option I could find was to have
Akregator delete articles after a certain number of days. Regardless of what
value I set this option at the articles are always deleted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
(1) Set Mark selected article read after 0 seconds
(2) View the list of articles in a feed.
(3) Click on a new article. It will get changed to the read status.
(4) Click on a different feed.
(5) Click back to the feed in step #2. The article will have magically
disappeared.

Actual Results:
The article that I didn't want to get deleted was deleted.

Expected Results:
I would like the article to not be deleted after I read it.

[Bug 284386] kmail2 compose word wrap on window boarder not working

2011-12-21 Thread Tobias Weiblen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284386

--- Comment #9 from Tobias Weiblen t-weiblen gmx de 2011-12-21 21:54:58 ---
Hi botan,

the Options - Wordwrap in KMail Composer (Snapshot 108) has always toggled the
static word wrap. No option for dynamic wrap.

Before the infamous URL bugfix in 4.7.2, dynamic word wrap was always on (and
functional) by default. Don't see a reason why someone would not want dynamic
word wrap in an e-mail composer window (not the place for source code or
similar stuff where dynamic word wrap would harm).

I agree it would be nice to have both options (as in Kate) but reverting the
URL bugfix would probably also do for most users and be almost zero effort.

Could anyone more familiar with KDE bug tracker tell us if voting for a
Wontfix bug as proposed by Murz will work or should a new bug report be
opened and voted for?

Thanks
xxtobi

Actual Results:
An invitation confirmation with strange to and from addresses was generated by
kMail or kOrganizer: (See Details field above.)

It had my own address as the To address, the creator's address as the From
address, and requested me to confirm the confirmation as the meeting's Sitz,
which is a wrong translation of Chair in this context. Leiter would
probably be the correct translation.

Expected Results:
The confirmation should have been sent to the event's creator, not to me. (To
and From were swapped.)
Additionally, the German translation of its text was wrong, correct would be:

Ihre Antwort als Leiter wird erbeten.

The set of presented options is also strange for the meeting's creator /
organizer.

[Bug 289534] New: Attachments within GPG-encrypted mails cannot be saved

After decryption, the ciphertext results in an embedded MIME message, which in
turn contains an attachment.

The embedded message is displayed after decryption, including the attachment
which is shown as a link the message window, but the message structure view
displayed by kMail does not change and the attachment link is not effective,
clicking it is a no-op.

Actually there seems to be no way to save the deencrypted attachment using
kmail2. This worked file with kmail 1.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Receive an exncrypted message structures as described above.

Actual Results:
An attachment is displayed as a link inside the message window, but the link
cannot be opened / downloaded. There does not seem to be any way to view or
save the attachment.

Expected Results:
The link / attachment should be downloadable / saveable.

[Bug 283887] timeout on unread status doesn't work properly

--- Comment #6 from Fabio Rossi rossi f inwind it 2011-12-21 23:12:33 ---
Reopening, just tested with kmail 4.7.4. It *almost* works but there is a
trivial problem. Let's assume there are two unread messages B and C while we're
looking at read message A.

To reproduce the problem:

1) select message B
2) quickly reselect A before the timer specified in Misc - Mark selected
message as read after expires; in this way B is still unread (correctly)
3) now reselect B for a longer period than the timer, in this case the message
is never marked read (wrong!)
4) now select C and wait for the timer to expire; C is marked as read
5) only now you can select B and it'll be marked as read after the timer
expires

Let me know if something is not clear

[Bug 289475] [Akonadi Nepomuk Feeder] 100% CPU waste, if I try to index mail.

2011-12-21 Thread Alejandro Nova
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289475

--- Comment #1 from Alejandro Nova alejandronova gmail com 2011-12-22
01:46:15 ---
This improved A LOT after I deleted my Akonadi database and recreated it. Even
though there are bugs and mail indexing remains slow, points number 1 and 2 are
accomplished.

- Virtuoso gets a peak of 45% CPU usage, on both my cores (total: 90%). There
is a remaining 10% to 20% used by nepomukstorage. So, that's normal. 90% of the
time, however, CPU usage is less than 10%, and Akonadi eats no CPU.
- I don't need to strace; the behavior is radically different from what I saw
before.
- Indexing, however, remains super slow.

Conclusions:

1. You have to forcefully delete outdated databases, as part of an upgrade.
2. Please, speed up mail indexing.

You haven't heard from me about this because quite frankly... I fired the
latest Ubuntu release and went back to 11.04. I do notlike Unity and I do not
appreciate KDE changing to the new K-Mail format which caused me to loose much
of my e-mail history.
