Summary: Column in embedded mysqld can not be null
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Migration

Starting kontact brings up a grayed out background for kmail. Indicating that
Akonadi is not running. Pressing the Start button attempts to do an upgrade of
the Database. It errors out and stops.

When I try to start akonadi manually I get the following:

DATABASE ERROR:

DB error: "Column 'name' cannot be null"
Error text: "Column 'name' cannot be null QMYSQL3: Unable to execute statement"
Query: "INSERT INTO PartTypeTable (ns, name) VALUES (:0, :1)"

A quick look into the sources show that the MBOX resource specific code does
not call reloadFile(). The iCal resource, for example, does that in

[kaddressbook] [Bug 331852] New: kaddressbook "Template not found, contact.htmlTemplate not found, contact_embedded.html"

2014-03-07 Thread kolAflash
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331852

Bug ID: 331852
Summary: kaddressbook "Template not found, contact.htmlTemplate
not found, contact_embedded.html"
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: 4.11.5
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: kolafl...@kolahilft.de
CC: to...@kde.org

kaddressbook shows the error

Template not found, contact.htmlTemplate not found, contact_embedded.html

in the right contact-preview pane (in two and three columns mode) instead of
the contacts details. There are any further details why this happens.

Via strace I found out, that kaddressbook looks for the mentioned files in

~/.kde4/share/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates/

After deleting that directory, the preview pane works fine again. Don't know
why the directory was existing in the first place.

For any less experienced user this might be an unresolvable problem. And also
me it had cost some time. Please fix!

Either apply user-defined templates only if the html-file really exists (and
not just the directory). Of put more details on how to resolve the problem into
the error message shown by kaddressbook

Dan, I don´t seem to see this anymore with KMail 4.12.2 and Akonadi 1.11.0 –
Akonadi still isn´t exactly very responsive while doing stuff in the background
(see bug #331848), but that ItemRetrieverException does not seem to appear
anymore:

martin@merkaba:~> ls -lh .xsession-errors
-rw--- 1 martin martin 1,5M Mär 7 14:19 .xsession-errors
martin@merkaba:~> grep -i "Did not receive a reply" .xsession-errors
martin@merkaba:~#1> grep -i "ItemRetrieverException" .xsession-errors

Thus closing. Luisfe, if you still see it, please reopen. Thanks, Martn

With KDE SC 4.12.0 and Akonadi 1.11.0 I still see that mails cannot be moved
during filtering operations. Due to bug #319226 I do not use local CRM114 spam
filtering yet, thus let all mails flow into a special "_Posteingang"
("_incoming") folder, delete the spams manuelly, and then press Ctrl-A, Ctrl-J

Thanks, Martin. Confirmed. I also still see this in KDE SC 4.12.2. Also setting
bug report to confirmed now.

I don´t think that has been my problem. Cause I do not see any localized or
duplicate folder names.

The data loss issue I could reproduce so far is

[Akonadi] [Bug 319226] New: produces 1-byte-sized files on failed move attempts
while filtering

This I didn´t see this one again, I think its good too close it. If you still
see localized folder names for default folders please open a separate bug
report for this one.

Now closing this one. Thanks, Martin

It still appears with KDE SC 4.12.2 and Akonadi 1.11.0 that KMail does not
respond timely to user actions like marking or moving mails. Especially if
Akonadi is doing some background maintenance (see bug #331848), but it will
just update it after some time, I did not have to restart KMail for this since
a long time.

Thus closing.

[Akonadi] [Bug 322199] akonadi_imap spams perdition log when two clients are active and gets restarted all the time

2014-03-07 Thread Martin Steigerwald
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322199

I am currently using a KMail from SC 4.12.2 with Akonadi 1.11.0 via Perdition
and do not see that issue anymore. But I have the other KMail directly
connected to the IMAP server, not via Perdition. And well Zimbra was replaced
with Exchange.

Anyway, I do not see any reconnection loops anymore and thus for me the problem
is gone. Rainer, maybe it is fixed for you as well?

[kmail2] [Bug 331848] New: displaying, moving, deleting mails takes 10-20 seconds when Akonadi synchronizes in background

2014-03-07 Thread Martin Steigerwald
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331848

Bug ID: 331848
Summary: displaying, moving, deleting mails takes 10-20 seconds
 when Akonadi synchronizes in background
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.12.2
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: message list
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@teamix.de

This is no duplicate of

Bug 327017 - Message takes over 1 minute or 2 to show up due to Kmail syncing
folders.

as I checked in Akonadiconsole that there are no duplicate folders for Local
Folders.

This is with a clustered Exchange server. I also tested with Icedove 23.1 and
there switching between mails in a folder is almost instant.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have large IMAP account (I think it doesn´t matter if its on Exchange or
not, but I am not sure).
2. Access a folder with quite some mails (I tested with btrfs-ml which has
about 13500 unread mails).
3. Switch between mails by clicking on them or with cursor keys.

Actual Results:
Displaying the mail takes 10-20 seconds during which "Receiving folder contents
is displayed" (translated from german).

Expected Results:
The mail is displayed almost instantly (as long as the IMAP server does respond
in time). It does so while there Akonadi does not synchronize folders here.

I use the following workaround: Cause synchronizing through the huge lot of the
mail folders takes quite long, I raised regular sync interval from 15 to 30
minutes. So at least during some time I have faster access times.

I think I remember having read once that Akonadi is at some point
single-threaded, i.e. can only do one task at a time. If this is the case I
think it should at least pause any background tasks *immediately* on user
input. Better yet, I think, is to support more than one task being processed at
a time and supporting some kind of priority in scheduling them, so that
background tasks can be set to lower priority.

Currently this is a major issue in usability of KMail. I revert to Outlook Web
Access or Icedove in case KMail is unresponsive, which with 15 minutes sync
interval was quite often. I as a user just don´t like to wait for Akonadi
getting to process my interactive request.

Its not only with displaying mails, but also moving some or deleting some. With
modifying operations it takes KMail even longer. Up to minutes. Also if KMail
synchronizes a large folder it takes longer as well for it to respond even to
requests to display a mail.

Here this is with IMAP. I also see it on POP3 accounts with deleting mails
directly after having told it to get receive new mails to me and sometimes also
on other occastions.

Maybe this just happens with really large mailboxes with lots of folders and up
to tens of thousands of mails in some of them. For the IMAP account I already
disabled subscription of linux-kernel-ml folder due to having more than 40
unread mails in them.

Still there is a MySQL database, and all Akonadi has to do is request the item
I clicked on from the IMAP server. IMHO its not supposed to take that long and
IMHO it has to do with internal scheduling in Akonadi.

This is on a ThinkPad T520 with Sandybridge 2,5 GHz Dualcore and dual SSD BTRFS
RAID 1. So the machine is really quite fast. The Exchange cluster is hosted
within our ESX enviromnent and usually responds really fast in Outlook Web
Access and Icedove. I think it has quite fast backing hardware as well.

[Akonadi] [Bug 331845] New: Remote (sftp) mbox resource is not updated

2014-03-07 Thread Michael Schuerig
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331845

Bug ID: 331845
Summary: Remote (sftp) mbox resource is not updated
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.11
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: MBox Resource
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: mich...@schuerig.de

I have created an mbox-based account in KMail which is not updated, either on
an interval sync or a manual update. No matter whether I try it in KMail or
Akonadi Console. The only way to force a reload is to change the configuration,
eg toggle the Read-Only option.

Reproducible: Always

Kevin Krammer has looked into this already, see
https://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2014/03/msg8.html for his tentative
diagnosis.
