[kmail2] [Bug 335113] New: kmail crashes when searching in quick filter

2014-05-20 Thread Simon Hausmann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335113

Bug ID: 335113
Summary: kmail crashes when searching in quick filter
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.13.0
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: search
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: hausm...@kde.org
CC: m...@vhanda.in

In kmail's debug output I see the following:

""
Qt has caught an exception thrown from an event handler. Throwing
exceptions from an event handler is not supported in Qt. You must
reimplement QApplication::notify() and catch all exceptions there.

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
  what():  basic_string::_S_construct null not valid
""

The backtrace at that point naturally doesn't give anything away. I noticed
however on akonadi startup the following also:

""
akonadi_baloo_indexer(16245): Failed to create email indexer: "Error opening
table `/home/shausman/.local/share/baloo/email//record.':

/home/shausman/.local/share/baloo/email//record.baseB
""

as well as

""
Executing search "kmail2-869657646-SearchSession"
akonadiserver(16196): Xapian Database does not exist at
"/home/shausman/.local/share/baloo/email/"
Search done "kmail2-869657646-SearchSession" (without remote search)

""

In order to get something more useful from gdb I did a "catch throw" to find
out where the exception was throw. The first throw was here, where it looks
like it can't open that database:

Confirmed for seeing only recurring events, and next 00.00. KDE Kontact 4.13.1
I'm a Linux noob on Kubuntu. How do I apply the patch?

IMAP-Resource: Fixed stuck BatchFetcher

The continuation request can be delivered while a fetch job is in progress
if we deliver too many messages (which is likely with the uid based fetches
where we can't predict the exact amount of fetched messages). In this
case we need to remember the continuation request, and automatically proceed.

This causes m_fetchedItemsInCurrentBatch to be off by the messages we delivered
too many, but that's not a problem as it means we just deliver too many
messages
during every batch.

[Akonadi] [Bug 334218] synchronizations of large folders with filesystem contents hogs a Sandybridge core for minutes

2014-05-20 Thread Christian Mollekopf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334218

Git commit 81f30e18c975f9cc44da7c904ed612df804200da by Christian Mollekopf, on
behalf of Martin Steigerwald.
Committed on 03/05/2014 at 14:53.
Pushed by cmollekopf into branch 'kolab/integration/4.13.0'.

Also do not sort directory entries in listCurrent and listNew in key cache:

QDir sorts the list of directory entries unless specified otherwise.
The last commit already disabled the sorting in maildir.cpp.

This commit completes the work and makes the remaining sorting calls
in the callgrind dumps at

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334218#c7

go away completely as demonstrated in the callgrind dumps at:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334218#c12

Subjectively this has a huge impact on the performance of KMail with huge
maildir. KMail hardly blocks anymore on folder changes and feels much more
responsive now.

Akonadi maildir resource went from hogging a Sandy Bridge core for minutes
to not appearing using 100% of one core in even one averaged 10 second
interval in atop. I hardly see it in atop at all anymore, except when
accessing very large folders such as one with Linux Kernel mailing list
and more than 245000 unread mails.

Thanks to Sergio for pointing out the remaining sorting calls in the second
callgrind dump and for help.

Now the bottleneck appears to be MaildirResource::listRecursive but I do
not know whether further optimization is necessary at this point.

Both changes tested with kdepimlibs master as of today and KMail 4.12.4
from Debian unstable packages with an enormous maildir including a
folder for Linux Kernel mailing list with more than 245000 unread mails.

Do not sort the directory entry list in listNew() and listCurrent():

According to callgrind dumps at

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334218#c4

QDir sorts the list of directory entries unless specified otherwise.

After disabling the sorting the callgrind is quite different already:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334218#c7

This already helps shortening the time to synchronize folders visibly,
but KMail gets still blocked for half a minute or more. There is another
occurence of QDir entry sorting in keycache.cpp which the next commit
will address.

Thanks to Sergio and David for help and pointing out how to disable
the sorting.

IMAP-Resource: Check available UID's first & retrieve 50 time more flags.

This way we avoid the UID fragmentation problem (we try to fetch a lot of
messages that are not available on the server).
It's also a nice first step towards only syncing a certain time-frame.

Retrieving 50 times more flags than full messages should still result in
low memory consumption while greatly reducing roundtrips.

[Akonadi] [Bug 335091] New: Akonadiconsole hangs when using the debugger for a longer time

2014-05-20 Thread Till Schäfer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335091

Bug ID: 335091
Summary: Akonadiconsole hangs when using the debugger for a
longer time
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.13
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: akonadiconsole
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: till2.schae...@uni-dortmund.de

Seems that the debugger creates so much content, that the akonadiconsole hangs
after some time.
When the debugger is active, it slowly becomes unresponsive and after a while
the application can only be exited by killing the process.

Since the debugger remembers its stat (enabled / disabled) it is very often
that i forgot to turn the debugger of before exiting and i face this issue in
the next akonadiconsole session.

Reproducible: Always

[Akonadi] [Bug 335090] New: Akonadi Dav Resource: Unexpected Error 401 after server downtime.

2014-05-20 Thread Till Schäfer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335090

Bug ID: 335090
Summary: Akonadi Dav Resource: Unexpected Error 401 after
server downtime.
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.13
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: DAV Resource
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: till2.schae...@uni-dortmund.de

I use the dav resource together with a davical installation. Sometimes the dav
agent in akonadi get into a broken state.

Status: Offline, Broken
Status Message: Bei der Abfrage ist ein Problem aufgetreten. Der Eintrag wurde
auf dem Server nicht verändert
Bei der Aktion
„https://davical.wg-ka.net:44301/mycalendar/caldav.php/till/home/8eaa161e-8a5a-4880-b68c-d2d9ec21ab9b.ics
hochladen“ ist der unerwartete Fehler 401 aufgetreten. (401).

Translated to English this is something like:
There was an error during a request. The entry was not modified on the server.
During the action "upload " an unexpected Error 401 occurred. (401)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create a dav resource to a caldav server (i am using davical)
2. sync the collection
3. make the server unavailable
4. add some events to the calendar or add some tasks
5. make the server available again
6 synchronize your collection
Actual Results:
the dav resource is in a broken state and never recovers.
All Events that are added after this downtime, are also not synchronized
Only deleting the akonadi cache helps. However, this deletes all entries that
where added / modified during the server downtime.

Expected Results:
resource sees that the server is there again and synchronizes the events.

The worst thing about this, that it fails silently in KOrganizer. Sometimes i
notice this after several days. In the mean time i have modified added a dozens
of events. It is very time consuming to pick the modifications from akonadi
console and re-add them after clearing the cache.

I am using 4.13.1, but it was not selectable as a version in the tracker.

[kontact] [Bug 334016] After change to baloo, regression, summary does not show the upcoming birthdays any more

2014-05-20 Thread stakanov

I confirm that also normal events of the calendar are not listed in the summary
(like dentist appointments, etc..). So this seems to be a bug that also hits
the normal event function of the calendar. Thank you.

[Akonadi] [Bug 335077] New: akonadi flooding errormessages

2014-05-20 Thread tony den haan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335077

Bug ID: 335077
   Summary: akonadi flooding errormessages
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.13
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: chrig...@fastmail.fm
  Reporter: kdeb...@tuxick.net
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

Whenever i boot my system, akonadi floods my screen with messages about
"mailbox doesn't exist", messages fly by so fast and are so numerous that's all
i can say about it. My guess is that it's having some problem connecting to
IMAP server. This flooding error messages has been an issue for years now, and
it made me actually stop using kmail because it's extremely annoying.

Reproducible: Always

I'm still seeing the "same" crash with 4.13 final packages from kubuntu 14.04.
However I have baloo installed and instead of "terminate called after throwing
an instance of 'Xapian::DatabaseOpeningError'" on the terminal, I do see

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
  what():  basic_string::_S_construct null not valid

Any ideas what that could be?

IDLE is only used on the INBOX, and the interval is used for all folders. The
interval is working AFAIK, and IDLE is supposed to pick up flag changes and new
mail for INBOX only.
