[kmail2] [Bug 330346] New: Multiple notifications etc if message is assigned to multiple IMap folders

2014-01-23 Thread Mike Krutov
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=330346

Bug ID: 330346
Summary: Multiple notifications etc if message is assigned to
multiple IMap folders
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.12
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: folders
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nekoxmach...@gmail.com

My mailbox on Gmail is set up on server-side to put some messages into
"Important" & "kde".
In case such a message arrives, multiple misbehaviours happen:
1) KMail Notification shows up with
"New message in Inbox"
"New message in Important"
"New message in KDE"

E.g. multiple times on same message.
--
2) When I read message in Inbox (or KDE or Important) other two directories do
not get updated message status, and display that message as unread till I
switch to that directory.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure your IMAP provider (not tested with non-gmail account) to deliver
message to multiple directories
2. Get such message
3. Read it in 1 directory
Actual Results:
step2 : multiple notifications appear (each notification is duplicated)
step3: when I read the message, it updates its status only in 1 directory.
Amount of read messages in other directories is not updated.
When I switch to other directory in UI, for about a second or two message stays
bluish (unread) and then changes it status to read.

Expected Results:
step2: 1 notification for each unique message
step3: simultaneous updates on unique messages for each directory they are
present in.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

kmail (4.11.3) on KDE Platform 4.11.3 using Qt 4.8.4

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Using other applications in other virtual desktop. I guess an automatic email
download was triggered or something.

- Custom settings of the application:

I have IMAP accounts without periodic download (ie: imap push enabled). I'm
also using 3D effects in the desktop, which means that due to the composition
all the apps paint themselves even if they are not shown in the current virtual
desktop. I have plain text view enabled (no HTML view by default).

I (temporarily) "fixed" this problem using a small trick.

KMail2 doesn't like it when you are too hasty, e.g. when deleting mail. In my
case this seemed to be the reason for this error, I just clicked the "Move to
Trash" button to quickly.

Now I just started kmail by hand, watching cout/cerr while I tried to select
the message causing this error and going the resource offline. This gave me
some output like:

akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource_0(18748)/akonadiresource (maildir): Failed to
read item "1390374044.R143.." in Maildir "/home/.../Mail/inbox"

I just changed to my inbox in my mail folder and searched this entry. And of
cource I couldn't find it. So I searched for other entries looking similar,
some that do not end in ",S" or ",RS", and I found them under new/.

Now I just copied one of the existing files and recreated the missing file
again.

After restarting kmail I again selected the bad message, and it appeared. Of
cource with the wrong content, but I didn't really care, because I deleted it
before.

After that "fix" I detected, that the missing message was already in the trash
folder. Where else could it be?!

Still occurs in KDE 4.12.1 (Gentoo)...

I've just deleted my ~/.local/share/akonadi as mentionned in a comment above.
I'll see in the next days if it changes something...

I have also delayed the Kmail startup as the problem occurs often when the
whole KDE session is restored (in this case, the net connection can be
overloaded and emails download can be slow...).
