[Bug 290308] New: Archiving folders after connecting to IMAP results in empty archive
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290308 Summary: Archiving folders after connecting to IMAP results in empty archive Product: kmail2 Version: 4.8 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: general AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: bartosc...@gmx.de Version: 4.8 (using Devel) OS:Linux I connect to an IMAP-Server with thousands of messages. As soon as the server appears in the folder list I select one folder with about 100 subfolders and in sum 15000 mails. I then select archiving this folder. The operation quickly finishes and results in an empty archive. The folder strucuture is in the archive. But there are no mails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: See above. Actual Results: See above. Expected Results: A correct archive of the folder. It is obvious that some mails can be missing in an archive that arrived after archive creation has been triggered. But mails that are already on the server have to be archived correctly. The serverity of this bug is Major because if the user does not check he will use his mails. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs
[Bug 290311] New: Archiving folders is not robust
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290311 Summary: Archiving folders is not robust Product: kmail2 Version: 4.8 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: bartosc...@gmx.de Version: 4.8 (using Devel) OS:Linux If there is a network glitch during archiving folders from an IMAP server the operation is aborted. This makes it nearly impossible to archive large folder structures. Even the connection to google mail is sometimes disconnected. In such a situation archiving should resume the operation or give the user the time to fix the network connection and then allow resuming of the operation. There are other reasons to be more robust: - DSL connections are often disconnected by the providers once a day - Mobile connections are extremely unreliable and often have to be resetted. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Try to archive 8 GiB of mails from an IMAP-Server and then simulate a network connection failure. Actual Results: Archiving is aborted. However, the mail folder listing in KMail shows all emails as done moving. There's no indication in the UI anywhere that the copy is still going. The effects of this are: 1) no idea when it's safe to shut down or suspend the computer 2) some actions that require interaction with the IMAP agent are not responsive, such as checking a folder properties Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1) select some emails in a folder 2) move them to another folder in the same IMAP server (I used the 'm' keyboard shortcut) Actual Results: Emails shown moved immediately, no other UI shows that the IMAP agent is still working Expected Results: Emails should be moved gradually on the UI as they are moved on the server. At the very least, the IMAP agent should show that it's busy somehow. [Bug 290317] New: KMail sometimes shows only a spinning wheel for a folder, no contents
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290317 Summary: KMail sometimes shows only a spinning wheel for a folder, no contents Product: kmail2 Version: Git (master) Platform: Compiled Sources OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: folders AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: thi...@kde.org Version: Git (master) (using Devel) OS:Linux Sometimes, after starting, KMail shows one or more folders with the spinning wheel indication that it's working. While it's normal for it to do that for large folders that haven't been used in a while, this happens on start up and does not go away for some folders. Often, in this situation KMail displays an error dialog saying Unknown error. (Unable to fetch item from backend) I am unable to read any emails that were present in the folder when KMail started. Newly arrived emails show up, though. To make this problem go away, I need to completely stop both KMail and Akonadi and it takes a few tries. I *think* it's associated with a background job that is still running but has no visible UI indication. That might explain why stopping Akonadi causes it. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1) start KMail 2) close KMail, don't stop akonadi 3) start KMail again Actual Results: Some folders (especially the root INBOX folder on my IMAP server) are not usable at all, even if I wait a long time. The copying of only email headers has happened to me before, usually when I copied emails for which KMail/Akonadi had only downloaded the headers. It doesn't download the email bodies before re-uploading them. Now I've got another: somehow it failed to copy anything at all. It tells me the emails have been uploaded, but they have not. In fact, this was a move, not a copy. It was supposed to do UID COPY, but that somehow failed with no visible error indication. So Akonadi thinks the emails are in the destination folders, but they aren't. After the copy was complete, it proceeded to delete the original emails. Now the server has no copy of the emails. [Bug 290332] New: Overhaul UI of 'Security' settings in config
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290332 Summary: Overhaul UI of 'Security' settings in config Product: kmail2 Version: 4.8 Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: config dialog AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: pan...@kriko.org Version: 4.8 (using Devel) OS:Linux The Security settings are quite confusing with very different security features grouped together and quite a number of settings dumped into a Miscellaneous tab. The use of a Miscellaneous section is usually an indication of a not-so-well-conceived UI. For example, settings like Warn when trying to send unsigned messages certainly belong to the Composing tab. Probably this is the case for all settings in the Miscellaneous tab. The threshold setting for Warn if certificates/Keys expire soon should probably be hidden in a configure thresholds dialog as they add unnecessary complexity to the UI, while being initially all the same (= 14 days) and rarely changed. Also, the S/MIME validation settings should probably go to a respective dialog, too, as they are utterly complex, while there is usually no need to change them even for the few people using KMail with S/MIME. Certainly it would be a good idea to doublecheck which security options make more sense on a per-identity basis and/or whether a default configuration that may be overwritten per-identity (such as with templates) would make sense. I leave this to be tackled in another ticket. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269808 --- Comment #11 from Patrick Spendrin ps_ml gmx de 2012-01-01 17:56:45 --- ok, I played around with this bug (I tried the kmymoney one, but it is essentially the same). The problem does *not* happen because of the gpgme stack, but instead it is a compiler bug: if you hand over a std::string over dll boundaries, a heap corruption will take place. I talked to the mingw-w64 people and they pointed me to the --enable-fully-dynamic-string option when building the compiler (check gcc -v to see the build flags). That one is definitely missing from the sezero build we use at the moment (it is a heavily backported gcc 4.4.7). I tried out the 4.5 build from sezero which doesn't seem to set this flag as well. A small test program compiles fine and doesn't crash anymore, I cannot try out with kdepim nor with mymoney since my build fails in phonon due to a cxx_abi* linker issue. I'll add an updated test program for the heap corruption in a minute. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

[Bug 290353] New: kmail loses emails during recursive refresh
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290353 Summary: kmail loses emails during recursive refresh Product: kontact Version: 4.7.2 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: mail AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: br...@clisp.org Version: 4.7.2 (using KDE 4.7.3) OS:Linux In kmail 4.7.4. Using a old kmail-formatted maildir (mixedmaildir). In the folders tree, I selected a folder with many subfolders and pressed Ctrl-F5 (recursive refresh). There was no visible sign of progress (probably because the medium is a slow USB 1.1 disk). I pressed Ctrl-F5 (recursive refresh) again. Then, after a long processing time, I found that in some (few) folders some mails have been removed (compared to a backup a made just before the operation). Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: Press Ctrl-F5 two or more times on a folder (in a mixedmaildir resource) with many subfolders. Actual Results: Some of the mailbox files are modified: some mails are simply deleted. In some case it were 1-3 mails at the end of the mailbox file; in other cases apparently random mails inside the mailbox file. [Bug 290355] New: akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource consumes too much memory
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290355 Summary: akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource consumes too much memory Product: kontact Version: 4.7.2 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: mail AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: br...@clisp.org Version: 4.7.2 (using KDE 4.7.3) OS:Linux kmail 4.7.4, akonadi 4.7.4. I imported an archive of 1 GB of old mails into kmail by adding a local kmail maildir in the settings, then pressed Ctrl-F5 (recursive refresh). It took a while, produced a database of 0.5 GB on disk, and after that, there was an akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource process that took ca. 2.4 GB of virtual memory and 1.8 GB of resident memory (= 50% of RAM on a 4 GB machine). Every kmail operation (view a mail, select different folder, etc.) triggered massive disk activity. Often, the akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource process took over 100% of CPU time for several minutes. The situation lasted until I logged out, which happened to terminate the akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource process. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: Add a local kmail maildir resource for 1 GB of old mail. Press Ctrl-F5 (recursive refresh on it) in the folder view. Wait until it's refreshed. Try to view different folders - sluggish and slow. Close and restart kmail. Try to view different folders - still sluggish and slow. Actual Results: An akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource process eats of 2 GB of RAM and lots of CPU time. Expected Results: Regardless of the total size of mailboxes to refresh, the total size of the kmail related processes (including akonadi* and mysqld) should remain bounded below 200 MB. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235848 --- Comment #8 from grepper grepper gmail com 2012-01-02 00:12:36 --- (In reply to comment #7) I am seeing this behavior on debian sid Qt: 4.7.3 KDE Development Platform: 4.6.5 (4.6.5) KNotes: 3.9 If I create a new user or move ~/.kde directory to a new name, the annoying behavior goes away. But I am not about to rename my .kde directory and lose all my settings etc, so this is a show stopper for me. I have tried just renaming individual config or app directories that seemed appropriate, like knotesrc, ~/.kde/share/apps/knotes/, ~/.kde/share/apps/kontact/ , but to no avail. Update: Strangely, days with this problem, I noticed kded4 was not running after a notice when trying to configure something in System Settings. Starting it solved the issue. Why kded4 seems to stop running from time to time I am not sure. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

However, sometimes, on the server it's not moved at all. It simply disappears. This is data loss. I lost over 54k emails today because of this. The test folder with 2 was moved properly. It might be that the IMAP agent was busy in the background doing some non-visible tasks when I moved. I did restart Akonadi a few times this afternoon. The folder's disappearance happened after I restarted it -- I am sure I could see it before one of the restarts, though I cannot verify that the data was still on the server. I restarted Akonadi because it would not update the folder list. Please, please, PLEASE make *ALL* and every single activity show up in the UI. It is really a pity. I did some analysis. If I understand correctly, ArticleViewer::slotCopy() is where the copying happens. And here comes the real problem behind this report : it is not that the method is buggy in putting selected contents onto clipboard, but that the methode is not triggered at all when I press Ctrl+C. And that is because the 'Copy' action is plugged only when the context menu is shown. So Ctrl+C, the well known shortcut for the 'Copy' action, does not work. I wonder whether that is an coding mistake, or an intentional decision to provide 'Copy' action only through context menu (is there some good reason?). Anyway, it should be relatively easy to fix for those who are familiar with the code. Frankly, I'm neither familiar with the code nor the application.
