[Bug 310137] New: Nasty Unicode corruption bug when saving a contact to a remote CardDAV server
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310137 Bug ID: 310137 Severity: critical Version: 1.8.1 Priority: NOR Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Summary: Nasty Unicode corruption bug when saving a contact to a remote CardDAV server Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux Reporter: antonis+kdeb...@metadosis.gr Hardware: Ubuntu Packages Status: UNCONFIRMED Component: DAV Resource Product: Akonadi I'm not sure if the DAV resource is responsible for this, here goes anyway. I can reliably reproduce this bug in KDE 4.9.2-3 with the Radicale CalDAV/CardDAV server. Under some circumstances, if the Notes field of a contact contains non-ascii characters (I assume, I'm writing Greek in it), any non-ascii character in the *whole* contact (not only in the Notes field) will be corrupted. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new contact under a DAV resource's contacts folder 2. Fill its notes field with the following string: αβγδεζηθικλμνξοπρστυφχψωαβγδεζηθικλμνξοπρστυφχψωαβγδεζηθικλμνξοπρστυφχψωα (unquoted of course) 3. Save the contact, and wait for it to be transmitted to the CardDAV server Actual Results: The contact is transmitted corrupted to the server and Akonadi is none the wiser. Expected Results: The contact is transmitted intact to the server. I've noticed that these contacts when exported from Kaddressbook (or by looking at .local/share/contacts/) tend to break wide characters between lines. They are imported correctly however. I don't think this is server specific, however a pip install radicale should be enough for you to reproduce the bug; the server can be run right after being downloaded without configuration, and using a URL such as http://localhost:5232/myuser/mycontacts.vcf/;. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310141 Bug ID: 310141 Severity: minor Version: 4.9.3 Priority: NOR Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Summary: When responding to a message, From address gets truncatet on non-ASCII characters Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux Reporter: gons...@gmail.com Hardware: Ubuntu Packages Status: UNCONFIRMED Component: composer Product: kmail2 When you choose to respond a message and composer opens, if the From field gets autopopulated with an address that contains non-ASCII characters, it gets truncated, or at least if its an á. The domain I'm using is marcgonzález.com and its the default account when sending. When i choose to respond a message, address appears as xxx@marcgonz. The first time I responded to a message I didn't notice it was truncated so the receiving server said the address was not valid. Took some minutes to realize what the problem was. I understand that the domain is really xn--marcgonzlez-r7a.com, but it should be converted transparently to the user, like for example web browsers do. The domains apparently aren't being converted anywhere in Kmail (for example I have to configure the accounts as xn--marcgonzlez-r7a.com or they won't work), but I don't feel that's a bug, rather than a lack of a basic feature. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Receive a message 2.
