Is the load attachments on demand option still available in kmail2 resp.
Akonadi IMAP? I can't find it at all.
So we might want to close this bug ticket and open a new wishlist for that
functionality instead.

The title of this ticket is misleading.
Both the reporter and Andrey (comment #6) call for some confirmation dialog
such as Really send as HTML message?

I'm not sure we need a confirmation, a more subtle indication in the composer
might be better.
But anyway, this is still relevant for kmail2, component composer.

I'd agree to Torgny:
Allow external references for this sender by default is an absolute no go
securitywise.
But Prefer HTML is a sensible default for novice end users testing kmail.
Most of them will compare kmail to Gmail, Outlook, or Thunderbird, determining
if kmail does what they expect it to do. If it doesn't, they tend to abandon
using kmail.
More tech-affine kmail novices on the other hand will be able to make an
informed decision, so they're not the ones we need to cater primarily.

Seems to be a senseful proposal, especially for kmail with its plaintext-affine
user base.
At least such messages should be readable. Is this still not the case in
kmail2? Please enclose some testcase. Would be nice, if composer was able to
use this standard, too, because broken links in emails are a frequent
annoyance.

At least regarding the second part, but most probably completely valid for

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5694

--- Comment #16 from Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf pancho...@riseup.net ---
Hmm, you're right in that I can mark multiple folders in the folder sidebar and
then use the Search bar above the messagelist. So high importance is an
overstatement.

However, the more advanced Find Messages dialog doesn't offer a flexible
choice of folders. And as far as I can see, that's what this issue is about.
Find messages still only gives me the choice of searching all folders or just
a single one.

So, I'd still propose reopening this for kmail2 keeping normal importance,
but with a more specific issue summary.

Further to this, I'm seeing the same problem with an 'add header' action in the
filter (at least to filters applied before the mail is sent - haven't tried
other cases).

Having browsed the code a bit and put gdb on akonadi_mailfiter_agent, I'm
suspicious that something's going wrong in the execution of the
'Akonadi::ItemModifyJob' that's kicked off in
FilterManager::processContextItem.

I've stepped through to confirm that the modify job is started and returns
success - but the item's still unmodified.

The one thing I've not confirmed is that the item is actually modified by the
filter (can't immediately see how to check the relevant fields in gdb), but the
fact that both filter types are showing the same behaviour makes this seem
unlikely.

[Bug 310601] New: Reset font settings doesn't reset to Plain text

2012-11-24 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310601

Bug ID: 310601
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Reset font settings doesn't reset to Plain text
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: composer
   Product: kmail2

Even if the Reset font settings button wipes away HTML formatting, for some
reasons the mail still gets sent as HTML.
To reproduce it with a very simple one-word mail:

1. Compose a new message with the word Test
2. Mark the text

Scenario A:
3. Don't do any formatting.
4. Send to yourself
= received as Plain text = okay

Scenario B:
3. Don't do any formatting.
4. Reset font settings (superfluous)
5. Send to yourself
= received as Plain text = okay

Scenario C:
3. Format bold
4. Send to yourself
= received as HTML = okay

Scenario D:
3. Format bold
4. Reset font settings
5. Send to yourself
= received as HTML = wrong

Scenario E:
3. Format bold
4. Unformat bold
5. Send to yourself
= received as Plain text = okay

Scenario F:
3. Format bold
4. Unformat bold
5. Reset font settings (superfluous)
6. Send to yourself
= received as Plain text = wrong

Obviously, Reset font settings doesn't reset a composed mail to Plain text,
even if no formatting remains (scenario D).
Even more, if any formatting has ever been applied to the composed mail, Reset
font settings forces the mail to be send as HTML, even if no formatting
remained.

[Bug 223616] Add option to disable formatting in plain-text messages

2012-11-24 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=223616

--- Comment #7 from Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf pancho...@riseup.net ---
Created attachment 75448
  -- https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=75448action=edit
Testcase: eml file

This is still a wishlist item, rather than a bug, as long as real world
testcases, where this otherwise useful (and common) behaviour distorts the
message content, can't be fixed appropriately.
I prepared a testcase and comparing Thunderbird and Kmail rendering.

Firstly, Thunderbird renders *bold*, /italics/ and _underscore_ but doesn't
remove the markup.
This might be preferable because it ensures no information gets lost, though it
is visually less appealing.
So if we stick with our way, we need to be 100% on the secure side.

In more complex cases, both clients to some extent show inconsistentencies,
such as:
- the way precendence is handled in multi-formatting, with both browsers
showing inconsistencies (why don't we actually render */text/* both italics and
bold?)
- Thunderbird render /var/log/ in italics, and *foo*bar* in bold while we don't
- We render numeric-only expressions in bold/italics/whatever, while
Thunderbird doesn't
- We render *_foo* bold, but not /*foo* - while Thunderbird does it the other
way around.

Firstly, I'd propose to making an informed decision whether we want to keep on
removing the markup. If yes, then we need to be more careful about potentially
incorrect, potentially complex expressions.
In any case, multi-format rendering should be at least handled in a consistent
way, possibly multi-formatted with the exception of /*foo*/ (which is comment
markup), or - the other way around - ignoring multiple formatting altogether.

Seems to work very stable in kmail2 on KDE 4.9.3, plus ther haven't been crash
reports concerning this for a while. So this has obviously been fixed anyway.

The bug is still there (or again), in KDE 4.9.3, so please reopen!

At the same time, just the other way around, the Reset button should be
active only if any value has currently been changed and was not reverted or
applied.

This obviously isn't major bug, but neither it is nitpicking, as it gives
especially the unexperienced user feedback about the current state of the
dialog and about the risk of changing something unintendedly.

Same problem on a new German language Chakra 2012.10 install with KDE 4.9.2 (in
the meantime updated to 4.9.3).

The language is relevant, because kmail surprisingly created the following
folders in ~/.local/share/local-mail:
- Postausgang
- Posteingang
- .Posteingang.directory
- trash
- .trash.directory
- Versendete Nachrichten
A folder drafts (or Entwürfe) is missing.

Actually I don't think it's a good idea to use localized names for the standard
folders, at least not in the file system, but that might a different issue.

I can confirm this for KDE 4.9.3 on Chakra.

Seems to be a case of one bug covering others, because sometimes the folder
isn't even created on the IMAP server. But that will be easier to triage as
soon as this one here has been fixed.

[Bug 310625] New: Deleting account folder deranges folder list

2012-11-24 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310625

Bug ID: 310625
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Deleting account folder deranges folder list
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kmail2

In a configuration with two IMAP accounts (which is probably irrelevant):
When I removed an IMAP account folder from the folder list, it deranged the
whole folder list, vanishing all account folders (IMAP and local) except for an
unnamed item (turning out to be the other IMAP account) and a Notes item.
After a few clicks, the Notes item disappeared as well, leaving just the
unnamed item in the folder list (see screenshot 1).
Can be reproduced again and again with varying results (see screenshot 2).

Luckily, either of a restart or a switch between long and short folder list
will recreate the folder list correctly. But in the meantime, I died a thousand
deaths, fearing it might have deleted or corrupted my local (or even the other
IMAP) folder.

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 310628] New: Don't use arrow icons to show/hide details in the progress indicator

2012-11-24 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310628

Bug ID: 310628
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Don't use arrow icons to show/hide details in the
progress indicator
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: folders
   Product: kmail2

When synchronizing IMAP folders (probably POP as well, but I don't use that),
the progress indicator in the status bar displays an upward arrow.
Even if you know that the arrow is a details button, this is disturbing, as an
upward arrow is strongly associated with uploading resp. synchronizing up.
In some circumstances (e.g. after hitting other bugs making you nervous about
your data) this is even more disturbing: you know for sure that there is
nothing to synchronize upwards, so you're fearing that kmail/Akonadi might do
something with the data on your server that it shouldn't do.
Again, knowing doesn't help as our limbic system doesn't care.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
It would be expected that the arrow indicates whether currently data is being
synchronized up resp. synchronized down. The progress details button should use
a different icon. However, plus and minus wouldn't be better, as these are
associated with adding resp. deleting items.
The best approach I can come up is a magnifier icon on a snap-in / snap-out
button.

Kmail warns about the deletion of the content.

The OR said:
 1. There should be a simple prompt asking the user if he's sure...

So this seems to be fixed between 2005 and 2009, so should be RESOLVED FIXED
not WONTFIX.
(This might look like nitpicking, but incorrect WONTFIXes:
- irritate users searching for a similar bug, requiring them read more than
necessary
- understate the bugfixing efforts
And there are many incorrect WONTFIXES around!)

Screenshot showing the double trash in the choose collection config dialog

On my install there are just two local trash folders and they are only
displayed in kmails choose collection config dialog, not in the folder list. So
this might either be unconnected or the bug has been halfway fixed in the
meantime.

(aside: Interestingly, my inbox is called Posteingang in the file system, but
inbox both in Akonadi and kmail. Surely, this is because I installed in
German and later switched the application language to English for bug reporting
reasons. But I'm a bit surprised that the Akonadi console doesn't show the real
file system name. Plus, it's weird that the German file system name is
translated back to English.)

I can reproduce this in KDE 4.9.3 on Chakra, and would agree that the content
of this specific textfield in the config dialog should translate the chosen
folder to the kmails current application language as well, in order to be
consistent with all other places where it is displayed.

The fact that the other folders correctly appear as Posteingang (German for:
inbox) etc. isn't too surprising.
If you take a look at ~/.local/share/local-mail in the filesystem, you will
find that Posteingang etc. is indeed their real filesystem name (which is
controversial IMHO), while the Mülleimer (German for: trash) is called
trash in the filesystem.

@Elias: Creating a separate ticket for every bug, even if they might be
connected, is best. You can still comment stating: See also Bug #xxx.
Might they be connected?
This ensures the second aspect isn't buried and within a long list of comments
and finally forgotten. However, sometimes I don't pay regard to that either,
and in this case it might not be that important.

When trying to create a folder that already exists, the following error message
is displayed:
Could not create folder: Could not create collection foo resourceId: 12

This is not always that obvious as kmail might not be subscribing the folder,
so there should be an indication that a folder with this name already exists.
Could not create folder 'foo' because it already exists in [name of
resource/folder]. = OK

Ideally the user is informed of that fact that the folder is not displayed
because it is not subscribed, so the error message would ask something like:
Could not create folder 'foo' because it already exists in [name of
resource/folder]. Do you want to subscribe this folder? = [Yes] / [No]

After clicking [OK] In the first case, or [No] in the second case, the input
dialog underneath the error message shouldn't be closed, so the user can try
again rightaway.
When clicking [Yes] in the second case, the Manage local subscriptions dialog
should be opened instead, marking the line with the concerned folder.

Reproducible: Always

Marked Bug #310625 a duplicate of this, thereby confirming the bug.
The two issues are almost certainly the same, even though the other one is
about /deleting/ a folder in kmails folder list.

Account settings in Thunderbird

This is the way Thunderbird handles this: it leaves the decision to the
advanced user, with moving to trash as a default. And I think that this is the
best way handling this.

I use both clients on a regular basis, partly because marking as deleted is a
prerequisite for me on an IMAP account I share with my colleagues. Both clients
have their strengths and weaknesses, but this is a standard that Kontact really
needs to adopt IMHO.

Still valid for kmail2 in KDE 4.9.3 on Chakra.
Please move to kmail2 queue, component general.

Sorry you didn't receive a timely answer. We're just quite short on manpower.
The behaviour you observed was probably connected to disabled
auto-expunge/compact in the settings of the IMAP resource.
If the deleted mails reappeared greyed out, this is still the current
behaviour, partly but not completely on purpose, and then it would be nice if
you marked this one a duplicate of Bug #246257.
Thanks, and please give us another chance... :)
