Committed on 29/11/2012 at 08:46.
Pushed by mlaurent into branch 'master'.

Fix Bug 197597 - In KMail, message sorting does not work with

"Important" column
FIXED-IN: 4.10
But it will work directly with new user but when theme is already stored
we must clone theme and assign order to column.

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310852

Bug ID: 310852
  Severity: wishlist
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
   Summary: Better icons for "application/octet-stream"
attachments
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kmail2

Some programs (such as Lotus Notes) tend to attach files even of well-known
MIME types as "application/octet-stream".
kmail obviously manages to determine the MIME type of such a file by its
extension: it correctly associates the application for opening the file, and
when saving to the filesystem it changes the MIME type to "application/pdf",
"application/msword" or whatever.
So it would be really nice and should be no problem to display the specific
icon instead of just some default "?" icon.

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 310824] Improve "Outgoing accounts" list on config -> accounts -> sending

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310824

--- Comment #2 from Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf ---
Wow, that was fast again... :)

However, I'm not so sure about the 2nd part anymore, the username@server:port
column.
While for email gurus it might be absolutely clear, for average users it might
be confusing that username@server looks like an email address but is something
else.
The cases where it is completely different (such as
u15...@smtp.someprovider.com), are not my problem. But sometimes it will be
quite similar (such as mon...@smtp.kde.org). In these cases it will be very
confusing for newbies.
Therefore, we generally might not want to use this in the UI.

The solution would be two separate columns for username and for server:port,
with the additional advantage that the accounts can be sorted by server.
Another solution would be to start with just a server:port column which will be
just enough information in many cases.

I'd say they're duplicates, though obviously two different fixes have been

other one stopped people from reporting.
There's a great number of obviously similar tickets around, I might then
collect and close them as duplicates as well. But we should figure out which
one we want to take as the root ticket.

KnewsTicker is no longer maintained and was never fully ported to KDE SC 4 so I

Btw the proper way to implement this is to build an export function in the

I'm compiling KDE from the sources and it only happens that I'm doing that
using ArchLinux. I changed the qualification of the bug.

Having a test tool and seeing it reporting an error with database structure is
not very good for the user experience - please check this:
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=10139061

If there are no side-effects, then the test script is out of date and should be
fixed?

In the list of Outgoing accounts, the "(Default)" marker should be added to the
name, not the type, because it's not the default type but the default identity
(for an alternative, see also Bug #310823)

Also, it would be nice to have a column for username@server:port, because the
name might not be meaningful. (see also Bug: #310811)

[Bug 310823] New: Use boldface (and possibly an icon) for indicating defaults

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310823

Bug ID: 310823
  Severity: wishlist
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Use boldface (and possibly an icon) for indicating
defaults
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: UI
   Product: kmail2

On several places in the config dialog and otherwhere, there are listings that
include one default item. We usually append "(Default)".
For a number of reasons, I propose to use boldface (plus optionally a prepended
icon) instead:

1. the parenthezised appendix might add up to a name that already has a
parenthesized addition,
2. When changing the default, the column sizes don't adapt, so the appendix
gets hidden. (Of course we also could redraw)
3. It is simply less cluttered and still visually much more obvious which one
is the default.
4. Finally, it is visually also more appealing.

If we go for the icon, it might be a heart or a star (often used for "favorite"
which actually is a enough similar concept). But maybe someone has an even
better idea?
The icon should probably be appropriately tagged in order to make it compatible
with screen readers. But as I'm rather sceptic if kmail is barrier-free at all,
we should leave that detail for a future accessibility bugday, and shouldn't
make this argument block improvements.

Reproducible: Always

I confirm this for me too.
Configuration : ArchLinux
mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.5.28, for Linux (x86_64) using readline 5.1
KDE compiled from sources with kdesrc_build, up to date.

My setup was more than an year ago. Initially everything was OK with Akonadi
and never checked it again. Now that I plan to return to KMail I'm doing a
routine check of akonadi and found the mysql error when clicking the "test"
butonn on the akonadi server KCM.

I suppose the database structure has changed on the road and some scripts
should be updated.

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf

Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux

  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: commands and actions
   Product: kmail2

When opening the attachment properties dialog from the message viewer (e.g. in
read-only mode), it displays some minor quirks:
- "Encoding" is not displayed at all (making this issue a minor bug rather than
a wishlist)
- "Type" and "Encoding" are rendered as select box, even though they're not
changeable

Disabling the input widgets renders them hardly readable, even though that
would be the most intuitive solution. So the properties should probably all be
displayed as read-only textboxes, just like the "Name" already is.

I tested it on 4.9.3. The error is reproducible and I wonder why it ist still
unconfirmed.

The message is piped through the program but remains unchanged. Saveing the
message to as a file and piping the message through the program shows that it
is not a error of the program.

[Bug 310815] New: Warning that deleting an attachment is irreversible

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310815

Bug ID: 310815
  Severity: wishlist
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Warning that deleting an attachment is irreversible
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kmail2

When deleting an attachment, a confirmation dialog is shown warning that
"Deleting an attachment might invalidate any digital signature on this
message."
This is inappropriate and confusing on mails that aren't digitally signed at
all.
So the annoyed user will tend to switch the irrelevant warning off (checking
'Do not ask again').
This however means that there won't be a confirmation dialog at all, when
deleting attachments, even though this is an irreversible action.

Ideally, a digital signature should be discovered and the confirmation dialog
should emit an appropriate warning.

So if the message is digitally signed, the wording could be as follows:
"Do you really want to delete the %n selected attachment/s?
Once deleted, it/they cannot be restored.
Also, this might invalidate the digital signature of this message."

However, if the message is not digitally signed, the wording should be just:
"Do you really want to delete the %n selected attachment/s?
Once deleted, it/they cannot be restored."

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 310811] "Outgoing account" is no advanced feature of an identity

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310811

--- Comment #1 from Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf ---
Also, the select box shouldn't only show the display name, but additionally
user@mailserver, or just the mailserver if the SMTP server doesn't require a
login.
The name alone might not be meaningful enough, and as I said, it is often
crucial to choose the right outgoing server.

[Bug 310811] New: "Outgoing account" is no advanced feature of an identity

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310811

Bug ID: 310811
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: "Outgoing account" is no advanced feature of an
identity
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: config dialog
   Product: kmail2

The outgoing account isn't an advanced feature but a central feature of an
identity, so it needs to be moved to the "General" tab to avoid it being missed
when setting up a new identity.
While it might be preset to the default, the select box also shouldn't be
disabled for the same reasons. The checkbox can go away.

To avoid being abused by spammers, SMTP servers usually won't accept mails with
a "from" address that doesn't belong to the account. This might include aliases
but no completely different addresses.
Therefore, in most cases, "outgoing account" needs to be set to a correct when
creating a new identity.

I consider this a UI bug, because it will lead to configurations that simply
don't work and to irritated users that don't know what is wrong.

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 310810] New: Default identity not consistently marked "(default)"

Bug ID: 310810

Summary: Default identity not consistently marked "(default)"
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: config dialog
   Product: kmail2

As long as there is only a single identity, it is not marked "(default)".
Now, when I add a second identity, the default one is still not marked
"(default)".
Only after marking the second identity default, the marker is added and
retained even if later, the second identity is removed again and there is only
one identity left.

There are two alternatives to make this consistent:
1. Either the "(default)" marker is generally only shown if there is more than
one identity.
2. Or it is /always/ shown, don't matter whether there is a second identity.

I tend to the second option, but both are fine.

listview.

[Bug 310808] New: Add context menus for list entries

2012-11-28 Thread Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310808

Bug ID: 310808
  Severity: wishlist
   Version: 4.9.3
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Add context menus for list entries
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pancho...@riseup.net
  Hardware: Chakra
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: config dialog
   Product: kmail2

On the managing identities list, items have a context menu.
All others don't:
- Accounts -> Receiving
- Accounts -> Sending
- Appearance -> Colors
- Editor -> General -> Edit recent addresses
- Editor -> Subject
- Editor -> Charset
- Editor -> Headers
- Editor -> Attachments

If it is easy to add context menus without adding a lot of codelines (maybe
reusing a subset of the definition of buttons on the right-hand side), this
would be handy, even though redundant.
If not, then we should streamline the UI and remove the context menu of the
identity entries just as well.

Can't reproduce on KDE 4.9.3, neither on a local folder nor on an IMAP folder:
Renaming the parent folder doesn't affect sorting and threading settings of a
sub-folder.
Seems to be fixed, so I'd propose to close this issue.
