[Akonadi] [Bug 318584] New: IMAP Resource suddenly starts eating all memory (until killed)

2013-04-19 Thread Christian Mollekopf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318584

Bug ID: 318584
Summary: IMAP Resource suddenly starts eating all memory (until
killed)
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.10
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: er...@kde.org
  Reporter: mollek...@kolabsys.com
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

I recently had an imap resource get into a state, where it would just endlessly
accumulate memory. I finally killed it at 4GB, after which the problem did not
reappear. I attached a debugger and tried to figure out what's going on, but
didnt really figure out all that much, I'll attach a bunch of gathered
backtraces though (I simply attached the debugger, stopped the resource at
random points, and took a backtrace, not sure if it's of any use).
Unfortunately I couldn't figure out where all the memory was going (tell me if
you know how to figure that out without restarting the application).

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Can't reproduce the crash with a newly created user and configuring the same
owncloud dav resource. So something accumulates with the time that makes dav
resource crash.

Any hint where I can search for the culprit?

gpg2 is not the problem. But the lack of a separate config file by default is.
I would argue that the bug is in gpgconf (KWatchGnuPG does not touch the
configfile itself): It should not write options to configfiles which are later
read by programs not understanding these options. This problem is tracked
upstream as https://bugs.g10code.com/gnupg/issue1448 .

FYI: I'm running the 4.10 branch of kdepim-runtime since April, 11th (.. cloned

Taking previous error-occuring-rates* into account the bug is likely to be
fixed imho.

According to the Folder was indexed date in the Maintenance tab of folder
properties, my IMAP folders don't get indexed even though new emails come in
regularly.
Some were apparently indexed last a week ago (they receive new mails several
times a day), others last month.
After I click Fore reindexing, the current date is shown.

1. Right click on an IMAP folder which is indexed and updated regularly
2. Click Maintenance
3. Look at the Folder was last indexed date

attachment, I get a dialog that asks me to choose an application. I choose
Dragon Player and then ask kmail to remember the association. Then Dragon
Player opens the .wav file, as it should. If I close Dragon Player and again
click on the attachment, kmail2 remembers that Dragon Player is my chosen
association -- as it should.

But if I now close kmail2 and restart it, the association has been forgotten,
and I again have to go through the dialog to choose Dragon Player.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to open an attachment to an incoming message.
2. Choose an application and ask that the association be remembered.
3. Use the selected application to examine the attachment.
4. Open the attachment again. kmail2 now offers to use the selected
application to open the attachment.
5. Close and reopen kmail2.
6. Try again to open the attachment. kmail2 has forgotten the association.

Expected Results:
After the restart, kmail should remember the association and offer to use it.
