[Bug 293013] New: dataloss: missing message bodies ON THE IMAP SERVER

2012-01-31 Thread piedro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293013

Summary: dataloss: missing message bodies ON THE IMAP SERVER
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.8
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: piedro.kul...@googlemail.com

Version: 4.8 (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS:Linux

I thought, I am having an akonadi or some other local problem.

But somehow Kmail2 deletes the mailbodies of some incoming mails on the IMAP
Server. All my IMAP-accounts are effected! I doublechecked directly on the
servers: completely empty mails! Less than 1KB file size ...

In addition it produces multiple duplicates (50+) of some of these contentless
mails with only minimal headers ... This behaviour stopped after two days after
updating to KDE 4.8. Since yesterday it started again ...

To be honest, I am frustrated, important stuff got lost.

thx for reading,
piedro

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
I don't know how to reproduce ... I am not an expert, sry,
see above ...

Actual Results:
I don't know how to reproduce ... I am not an expert, sry.
see above

Expected Results:
Instead the software shouldn't delete the message bodies, especially under no
circumstances synchronize the empty mails with THE IMAP SERVER.

I've got the same problem here, also with a courier imap mail server. I found
out some points:

- Creating an account on a courier server and enabling the server side
subscription of folders causes the inbox to be not synced. Creating another
account with the exact same settings, except fully disabling the server side
subscription works.

- Creating the account with the server side subscription will result in the
following settings for the inbox (I used akonadiconsole):
  - All ACL permissions are disabled
  - The attribute "noselect" is set to "1"
  - The "Content types" lists only "inode/directory" but not "message/rfc822"
Setting some useful ACLs, deleting the "noselect" attribute, adding
"message/rfc822" and manually staring a sync causes KMail to download the
messages that are currently in the folder. Sadly this settings gets overwritten
and after that no new mail gets loaded to the inbox without repeating the
steps.

- I didn't test the problem on other mailservers, but I think it is an issue
with the courier server. I am using courier 4.8 (Debian squeeze) with SSL
encryption.

- The problem might be the same than in Bug 283841

- I also found some old kmail 1 bugs, that might be relevant: Bug 191280 , Bug
243318

Application: kontact (4.8.0)
KDE Platform Version: 4.8.00 (4.8.0
Qt Version: 4.7.4
Operating System: Linux 3.0.0-16-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 11.10

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

i encountered this after wiping my Akonadi settings and starting with a clean
Akonadi/PostgreSQL setup. here's what i did (roughly--i might be forgetting
something) after starting Akonadi and verifying that it worked.

1. i set up one IMAP account connected to a rather large Gmail account.
2. i clicked on the inbox to see the progress of loading its message list.
3. i right-clicked the inbox and chose the option to open its properties.
4. i configured some of KMail's layout, fonts, and colors via its settings
window.
5. the inbox's properties finally loaded. i selected and applied the option to
always download entire messages.
6. i clicked on my sent mail folder to see if it was populated yet. it was
empty. i poked a few others that were similarly empty. i might have tried to
open another's folder properties.
7. i switched back to the inbox to see how it was progressing. it seemed to be
stuck on 11 days before the present.
8. i closed KMail.

KMail crashed a few seconds after i exited it.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

the inbox was stuck loading the message list. the progress bar showed 100%.
all other folders were empty (judging by the few that i poked) and apparently
not loading.

The crash does not seem to be reproducible.

[Bug 285937] After Upgrade, now I have "Local Folders" and "Kmail Folders"

2012-01-31 Thread Brendan Barry
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=285937

19:55:14 ---
It was duplicated and all messed up.

What I did so far to straighten it out more...

Deleted ALL KDE resources that pointed to Maildir folders and created JUST ONE
that pointed to the Mail-old folder that my Kmail1 data/mails were in. I blew
away all configuration, because kmail2 is so insanely-messed up that it didn't
seem to want to start with my old, and even migrated config.

Then this left the problem of the mbox files I had. Kmail didn't even attempt
to convert them, so I had to do it, manually through the "Import Messages From"
menu item.

This has cleaned up the structure. Kmail still doesn't work, but this bug is
DEFINITELY still there.

[Bug 259949] Kmail does not use all addressbooks for autocompletion

--- Comment #53 from Paul 2012-01-31 19:12:13 ---
Unfortunately, I can confirm the same for KDE 4.8 on Gentoo. The only thing
that still works for me are recent addresses. No autocompletion from any
address books at all.

The phonon-xine backend is unmaintained and unsupported since months as
announced a few months ago:
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-announce&m=130744384419151

All recent crashes involving the phonon+xine combinaison are now closed as
'unmaintained'

This is happened the same day I upgrade to kde 4.8.0, thus akregator
incorrectly reported 4.7.2 but was indeed updated to version 4.8.0.

After rebooting akregator version is 4.8.0, so nothing to fix.

> (and make sure you don't use the phonon-xine backend)

I switched to phonon-gstreamer backend and this indeed solves the issue.
Could you please point me to extra information regarding phonon-xine issue (or
if there is some criteria to choose the backend)?

The auto-completion does not work at all in KDE 4.8, Kubuntu 11.10. All
settings in address books, resources, etc are set correctly. Also Kmail
settings for autocompletion is set. But does not work even after restarting the

[Bug 284703] kmail stop sending mail

2012-01-31 Thread Yngve Levinsen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284703

--- Comment #8 from Yngve Levinsen 2012-01-31
13:53:43 ---
Hmm, interesting, problem is back.

1) does the Mail Dispatcher Agent running (you can check in akonadiconsole)
Yes, it states "sending: (0%)"

2) if yes, is it online?
Yes, status is "Online, Running (0%)"

3) do you have an MBOX account?
I have maildir account, but no mbox accounts if I understand correctly.

4) if you run a mail check in KMail, can you see it checks all your
accounts?
Yes, it does. I still receive e-mails.

5) can you send the mails by right-clicking on Outbox and using Send Queued
Messages?
Hmm, strange, I don't see that option by right-clicking the outbox folder.
Perhaps I misunderstood something. In the "File" menu, the "Send queued
messages" is greyed out.

I apologize, but these are work e-mails so I have to send them. There was no
indication this time that the e-mails weren't sent, and nothing I found that
could fix the problem other than restarting Kontact.

After a restart of Kontact, the option to "send queued messages" appeared in
the right click menu of the outbox again. When clicking that, I got asked to
open my KWallet again.

I am using Chakra Linux, with KDE 4.7.4 installed. It is difficult for me to
give you a lot of info because usually when it happens it is confusing for me
what is going on, and I usually need to send the e-mails immediately when I
figure out. This time some of the e-mails had been sitting there for three
hours. I do not believe I have done a lot of strange configuring this time.
Please let me know if there are more tests I can do if it happens again.

Before this happened I can say that I the computer was suspended to memory,
brought to work, opened and then I tried to send e-mails. I thought I restarted
Kontact but perhaps I didn't. I am using "internal mysql" if that makes a
difference.

--- Comment #23 from Andrew Gaydenko 2012-01-31 13:48:52 ---
At my case (4.8 under Arch) very often the error message appears on the second
sequential search - the first search completes without errors (but skipping
matched messages - this is another very sad story). Saying "sequential" I mean
the same opened search dialog instance. So, I can close the dialog, open it
again and get next first search results without error.

[Bug 292955] New: Summary view without Nepomuk and sqlite backend can block kontact for a long time

2012-01-31 Thread Andre Heinecke
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292955

Summary: Summary view without Nepomuk and sqlite backend can
block kontact for a long time
   Product: kontact
   Version: 4.8.x
  Platform: MS Windows
OS/Version: MS Windows
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: planner summary
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: aheine...@intevation.de

Version: 4.8.x (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS:MS Windows

Triggering the summary view causes Kontact to launch a multitude of item fetch
jobs, which take increasingly long to complete all the while akonadi is blocked
(probably because of sqlite) and things in the GUI fail / freeze etc.
The Jobs are started by the ApptsSummaryWidget.

During this time akonadi shows no cpu activity but the Kontact process eats up
one core.

After all jobs are ended (~4:30s in my setup) everything is back to normal and
opening the summary again works fine.

I can only reproduce this completly reliable in one setup with three accounts
of average size (1.61GB akonadi database). On a smaller setup i could not
reproduce this reliable but it happened from time to time.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Open summary view,..

Expected Results:
Summary widget should be shown after max. 10 seconds

I have not yet tried to reproduce this with the same setup on linux.

header (mostly the "from" attribute) and move the mails into folders and marks
them as read. Sometimes new messages are duplicated. This also affects mails
that are passed through the filter but not modified, because the filter
condition does not apply.

The mails are not duplicated immediately but reemerge after a folder update,
especially after starting kmail. Suddenly mails that are already some days old
and have already been processed by the filter show up again.

I can observe the same behaviour as in comment #6. Not every mail that is
processed by some filter is affected, but if some mail is affected once, the
mail reappears over and over again. I have the feeling that a mail is more
likely to be affected if the filter has to process a lot of new mails at once.

[Bug 253108] KMail2 crashed while manipulating folders [assert, indexIsValid, KSelectionProxyModelPrivate::createTopLevelIndex, KSelectionProxyModel::index, Akonadi::EntityMimeTypeFilterModel::filterA

Thanks. I do still need more information though. I can't reproduce it.

Is this something that re-appeared recently?
Is this something that only appeared after a Qt upgrade?
Does it happen with all Akonadi applications?
Can you add some debug output above the assert with information relevant to the
assert? What is actually the inequality that is causing the assert to be hit?
Can you create a smaller testcase?

Yes, it's 100% reproducible here.

With the same scheme:

- imap account
--- Inbox
- Sub-Folder 1
- Sub-Folder 2
- Sub-Folder 3
- Sub-Folder 4
- Sub-Folder X

* selecting Sub-Folder 4 then Sub-Folder 2 works
* Selecting Sub-Folder [1-4] then Inbox works
* Only selecting the last subfolder then Inbox triggers the crash (X=29 in my
case)

I could not reproduce this.

Does it happen every time?
Is it something that newly re-appeared recently?
Can someone who can reproduce it give me a smaller testcase than kmail?

Hmm, interesting. Some time after (next sync maybe) the messages disappeared
from Inbox, so I guess actually they were moved, but message list was not
updated properly?

BTW, I use IMAP account.

In my case it happens with Inbox - I've waited long enough for KMail to start
etc (otherwise it hanged too much to use it anyway), but when I click "Move to
trash" button, message is grayed out for some seconds and then it'd normal
again, not having been moved.
